Ah, yes. The hip, ultra-chic nuns of Paris.

I like it, but she made a bad choice on shoes. Too trampy for such a sharp / retro suit.

If I hold my hand over her feet - I love it! ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 PM) :

the shoes are amazing. i would feel like i could conquer the world in those shoes. the skirt is amazing. the white top underneath the black top looks like it would be uncomfortable and sort of breaks up the look a bit for me. her shoulders/facial expression/sunglasses trigger thoughts of linda hamilton from terminator 2, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I´m not really into womens fashion, but i know what i think is nice and whats not and i don´t really like this one.

FIERCE! I love it...and the shoes are hot! (Balenciaga?)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:05 PM) :

i love everything about this look -- except the shoes. i think these balenciaga numbers are TOO of the moment...and they don't quite complement the outfit that well. but everything else is beautiful on her--structural and sleek...very sophisticated!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:14 PM) :

Wow. She's tough! Although I love everything about the lady's calculated severity, I'm not sure many other ladies would want to look quite so hard. But it works for her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:15 PM) :

YSL style: make a woman look great and feel the height of elegance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:17 PM) :

i like overall, except that bolero sort of piece gives her a hulking look

Blogger JO said ... (7:23 PM) :

YES! Killer Shoes! I love them!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 PM) :

fierce.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:04 PM) :

I really love this, so I feel bad making a criticism, but:

1. The skirt should be just a little bit shorter because of her height

2. The skirt should be more tapered--a true pencil skirt. This would really show off her fab curves.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 PM) :

I must agree with the rest of the comments. I like each element by itself - the aviators, the skirt (though I agree shorter for this woman), the shoes the graphic black and white. But it is not working - trying too hard attitude coming through, lack of joie de vivre. It needs deconstructing and messing up - maybe removing some of the the pieces shouting for attention? Letting her hair down?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:37 PM) :

This is a classy combo. As presented I'd give her 9 out of 10 for style. If she lost the aviator sunglasses I'd give 10 out of 10. Nice find though.

This is like what the headmistress of an ultra cool - and slightly salacious - all-girls private secondary school would look like.

Teach me ;-o

mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:54 PM) :

She kind of channels Sharon Stone.

The jacket makes her look bulkier on top, and the shoes kind of give her feet a "potted plant" look.

Overall, a severe look, but definitely eyecatching.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 PM) :

she´s fancy and cool

Missing accessory: a riding crop

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 PM) :

get rid of those shoes!
her hair and undertop go well with the sandstone backdrop...sart always has the knack of matching his subjects in so well with the environment. a true photographers eye.
remember the dude with attitude carrying the polka dot bag? he went so well with the mies type windows in the new york background...

to quote paulo:
"FIERCE"

indeed! i love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:37 PM) :

now this is how you combine trendy items without looking like a trend zombie.

the silhouette is working for her, I like how she's wearing a very covering outfit, but offsets that with some sexy, tall, strappy heels. and the aviators make me think she is unafraid in all aspects of her life. powerhouse!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 AM) :

those shoes are lethal. hot!

Blogger Emma said ... (12:27 AM) :

An interesting, but a bit scary look. Not in a bad way.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:43 AM) :

hard-core. "calculated severity" is right. and to that end, i think the should complement the shoulders perfectly.

Blogger iwannaeatporkchoptonight said ... (6:01 AM) :

Chic but somehow the shoes appear too clunky for the total look. But at the same time, it looks like it works because she used them to own the style, you know?

Blogger Rice and Beans Vintage said ... (7:30 AM) :

I love the clothing, beautiful! Some how the the hair and glasses don't do it for me though....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:34 AM) :

How much does that girl remind me of Emmanuelle Beart in 8 Femmes!! Delicious!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:54 AM) :

Blogger MARIA H said ... (8:34 AM) :

the upper portion has an akward fit,
The shoes are awesome, but need a skinnier frame. Pretty brave in her choices, so BRAVO!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:21 AM) :

I'm going to add to famous people comparisons: Annie Lennox.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 AM) :

those shoes...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:07 PM) :

Monica, the star the bomb the one & only!!!

Blogger Kara Varilone said ... (12:35 PM) :

AMAZING. I think the shoes add just the right edge to the outfit. I would have like to see just a splash of color in there though, even if it was a soft neutral. Just something not black or white. Even a great big colorful cocktail ring for day. Otherwise, a fabulous look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:14 PM) :

I'm trying to figure out why an interesting, stylish outfit on a very attractive woman doesn't quite make it. Every piece is good, and consistent with the slightly severe look. (Even her hands look like fists, but only because she is holding things -- an accident of the moment, but one that fits the whole effect).

I think everyone is correct that it has something to do with how the skirt length and shoes change the proportions.

The jacket with big sleeves and the shape of the neckline with the white shirt underneath, all make the shoulder area look very wide -- even more so because her hair is combed tightly against her head.

The lean skirt would work great with this, but its length and the chunky shoes shorten her legs. It is as if you expect/want a triangle from shoulder to foot, but it gets cut off at the knees.

I think it would work better if the skirt was about 2" below the knee and the shoes were stiletto pumps or sandals. Then it would have that 1940s tough, sexy, broad-shouldered look, and her legs would have a really long line from belt to toe tip.

It's fascinating to try to understand what an impact such seemingly small details can have!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 AM) :

her hair is shaved in the back, and super short, not combed back

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 AM) :

Bad choise of proportions for her body: too big sleeves, too long skirt, wrong kind of shoes: the final effect is unelegant. Only Nadia Auermann could wear this look and be faboulous

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:03 PM) :

absolute ball-breaker! those shoes are ruggedly fabulous with that outfit. she's ready to take on the world.

Blogger Sara said ... (8:36 PM) :

The shoes are too heavy and self important - not working for me...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:09 AM) :

I like the dress in theory but it looks too big for this woman's frame - like she's being swallowed.
