Does It Get Much Better?
I took two shots because both are equally important.
- The jacket fits great - nice twist with the single breasted peak label.
- Cuff perfect, drop perfect
- Americans should not be afraid of linen suits, just bad quality linen suits. It was two in the afternoon by the time I took this shot and he looks no worse for wear.
- Love the dramatic spread of the shirt collar.
Perfect pant cuff and perfect slimness to the pant bottom
I was wearing brown suede loafers ,very much like his, today and they were so comfortable in the brutal Florence heat.
Next Summer I'm buying them in several colors.

This is simply amazing...one of my favorite shots, and I love the shoes.
I think the elegance of the look (the fit of the jacket and the color of the suit) is ruined by the too tight, too short pants.
i don't usually comment on the men's posts, but damn, that is perfect. he does the slim pant better than anyone i've seen.
How about the flower?
Was he attending an event (wedding)?
Interesting to see a plaid (Prince of Wales check) in a toffee hued linen cloth..
I abdolutely love the look! Combination of blue tie and brown looks amazing!
I don't think I could pull it off but this is well done by him.
Yes, this is a great pleasure to see, "relaxed" collar in particular.
My only concern--and here I get to channel my own mother--is the dough invested versus the suit's shelf life. That is, in fewer seasons than not, the pants are going to be unwearably tight and short.
But why not live for today? What else have we?
That glenn plaid linen is just amazing!
I can't think of a word to properly describe how great he looks so I'll just go with WOW!
Gorgeous suit EXCEPT for the pant bottoms. Ankles exposed and tapered? Not for me.
Linen terrifies me but this suit jacket fits him perfectly. I'm not so sure about the length of the pants.
He looks stunning, but what about the collar? Spread aside, shouldn't there be some collar stays in there? I hate the look of a rumpled collar, but maybe it's OK with a linen suit? Thoughts?
Sharp like real Vermont Cheddar!
This is the look.... I live in New York and I love dressing like this... fitted pant, fitted jacket, no socks.. and I always get so much attention..I love it..because American men ( even in New York tend to dress quite conservative and boring... this is perfect the entire package...
This is my be-all, end all. I'm in absolute heaven.
cxgvnice linen suits are hard to find. i love single breasted peaked lapel jackets (not easy to find either).
i like the fit of his jacket but not the fit of his pants. then again, slim and short pants seem to be the trend nowadays.
i do not like how the ends of his shirt collar curl up.
his shoes are nice. one can never go wrong with brown suede.
cheers,
sergio.
i like it.
Crisp, clean, and sexy. Well done! Very Milanese!
Brilliant Scott! Defiantly one of my favorite shots….
My goodness...it's 1964...i mean 1978 all over gain. I don't understand it, how many more times can the Mod look be revived?
That being said, this looks really really good
He really has the figure to wear this outfit.
Very elegant, yet casual and sexy.
This suit is so exquisite, it makes me wish I was a man. Do you think a woman, boyish or female shape, could also pull it off? Or is it just reserved for the stylish man? I want to look just like him, in the 34-28-36 version.
Love linen.... wear it all the time & wish I could get my husband to wear it more often. This guy looks fabulous - suit right down to the shoes. Very fashionable.
This look is just perfect..
"Does It Get Much Better?"
I HOPE SO.
wow, he looks fantastic. wish I could manage to stay so crisp in the heat...
I love the print of his suit. I think it's the color and print that makes the suit so chic.
Love the loafers but not the tassles.
looks like single breast peak lapel is THE LOOK right now.
i love it and i love how lapo elkann pulls it off all the time.
i've been looking all over for a jacket with peak lapel but nothing yet...
I was trying to work out where I thought I had seen this look before, and then it dawned on me...Last month you posted a shot of a New Yorker in a cotton suit. Yes the cut, colour, fabric and styling were very different, but for me they both EPITOMISED the same carefree, more relaxed, laid back approach that people have about dressing when the warmer months arrive. Bravo! I can't wait til the Aussie summer arrives!
Just perfect to me. Great style.
great combo! I love the combination of patterns (glen-checked suit, striped shirt and fleur-de-lys tie) nd colours. Great lenght on the pants, especially in the summer heat. Keep up the good work Sart, but it shouldn't be difficult with these people walking around.
Utmost stylish!
question to all the style-gurus: how long/short should a sleeve be today? ans also the lenght of a trouser. this one seems to may way too short. pls advice!
that is remarkable, and the shots are quite nice. i'm not buying into the tapered pants...but i can appreciate this overall look. especially a great looking linen suit. i like the comments about what you were seeing. it helps.
I would not hesitate to wear the same suit with proper pants. In fact, I dream of it. BUT, I hope this Thom Browne look goes away real quick. I love it from the shins up. Those short tapered legs are horrible. This is not an attractive look for any man.

Jacket great. Pants bad. Shoes marvelous.
Can we talk textile science for a moment? What makes a high quality linen suit - that doesn't wrinkle hatefully. I know that a good lining is part of the story, but I think also the linen has to be tightly woven. Am I right?
Two words: Collar Stays
Do they make socklet type things for guys? You know, those socks that just cover your feet, but you can't see them when you wear shoes. I hope they do because bare feet+closed shoes+hot weather is usually a recipe for disaster.
Maybe someone should get on that...
Fabulous top half - it looks cool, summery but sophisticated. I love linen suits - they so comfortable in hot weather. Then we go to the bottom half and it all goes pear-shaped. Tasseled loafers are one of my pet hates (sorry Sart - as much as I adore you and your blog the loafer just isn't my thing ;-)
Mind you, there seems to be something of a loafer invasion recently. The lounge lizard hits back! ;-)
OMG! Sheer perfecrtion! Handsome and stylish. This man has it all.
Now for the big question........where I can I get "it"? Who makes the suit?
Several folks have commented negatively on the cut of the trousers, which are quite slim and shortish, in the Italian mode. While this cut is not what I wear (in fact I have a similar brown/cream POW check suit in tropical wool and mohair the jacket of which is shaped and detailed much like this gentleman’s but with much fuller, pleated trousers cuffed to just break at my shoe tops), I am obliged to note and compliment the rise of the trousers on this suit. The waist of the trousers sits at the gentleman’s natural waist and corresponds to the buttoning point of the jacket, so no ill kempt look of shirt and tie showing between the jacket and the trousers. Bravo.
I'm having a hard time getting beyond that pant length here, too, but I see the point of accentuating the sockless shoes.
Points for style though.
It's all in the fit.
where do i get those shoes???
It looks as though there are two pockets on his right side. It is just a shadow or am I correct?
jnatividad,
his loafers are by alden. american-made. abuot $350-400/pair/
this man knows how to dress -- perfection
Perfect look and so well coordinated.
who makes those loafers? ferragamo? church's?
Wow. One of the best looks I've seen!
Ah, come on, exposing the ancles is so chic and nonchalant. It's European fashion at its best. I adore the soft collar and the gentle colours. Americans - learn from this man.
Challenge: how would we translate this look into a female version?
I don´t get it, why on earth has this man left his socks at home? To me it is like going commando in a wollen suit. I don´t think the shoes are gonna like it. Womens feet in summer sandals is a completely different matter though!
yes.oh yes.
Very,very well done.
