Is this our Gatsby friend of the bookstore from last year (or was it earlier this year)?

There's a lot going on here but if he's trying to hang onto summer with this colour and emblem usage, then he's winning.

wheeeeeeeeee! this is a good fun look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

He looks so happy that I find it silly to comment his outfit which is a bit this and that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

Love the colours.
This fellow, though dashing, does exhibit one of the difficulties with looking cool whilst wearing a cross-shoulder bag: the Shirt Ride-Up.
Any thoughts on how to avoid that without having to tuck in? I love the utility of my bag, but don't feel particularly suave tugging at my hem as I walk.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 AM) :

j crew?

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (10:21 AM) :

Nice look!

But he should wear sneakers with that outfit. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

i see this guy all over the west village - who is he? he always is perfectly put-together and looks as if he is going to or just came from somewhere i want to be.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:23 AM) :

particularly like the belt, not feeling the shoes - they seem a bit out of season w/ the white shorts? they should be more for a transitional look perhaps?

Blogger Susanna said ... (10:49 AM) :

This is the first time I've actually liked those silly embroidered pants in an outfit. Chopping them off at the knees shows a sort of subversive disregard for their precious preppiness.

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (11:02 AM) :

of course it's the one day he isn't wearing his Rafe bag but I love the orange Buddhist bag anyway and love it against the yellow. always love mixing a little bit of East with a litte bit of West.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:03 AM) :

I think that this shows the importance of an accessory on a guy (usually forgotten)- take another look and imagine him without the orange bag and its quite J.Crew( oh hum) the bag gives the look the punch.

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (11:06 AM) :

Nice! I had a smaller sized similar bag from Adidas-same color and style!
I love the orange+yellow combination, yet I'm not that crazy about the pattern on his shorts. The shoes also seem mismatched - sneakers or sandals should be so much better suited to this fun color combination!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 AM) :

"But he should wear sneakers with that outfit."

he's not playing tennis or basketball, so i there is no need for sneakers... ick.

I too have seen him all over the west village and madison avenue. I think he owns some jewelry empire.

Blogger Butch said ... (11:32 AM) :

This is great! Love the idea of hand-shortening WASPy patterned trousers (at least, that's what I think he's done); and the bag, shoes and color combos....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:01 PM) :

i totally agree with the ppl who think the shoes are off. i too was expecting sneakers. other than that, i love it. the things on his pants are little tennis rackets, right? weird :)

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (12:14 PM) :

I love this look! Very nice colours. The tennis racket print cut-offs and dirty bucks (worn w/o socks) are a nice touch. The shirt is very yellow. This guy has a great haircut! I can't find any fault with this look. But, what is that odd orange thing around his shoulder? Is that a man-bag? Say it ain't so.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 PM) :

I like the look and he just looks so happy it's hard to resist. The shoes aren't right though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:44 PM) :

jcrew will be proud...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:02 PM) :

i know those shorts: purple label!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 PM) :

He looks like fresh produce!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:41 PM) :

Isn't this the fantastic Ward? Always so well turned out, always so dreamy.

(And if you ask me, the shoes are perfect.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:10 PM) :

He is the epitome of summer. And J Crew is always good!
SMJ

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 PM) :

I don't think there's anything wrong with the style of his shoes...it's the color of them. The taupy grayish color of the shoes is throwing off the warm shades of orange and yellow in his summer outfit. Otherwise, a very happy combo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:12 PM) :

Unfortunately you all have been fooled! This is NOT J Crew it is Ralph Lauren! (Purple Label and Blue Label)

Tisk Tisk J Crew for once again knocking off RL's classic style...has anyone seen the horse belt or patched wool jacket for fall?!

not to mention, by looking at him and his past outfits on the Sartorialist clearly he does not mess around by wearing trickle down fashion :)

Blogger Victor Castro said ... (4:57 PM) :

Jack Daniel: I'm sure Mr. Thom Browne would desagree with you on the sneakers.

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:55 PM) :

I'm lovin' it!

Blogger Jessica Quirk said ... (6:07 PM) :

I like that his hem is frayed, although I would say this is pretty standard for the EH crowd on the main drag

Blogger Anastasia said ... (6:40 PM) :

a little ray of sunshine....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:28 PM) :

This really is a great outfit for careless summer days. If only bag was in some different color or at least in pale version of orange. Call me too conventional but I just can't find any good reason for orange to be a part of wardrobe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:44 PM) :

Love the pictures of the Hamptons. When I was a child I use to spend my summers in Southampton. (mid 50's - mid 60's) My grandmother had a beautiful home on Hill Street. The house was sold early 70's. Southampton was so quiet then, not like the crowds today. Remember riding to beach with my cousins on our bikes and then swimming in a neighbors pool afterwards. (I miss my childhood!) Great memories!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:23 PM) :

i'm a little disappointed that my fellow sart. readers automatically assume J.Crew...not the original R.L...quite sad.

looking cute W :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:07 PM) :

Another reason why I am missing Summer way down here in Oz!

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (11:14 PM) :

I love the colors and everything about his look. He perfected the style of summering in the Hamptons.

Gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 PM) :

He needs the blue slip-ons the older gent was wearing a few pics back.

Blogger Blaise said ... (11:55 PM) :

That's a very nice yellow and orange..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:18 AM) :

Aw. Cutie!

The only thing that would improve this look is an ice-cream cone.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 AM) :

fabulous is as fabulous does....and never with sneakers unless they have a game to go to...this man does not have a "game" he is the game.

Blogger Pinoy Boy Journals said ... (4:58 AM) :

hi, new here. i think the outfit is cute. men should start wearing more color. there's a world of color out there other than blue, brown, black, blue, blue, blue. hehe :)

Blogger DJ FunkyGrrL said ... (6:10 AM) :

The look reminds me of something I would see on a college campus, especially in California. I'm not so thrilled with the color scheme of orangs bag with a yellow shirt. It's definitely a summertime look. Overall for someone under 30 with a laid back personality it's a cool casual look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 AM) :

d shorts r j crew
i like d grey blue ones better
deyd look better wid d
yellow polo
nice tho!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:01 AM) :

love the small pilots, the whole outfit reminds me how much i love american mens' fashion

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:10 AM) :

I think Anonymous who just clarified which brands this guy is wearing is the guy on the photo. Thanks for telling us you don't wear J.Crew, that would be too common for you. Unfortunately, it does look like J.Crew, not that that is a bad thing. Not everyone can afford "Purple Label".

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:51 AM) :

give it a rest label snobs. No matter what it is it looks good.

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (9:51 AM) :

This guy looks great! And who cares what labels he's wearing?!! Why would anyone be a snob about Polo RL or J Crew? Polo and J Crew are both derived from the classic WASP/preppy look. They're both knock-offs. And there's nothing wrong with that. If you want the real thing, check out J Press.

Blogger Pargolo said ... (10:30 AM) :

i love the shoes - dirty bucks - as a preppy s**tbag, I can recognize them a mile off. They go perfectly with the outfit - this is a classic example of sprezzatura!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:17 AM) :

just giving correct recognition where need be...

true, what makes the look good is the personal touches and ability to mix NOT what specific label is being worn.

p.s
as much as i'd like to take credit, i'm not mr. east hampton...

Blogger Carlene said ... (12:53 PM) :

Ward, right? He belongs on that best-dressed list of yours, too. I don't even care what he's wearing, green label, purple label, he looks fabulous. I am astounded that people find fault (same with the girl in the white dress). And I need that orange bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:37 PM) :

Sexy, casual. I like a nice fray

But what I like most is that he looks like he's comfortable with himself.

Nothing sexier than that...

Blogger Bel said ... (5:50 AM) :

Well isn't HE just a ray of glorious sunshine!!!!!!!! Makes me smile :o)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:49 PM) :

McDreamy? McSteamy? Who cares? I'll take Peter Prepster anytime! It's always the cleancut guys who are the most fun!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:44 AM) :

i've waltzed with this man at the opera in paris. we've tipped our hats on madison avenue. we've tortured taxi drivers in barbados, we've sailed the virgin islands and bosphorus together and we've dreamed big at the mark. so where he gets his inimitable style? take one guess...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 PM) :

Victoria,

Style/fun/adventure/sillyness do go hand in hand. Wonderful, that lots of it has been with you. You're the best. Thanks!

Flattery will get you everywhere.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 PM) :

true style is prefaced by the word "life"....wherever you go you own the look that you are living. this guy is owning it. would love to see what he wears on a rainy day - i am sure it include the perfect umbrella.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 AM) :

It's hilarious that J Crew is being criticized for stealing from the 'original' Mr. Lauren. Lauren does wonderful things, but he is nothing if not derivative. Whether it's J Press, Brooks Brothers or Savile Row, Lauren got all of his good ideas from them. That's not to knock RL, but he did not invent the Hamptons look.

Blogger Rich said ... (2:53 PM) :

love it. so often see guys trying to achieve this relaxed feel with summer looks, and missing. imho, it's because he's wearing the shoes that "don't go" - they're probably more comfortable.
