I know I'm fickle but all it takes is seeing a guy like this (looking really cool in in a loose silhouette) to reconsider my my love of the slim Italian classics. You have to admit that this guy looks pretty cool and comfortable.

Couldn't love this more--every detail is perfect--the proportions almost excitingly great....

jacket too long, pants too short, feet lacking socks, shirt too low-cut, waist scarf too cute by half----other than that, it's a great look
Super look when it is hot as blazes outside. Pulled together, the rolled cuff gives just a hint of the beach, and if the belt is suggestive, so what--maybe it's one of those one size fits all marc by marc jacobs belts that he sells for about 10 bucks!

I really like this, I think he pulls it off well. Some people would look swamped by the clothes, he looks like a buddhist monk... with a cross hovering above him for juxtaposition!
It works for me on a slim body -- all but the shoes. The jacket, thin shirt with low neck, and loose pants all say "cool." The shoes say "hot."
Espadrilles? Sandals? Keds? What DO men wear on a hot summer day?
This guy is the Dalai Lama meets Comme des Garcon - both are tres cool and this look really works!

Not really feeling the look -- though I do like loose clothing when it's hot -- but I am definitely feeling the guy. He's a stunner.

I think what takes this look into the realm of the bizarre is the color, or lack thereof.
Whites, light grays, soft browns, etc.---these clothes should be in more summer appropriate colors.
Unfortunately, in all black I think he looks pretentious.

thank you for your live and let loose photos. there's nothing better than feeling uber comfortable and looking good. you should see some of the wonderful japanese clothes like SM2 and Pual Ce Cin that relish stylish comfort. it's the best way to live.
I can't understand how anyone thinks this looks good. He looks like a hobo with good shoes. I appreciate loose and baggy clothing, but this is too extreme. The outfit is nicely worn in and tattered, but the proportions are completely off. The jacket is too stretched out and has lost it's shape completely. Even a baggy outfit needs to be structured and tailored.

I bet the look is even worse in person, as all the extra loose fabric takes on a life of its own.
This looks goes far beyond "loose" or "relaxed".
Tibetan monk look (except for the colors)... sometimes you can wear anything, one's presence can make up for all the rest, it´s a matter of attitude...
Oriental silhouettes are sooooo beautiful. Not many people have a taste for it...but that is what i preffer.

Reminds me of the hobo look that was raging last Autumn (this blog included).
He's handsome yet this outfit doesn't do him justice. The shoes, however, are strangely interesting...they have thin soles? Probably really good for your feet, actually.

yes, i love it! especially in the summer, very slim fits look so uncomfortable and overly styled. this is the antidote.
My first thought was that he might be about to hand me a pamphlet...
but I rather like the outfit, until I get to the rolled cuffs, which look to me like they are ready to roll back down any second, in which case he might lose some of the serenity affect.

Tailored and slim is his winter thing, freedom for summer.

What kind of look ISN'T "affected"? Even jeans and a T-shirt can be "affected" it's all in the way it's worn. That's neither here nor there and sounds a little provincial.
I will say that this look absolutely must be worn by someone who is wraith thin. If anyone with any kind of a healthy figure were to wear it he or she would just look like he were camouflaging fat flaws.

It needs structure and good tailoring. It's obvious he isn't wearing the correct waist size. I have a pair of trousers that are two to three inches larger than my true waist size. The fabric drapes nicely and I roll up the cuff. A very nice casual beach look. What I don't like about this guy's approach is that the waist is probably six to eight inches to large for him and he probably has too much fabric bunched around his waist. The inseam of the pants look like it starts three inches above his knee. The leg openings are probably around 25 inches. This outfit looks as though it was tailored to have a loose look for a man four inches taller and 80 lbs heavier than this guy. As far the jacket is concerned it has lost it's structure. It's atleast two sizes too big, and the front has been stretched so it's curved. If your looking for a loose fitting summer suit I suggest you look at Armani for inspiration. He knows the appropriate way to structure and tailor a suit for a baggy look. This guy looks like he got his outfit from a big and tall thrift shop; like a 15 year old boy trying on his dad's suit.

I love the fact that he still looks really sophisticated!
Most people fail to see anything beyond thir own formal expectations.

there is the problem - this is clearly not an Armani look but a Yohji or CDG look, very different proportions

Those who think that every clothing item has to have a certain fit, cut, length and sheen are basically just one styling degree of separation from the baggy dockers-wearing masses.
A mature, original sense of style is not beholden to iron-clad rules.

He seems young enough, and interesting-looking enough, to be a grad student or struggling artist, and my guess is that those are thrift-shop clothes that he has turned into an outfit that is improbably stylish and wonderful. I think it suits him perfectly -- and Sart is right, it is much more Yohjii or CDG than Armani! Armani? No way! I'm also fascinated by the shoes -- Repetto jazz shoes? Might he be a dancer?

this look, and the comments it has inspired, are fascinating.
1) i think the "CDG meets dalai lama" comment is spot-on - if i blur my eyes, he absolutely looks like a buddhist monk - except that his "robes" are black. and this brings up a very interesting point for me - the connections between yohji/CDG and traditionally buddhist/eastern ways of dressing. perhaps critics have already written about this, i just don't know, but to see it so clearly is really cool. (it's as though one can see multiple layers of japanese fashion through history, in this one outfit.)
2) with regards to the violent debate for-and-against. to my mind this looks incredibly comfortable for very hot weather, but that may be because i come from and have spent time in non-western cultures/places. wearing baggy clothing in hot weather is how they do it in places like north africa, the middle east, india. fitted clothing just doesn't make sense in such a climate. and i think until you've actually tried on some of these types of clothing you just can't understand - because it's a completely different sensory (tactile/temperature) experience. the way the clothes allow you to experience the wind, humidity, fluctuations in temperature... it's totally different. and very sensual and wonderful.
finally, i will just say that it's simply not true that only skinny people can wear baggy clothes and look elegant - just looks at the people who dress like this in the afoementioned regions (north africa etc.)

I love those shoes, but I think the outfit might look better with sandals or slides. I think he looks fantastic (admittedly, I'm a sucker for bald guys). Contentment is a great accessory.
Also, this outfit would probably look good in any monochromatic scheme. In that respect, I think it's a more versatile summer style than the tailored look.

I think it's all about line and how well the clothes fit. His outfit is loose, but not sloppy. It still follows the line of his body. On the opposite side of the fit spectrum, a slim silhouette only works when it skims the body instead of being tight and sausage-casing-like.
Anyway, he's cute as a button!

When designers say they are looking "to the street" for inspiration, it is someone like this that might provide a creative spark. He is utterly, totally, himself, and unlike anyone else, and that is what is so refreshing and intriguing.
Of course, that is precisely what might disturb some people, who prefer everyone to be "branded", with every item of clothing identifiable and oh so very au courant, and easy to judge.
What is wonderful about this man's style, aside from his grace and elan, is precisely that he is not wearing labels of any kind.
I love it, and once again, it is a great photograph.
It is an exceptional choice in deed, not for that deserves the many patronizing comments that people find easy when confronted to exceptions to their own followed sets of rules.
"to big", "not armani" "provincial"... It only shows the level of conformity that people want to display trough clothes, when not being able to see beyond what the find familiar.
Finding recognition to their arguments on the basis of weather a designer is behind it, is also pretty weak...get some cojones people.
If I am not wrong he works for Yamamoto. This is a classic Yamamoto look, and he looks great in it.

I wouldn't be suprised if he walked of the set of a Matrix film or if he has the black belt in Karate. Looks like some kind of unreal person you wouldn't see anywhere else than on tellie. I like it, but there must be a very, VERY small group of people who can wear this and pull it off.
