great

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 AM) :

Im not really feeling the dress, love the shoes but not in this combination. She is a stunning girl though so she can work it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:35 AM) :

gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

Wow she's gorgeous! I think she model's for the jcrew catalog. Love her dress, perfect for this extra hot nyc weather.

Blogger angvou said ... (10:41 AM) :

She's tall, pretty, well groomed. I like the lemony accessories. It all works-- but somehow... I'm stifling a yawn.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (10:46 AM) :

Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful?

A beautiful start to a hot day.

Blogger will anderson said ... (10:53 AM) :

GOOD GOD, SART!

there is a lot of that kind of dress shoe combination around, but it rarely looks as nice as this. partly because it almost takes that kind of frame to keep it from looking...less attractive. but then again, this girl could put on anything and make it work.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:56 AM) :

This woman is a goddess....from waist north. What is it with the proportions in the lower part of the pic that bothers me?

If I saw her on the street I'm quite sure I couldn't help staring at her, she is so...goddess. She has the most beautiful face and its been a while since I saw someone that looked this chic and classy with aviators. IMO usually aviators look just funny.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

she looks perfect

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

Yea she is a model for Jcrew. Also a mom.
A hot Mom.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 AM) :

she's beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:25 AM) :

Yes, very lovely & all that... But I have to totally agree w/ Angela...it's boring. There's no personality, no real style..It's precisely these kinds of models (she surely is a model) in fashion magazines who stifle our creativity. Don't get me wrong, she's beautiful obviously...But I prefer the not-so-obvious myself.

Blogger ricpic said ... (11:29 AM) :

Is the empire waist "in" this year? Just yesterday there was a pic showing a young woman in a high waisted outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 AM) :

I dont like she shoes with that dress but yes gorgeous so whatever looks good!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 AM) :

the best summer dress I've seen in some time.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:44 AM) :

she could wear a garbage bag and look good...

Blogger designerman said ... (11:50 AM) :

WOW! Just WOW!!

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (11:55 AM) :

For Anon 11:25am
How could she stifle your creativity?

That sounds more like an excuse to me

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 PM) :

angela/anoymous - i concur. they're all fabulous elements and work well together, but there's no pop. is it because it's TOO coordinated?? her beauty definitely outshines the outfit.

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (12:47 PM) :

so fresh and summery. love the big bag of course and the wrap around espadrilles. muy caliente!

Blogger christinaooi said ... (1:02 PM) :

I think it's more the body than the outfit...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:18 PM) :

Beautiful models stifle creativity? That's a new one I've never heard before. I feel rather the opposite - that beauty inspires - and sometimes inspires too much! Which is the entire point of the fashion business, really.

Versions of this halter-empire-scarf dress are in every high street shop at every price point(I believe The Sartorialist snapped a mirthsome young lady months ago wearing a blue one with unfortunate mukluks).

This dress looks horrible on any body not built like a mannequin. It exposes so much of the upper body and yet adds visual bulk at the belly and hip, while exposing the legs to well above the knee. It's also long, and because of the handkerchief hemline, it cannot be shortened easily (I have seen petite young ladies wearing similar dresses literally dragging the ground). And the the final insult - the semi-sheer silk or silk-like fabric clings like a second skin in movement or in the slightest breeze. For the average woman it would be hard to conceive a less flattering dress.

Women see these looks on the Bundchenesque figures of magazines pages and suppose that the dress has some magical ability to flatter them in the same way. Not so, I'm afraid. Contrary to popular belief, clothes cannot *make* a person look taller, thinner, etc.; clothing can only cover or expose, in a flattering or unflattering way, whatever physique the person actually possesses.

This woman looks great in the dress because she is tall, has a modest bust and toned upper body, slender waist and hips, and extra-long shapely legs. The dress is not giving her those attributes, only exposing them.

Blogger Kari said ... (1:47 PM) :

Makes me wish it could be summer forever.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:59 PM) :

i think what makes this shot so strong isn't the outfit, it's her confidence. it's obvious that she would look good in anything she wears.

Blogger Who's That Fashionista? said ... (2:29 PM) :

She is beautiful and I love her shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

Seldom have I seen Sart showing a picture like this. The lady is just perfect. She has the perfect outfit for the climate and there is no hesitating in her posture. If she is a professional model she has done her homework well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:45 PM) :

I hate living in NYC. How can I leave the house when there are girls this beautiful walking around. I just hope I never find myself standing next to her at an intersection (looking like a potato in her shadow no doubt).

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (2:57 PM) :

Gee whiz: perfect in every way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:03 PM) :

Beauty is never boring to me and that is one classically beautiful, lissome girl. I agree that she could wear anything and it would work.

Blogger Jennifer said ... (3:16 PM) :

she picked an outfit that really flatters her body. she makes it look like she is a very tall skinny person - she is surely tall and she is in great shape, but her top half is far more slender than her bottom half. this dress shows off her top half, camouflages the bottom half, and the shoes turn her into a skyscraper.
she has style - it's called summer femme light (as in floaty, not "lite" as in insubstantial).
and i have to say, i do also find it totally underwhelming.

Blogger Krizia said ... (3:20 PM) :

her ensemble matches the background so nicely :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 PM) :

i love how it looks like she hardly worked to look that beautiful

not only does she look great wearing it but on a day like today i am sure she felt comfortable.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (4:39 PM) :

She is beautiful, so is her dress and her shoes! Great shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

I don't know if this was taken today or yesterday, but it doesn't really matter - NY has been hot and stifling both days. This (beautiful) woman looks like a breath of fresh air. An urban fairy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 PM) :

If I had this dress hanging in my closet I'd take it down to my tailor and ask him to cut it off above the knee. I can't stand handkerchief hemlines, they make an otherwise gorgeous dress look cheap. Snaps to the print though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:07 PM) :

I've seen this girl in the J.Crew catalog for years and think she is one of the most stunning models ever. She'll never be a supermodel -- frankly, she's too classically beautiful for that -- but she's who I envy. Even if I'm not really envying those shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:36 PM) :

That looks like a Maori design on the border of that dress - very nice - go New Zealand!

Blogger thwany said ... (5:43 PM) :

wow

Blogger Ryfka said ... (6:27 PM) :

She is a perfection!

Blogger Directorial said ... (6:46 PM) :

This is one of those stop-traffic lookers. She is so beautiful she could wear almost anything and get people to stop and stare.

Blogger Lisa said ... (6:58 PM) :

Sigh, another skinny girl who looks great in clothes. I could almost believe that you think females have to be skinny to be fashionable.

Blogger DK said ... (9:05 PM) :

I think I speak for all men here when I say, I don't give a damn how tall or skinny she is. Not boring to me at all. She's fine.

Blogger Blaise said ... (10:09 PM) :

I like the shade of the yellow of her wedge.. It's so clean and summer-y..

Blogger simplyolive said ... (10:19 PM) :

she's gorgeous!!
she must be a model...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:38 PM) :

My gosh she's beautiful! Well done

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:41 AM) :

she is amazingly hot... and such perfect skin... one of the hottest people ever you've had on the sartorialist
she looks like a supermodel

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:47 AM) :

I generally don't like this kind of dress with the handkerchief hem, but she looks fantastic in it. I guess it's as another poster said: very few people can make that type of dress work.
She's definitely from another planet --the one populated by perfectly beautifully people.

Blogger Michael said ... (3:55 AM) :

She's very pretty!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 AM) :

Yikes, I don't think this lady deserves the negativity. She's a lovely looking woman, deal with it. And I don't think an insult of 'skinny' is very appropriate. She is slender and perfectly healthy, not skinny.

I wouldn't call her look boring at all. Her dress is interesting, love the bag color and her sunglasses perfectly suit her face.

The straps and bust line look wonderful on her figure and I like the print.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 AM) :

I lov her and I LOVE the dress. So beautiful!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 AM) :

she looks delicious!

Blogger MARIA H said ... (8:38 AM) :

Model,mmmmmm.
Does being tall, skinny, and totally young makes you stylish?...Nope.

She looks polished and very natural at once, but that is what the aforementioned elements bring to the style table. Not an exercise on style, more like just going with your birth suit for a stroll...easy when you are an exceptional beauty, but of course nothing that you can build...Controversial for how easy it is.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 AM) :

wow!!! there's not much else to say.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

isn't that the girl from the J. Crew catalogues? she's beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 AM) :

Polish and groove... just like New York.

Blogger londondog said ... (11:59 AM) :

She looks a fair bit like Jessica Alba, non?

She is a beautiful girl and as such looks fresh, pretty and alluring but I would go for a maxi length on that dress rather than the asymmetrical hem. It slightly spoils the picture.

Otherwise - lovely. Aviators are always a winner ;-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 PM) :

wow, she looks like a model

Blogger Le Raconteur said ... (12:12 PM) :

Is she not STUNNING?? Another wonderfully stylish find, sir. Kudos.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

Gorgeous woman, looks fantastic.

I think the bag's a bit too large and I'm not sure about that shoe color. Not that I want "matchy-matchy", but this color seems to clash.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 AM) :

if you plan to teach a child the all-important lesson of "life is not fair (so, you better work hard)", this picture would make the perfect visual aid.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:36 AM) :

I have to say to 'editor': you say that this dress makes her 'look like a tall and skinny person??' She IS a tall and skinny person. She is about 5'10" and a size 2-4. It would be difficult for her to wear something that made her look fat, because she isn't. you should read 'amed studio's' comments.

To everyone else: yes, she is a model. yes, she models for j crew amongst other catalogs. I am sure that she is carrying a ginormous bag so she can fit her book into it.

and FYI, she's married to a male model and has the most beautiful daughter... gorgeous family - you should try to catch them as a unit, Sart.

Blogger valentina said ... (2:36 PM) :

Wow!!!she's gorgeous...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:54 PM) :

She is heaven. From a straight man.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 PM) :

It's love at first sight, but those shoes are the wrong yellow and a bit jarring. Not feeling the bag either.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:30 PM) :

Stunning.

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (9:46 PM) :

Angelina Jolie ROCKED that dress at the premier of Mr. & Mrs. Smith two years (?) ago. After that, mere mortals have a hard time making that dress look any better although this girl does a decent job of it.

Blogger valentina said ... (3:00 PM) :

do you have any pictures of Angelina Jolie with that dress?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 PM) :

I would think the dress, and its cut, are very ugly and the shoes are a bad choice. But the way She wears the dress, it inspires, no RIPS my brain away from the usual conventions. On Her, it's unconventional and eyecatching and stunning. It will make me consider new things with fresh eyes.
It's a GREAT picture, bravo!

Blogger Yellow said ... (8:07 PM) :

she looks perfect

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:21 PM) :

She is beautiful, but the dress...
I realy don´t like dress with " some points" on down like that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:23 PM) :

A beautiful vision

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:49 AM) :

Lovely colours, but as someone else said, the handkerchief hemline is too severe; it would look better shorter.

Though this is obviously a gorgeous model with a great figure, the empire bodice makes her torso look too short, so yeah, I agree with the person who suggested she looked out of proportion.

Sure she has visual impact on the street, but one point of being stylish is to know what suits your figure (even when you're a model) and which proportions look 'right' or 'balanced'. Just because it's a pretty dress, or fab combo doesn't mean it looks right on you. (That's why we get fashion victims.)

This is my first visit to this site, and I suspect the point of it IS the 'visual impact' but I'm seeing quite a few photos where people DO look out of proportion - and I'm not the only one to observe this. I'm a graphic designer, and this girl's outfit is the sartorial equivalent of looking at a page layout and saying, "Hmm, there are some great elements here, but something is NQR (not quite right)", and all it takes is to shift a few things here or there and suddenly, BANG - it's perfect!

I'd like to know the Sart's criteria for choosing a model - does he have a manifesto?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM) :

Lots of drooping looks going on here. Can't say I love it but she herself is stunning and makes this difficult look probably the best it could be.

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (11:55 PM) :

Valentina - Here is a photo of Angelina Jolie in a similar dress.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

unbelievable... being here in "conservative" Grand Rapids, MI, I would never see such a beautiful outfit, yes of course she is amazing too...

Blogger jayw said ... (9:50 PM) :

women of this level of beuty make me happy to be a man. im not being perverted, i could look at her face allday long, i mean in most of the other fotos i look at i view the dress sense and fashion etc, buit i cant take my eyes of her face.
