Comments on "Summer Layering, Paris"
i love this photo- the look on his face and the shadow. was this taken on a street sart?
lovely!
I like it better than the typical way of wearing the sweater over the polo.
The soulful look. Ah youth. Ah lost and forever gone.
absolutely beautiful, all of him.
An etude in layering! And is it all linen?!
BTW, I know it's hot but there have been a few boys on here forgetting to button themselves correctly.
There are some liberties that must be forgone...even when you're sexy-like, you know?
mltt
i really like the colors - how they are different, but in the same color range, makes it look very harmonious. the green sleeves are a very good bit of color.
very nice
At first man this man may look a bit sloppy, but this look is likely deliberate because of the seemingly fine materials his clothing pieces are made of.
I like this artful sloppiness, although I do think that the flap on the shorts/pants takes away from an otherwise sleek part of this outfit.
Does wonders for his skin tone.
Parisian Grunge?
I really don't know what to make of this. To me there's a ghostly echo of some of the neatly dressed Parisian guys I saw in Paris when I was there in the late Eighties: Crisply pressed chinos, tailored cotton dress shirts, and, of course, the sweater, draped squarely over the back of the shoulders with the sleeves tied neatly in front...
And here is the post-modern successor, slouching out of the
5th Arrondissement. I have this strong urge to offer him a cup of coffee.
Genial this boy.
very cool
The guy looks sweet. I like layering clothing too ,but am a bit worried that I´ll spoil the clothes .This guy has succeeded well and his clothes look clean and neat. The look seems effortless and that´s what layering clothing is all about.
that kinda arabic guy has that deep in his background I mean being well wraped. we can feel windy desert around
layers are never outgoing. sometimes it gives a chance to express much better when put more on. soft fabrics and even softer colours are up-2-date but that is no surprise, exactly why you picked him up and why he looks so delicate and stylish
i love when they keep his jersey that way
I've had this in my head all morning, I really want to know where he got each item. Relaxed and well put together.
loose the cargo, but sign me up
Oh, cheer up mate! :D
this is the quintessential example of european men's effortless perfection style. gorgeous! absolutely perfect.
It looks so casually thrown together, but yet so neatly put on. This is the epitome of looking good but feeling comfortable...(unless he's not comfortable) haha. Nice post.
i love it! he owns his look, and it looks so effortless. what a handsome devil, indeed
Rumpled, tonal perfection
I'd copy everything EXCEPT for the sweater.
Nice shot though.
Would love to go to Paris...this summer!
This young man interestingly manages to tie a sweater around his neck without looking in the least bit preppy.
I wanna marry him =)
Nice. Was this same type of angled sweater wrap featured before on your site?
i hope it's still somewhat cool... i'd be sweating with three shirts.
cool summer? no pun intended.
What a beautiful young man! So soulful. I love his creative unkemptness. This whole look works for me, because it looks completely effortless, is actually completely and totally functional AND works so beautifully stylistically. Love it to pieces! (pun intended). xoxo, as always, lady
I really love the muted pallete and the whole ease of his look.
This is beautiful. I love the dreamy expression on his face. This is really dressing to suit one's personality. Even though I'm female I'll definitely be taking inspiration from this look. I love layering and where I live (four seasons in one day) it's necessary. Thank you Mr Sartorialist
yay first comment
this guy looks so worn down...pants look nice though
another looks-like-I-don't-care-or-comb-my-hair-but-still-makes-me-look-cool guy. i am such a fan.
i love him and i love his layers. casual without being sloppy. tricky. well done.
and a great photo too.
I love this, but not practical for truly hot locales like say Florida unfortunately. :(
relaxed and fabulous. love the layers and the messy hair. my favorite post of the summer.
Gorgeous!
Oh boy! Me first to say this is really nice! Wow!
i love it! this is an example worthy of emulation. although, i can't help but hear my mother's voice in the back of my head saying, "it's summer! aren't you hot with all those layers?"
So simple but it works
So simple but it works
He is wearing so much, but makes it look like so little... who is this wonder man?
Love the colours. ( and the Canadian spelling of it) :)
i absolutely love this!!!!
Perfect! I love everything about this - the muted natural colours, the crumpled shirt, the jumper thrown around his shoulders, his hair, his 5 o'clock shadow, his expression.
i love this.
pretty!
so so pretty!
That look is just perfect - but only if you bring the »just fell out of bed«-look to the table and call constantly pull off that »I really don’t care«-face.
Very impressive though ... too bad I find myself lacking in both prerequisites.
Damn him and his sauve ease at pulling this look together...
Im jealous!!
Wow! that's what I call great layering. I love the shirts and the trouser combination. The sweater on top is maybe a bit too much (for summer days) but I can imagine it being perfect for spring or warm fall days. Great pic Sart!
One of the chicest examples of men's style.
L'artiste personified!
Handsome, effortless, beautiful.
I'm not quite sure but doesn't the sweater, used as some kind of scarf, like too artsy? This works as a pose but I'm afraid it's not suited to daily use
Too cool, this scarf, too cool.
I think I love his world-weary expression as much as the layering (which is great).
Bravo! the contrast of texture, warm tones in skinclothes vs the cool shadows/background - this is very Cezanne - almost watercolor like. Then his expression and clothes: inspirational in another way entirely - Your surroundings must agree with you as your recent work is some of the best yet!
It looks too hot for summer! With the current heat waves here in Greece, no one can layer like this...Great style though.
Perfectly done, though the sweater, or its "off the shoulder" placement, strikes me as affected.
But...one can't be well dressed unless one follows, to quote Elsie de Wolfe's dictum, the rule of suitability; it's summer, and all that layering just seems rarther...bizarre.
THIS IS HOW YOU DO LAYERS.
yes.
dreamy.
altho layering "looks" great... fact is this cool guy must have terrible circulation to be able to wear such layers... he's obviously not fit or he'd swelter... unless this photo was taken in November.
I love the muted colours he has chosen. Beautiful. They really suit the softness of the fabric and all those folds and layers.
I like it! Very cool. And very French, especially the sweater around the shoulders. It must be a French thing. I always see French tourists with sweaters draped around their shoulders. Yesterday I saw two little French boys, maybe 9 or 10 years old, with sweaters thrown around their shoulders.
i'm in love!
Some of you have mentioned that he must be "sweltering" in those layers.
Sometimes there are heat waves AND cold-breaks - this photo was taken when Paris was unusually cool.
This weekend had dinner on the beach at 5:30 pm and it was cool enough to wear a sweater or sweatshirt (and scarf!) but by the time I got back to the city (8:30pm) it was very warm and humid - weather changes so think it is interesting to show how people layer for cool weather in warm months.
he looks very laid back but very chic :) all the more endearing...
oh, and he has a striking resemblance to steve carell!
the sartorialist should visit the philippines! a lot of very fashionable people too. but then again, there's bound to be in almost all countries. cheers to your work!
Nothing this meticulously coordinated could fairly be referred to as "sloppy." The colors, the carefully orchestrated sweater placement, and half-tucked under-layer are all so fabulous that I don't quite know what to do with myself.
He is as easy and breezy as a "covergirl" and sooo adorable in that trying to look messy to the untrained eye, but those who "get it" will totally catch on--sort of way.
I officially am experiencing my first crush since 5th grade!
Those fabrics are great. Where can someone buy clothes like this in the states?
yum...can i just climb into those eyes!
This is up there with one of the best things I've seen on here to date. Brilliant.
Male beauty.
He has a timeless quality: the pirate/sailor/poet who needs no luggage.
Inspiring mood, nice picture.
Shabby chic at its best!!
very, very sexy.
a study in effortless and natural personal style. nothing studied or artificial about this look. he looks great!
Awesome
Very good choice with that strange weather in the last days. Looks fantastic to him. Very boheme. Bravo.
My god he looks gorgeous. And he's not my type. Very dumb question, but is that a really expensive outfit made to look 'just thrown on' - or has he just got amazing style?
Man he is effortlessly cool. Love the pic.
Beautiful face. Once again an original and effortless style. That is what I like to see in your shots.
Ah the French! It's that artfully dishevelled, effortless chic that the French achieve with such perfection. Vive La France!
Oh that is just so beautiful, love the pastashio against the light hazel in the shirt.
I generally shy away from neutral tones. But this combination along with his skin tone and its contrast with his dark hair and the whole effortlessly tousled look...sweet.
