Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 AM) :

LOVE the cut of those pants!

Blogger Lit said ... (3:47 AM) :

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgoeus. I love this woman, her attitude, the way she tucks her hands into those over-sized pants, and right up to her hair, love it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:46 AM) :

Hands down my favourite look from these pages so far. Seemingly effortless, understated and chic. It made my heart flutter a little!

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:59 AM) :

this is style, I think...

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (5:07 AM) :

Great attitude, yes. She does look German though - while Kate never did.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:07 AM) :

Very Margaret Howell. Nice look!

Blogger Jennifer said ... (7:17 AM) :

wonderful.

Blogger Elle said ... (8:01 AM) :

WOW. such a pulled together look, but still cool, comfy, and not stiff at all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 AM) :

I love the look, the colors, the attitude. Perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:39 AM) :

In my dreams, this is exactly how I dress! All jokes aside, she makes the multiple layers, colours, and the shape of the pants young and fresh, not overwelming and old. Truly inspiring.

Those pants are beautiful. Love the feminine interpretation of a masculine style. Fabulous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:18 AM) :

she is truly incredible. what a photograph!

Blogger lewehrman said ... (10:00 AM) :

In the dictionary, next to the word style is a picture of this woman. Just flawless. You made my day.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:01 AM) :

definitely your shots have style

cheers from argentina

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:05 AM) :

oh, that's just utterly fabulous!

i am LOVING the germany and belgium pics. more, please...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:48 AM) :

as a huge katherine hepburn fan (she went to my alma mater, Bryn Mawr College), i am a bit partial to this lady's look.

classic, elegant, beautiful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 AM) :

Love love love the orange sweater. It's what raises the outfit above a (albeit attractive) cliche.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:25 AM) :

A lovely, classic face and attractive hair style ruined by an ill considered choice of baggy, abominable pants.

She obviously has not developed a coherent style at this point and really needs to dress to highlight her strong points, which are a wonderful face and attractive figure.

I think Capri pants rather than Shanghai would fit do her justice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 AM) :

She's carried it out from head to toe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 AM) :

The best of all: The face.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (11:42 AM) :

Love tha pants and the colors she used! Her hair is so cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:13 PM) :

please let wide leg jeans/pants be out. and skinny jeans be in still! and always!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:30 PM) :

Wide leg pants and an s-curve stance! Sexy!

Wide leg pants & an s-curve stance! Sexy!

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (1:42 PM) :

I love the men shirt and cardigan with escort. Totally Hepburn, as Mr. Useless said.

Katherine Hepburn probably did more for female cross dressing than anyone else, except maybe Dietrich.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

Oh, she's one of my favorites. The cool colored shirt with the pop-orange sweater. The bright modern colored sweater that has a traditional, loose shape. Those pants! And the tight scarf at the neck offsetting all the loose clothes. She's just awesome.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:18 PM) :

ok i really don't want to be catty here...but anon @ 11:25am WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?! what about sexy/ subtle/ original/ unexpected? as georgeous as she is, capri pants, as you suggest, would take her from "incredibly chic" to "soccer mom" quicker than i can say "originality is a virtue!" and on a side note, there's a difference between baggy and wide-leg.

Blogger The Spicers said ... (2:46 PM) :

Great style! She looks very at ease with herself, her comfort making her even more attractive.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:05 PM) :

lovely masculine look femininely interpretated

Blogger Disneyrollergirl.net said ... (3:44 PM) :

How chic!

Blogger atticus_finch said ... (3:44 PM) :

wow. kudos to her on this arrangement.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:52 PM) :

I love her pants, they're so feminine, although the cut is boyish...and we're sick of skinny pants anyway!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:23 PM) :

the little scarf (really more like a cravat, even) totally makes this look ultra-awesome.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:01 PM) :

This is one of my favorite outfits on this page. I’m getting tired of skinny pants.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:12 PM) :

Really people, you like this? Besides the pop of color in the sweater, I don't see anything special here.

Blogger Mutterlein said ... (6:44 PM) :

this woman is amazing! Really great style, the whole look is perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:32 PM) :

She illustrates class, beauty and an aloofness without any effort. The combination is a style that few people can portray and it is simply beautiful. Whether it be Kate Hepburn or Cate Blanchett's style, this woman has what it takes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:33 PM) :

this is the way it's done. dressing for yourself and no one else.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:39 PM) :

What a great shot. This look is on it's way to the U.S. I find that Germany and , oddly enough, Amsterdam , is always so ahead regarding cut and colour, but it always finds its way to America. I don't know why it takes longer to adopt here, but she sure looks great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:49 PM) :

as a woman with some hips and butt, I applaud the return of wide legs and high waists on pants. okay, skinny jeans are fine in their place. But I totally know where this woman is coming from! I am sure she is 300 times more comfortable than the next chick in her skinny jeans, and looks more unique to boot.

Blogger Sara said ... (8:54 PM) :

Wow, stunning...amazing that people just LOOK like this on the street. I need to start working a little harder on my "street" appearance!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 PM) :

I think the pants just look baggy. Hope she doesn't trip!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:07 PM) :

Love love love love the pants!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 PM) :

Anonymous at 2:18 I LOVE your comments and agree wholeheartedly!

This woman has class, taste, and doesn't have to be flashing her breasts (fake), ass (flat), belly-button, bling, kids, SUV/mommy van, ghetto fashion, botox, youth and/or youth-obessed (I could go on for DAYS, dahling) in order to make a statement that she is a woman. Here is subtle, understated elegance. Period. A timeless look. Twenty years from now (I'll be dead then) you can look at this pic and not be sure as to when it was taken, because this outfit and the aura of this woman is so timeless (thank you, as always, sart); capri pants, belly buttons, fake breasts, bling, etc. will always shreik a fixed point in time and space, one I believe that will make the world of style duck its head in embarassment.

I must say, sart, that I am loving your pics from Germany. Who knew??? Keep 'em coming, they keep my spirits up! x0x0x0, lady

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:24 AM) :

She looks great. But it seems to me that she can only pull this look off because she is very thin and very beautiful.

On a more curvaceous woman a baggy outfit like this would make her look (1) matronly and (2) overweight.

Blogger Bel said ... (5:11 AM) :

That red is so vibrant and gorgeous on her. Well spotted!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:21 AM) :

These pants and their attractiveness or otherwise seem to be a source of debate.

Personally, I don't feel that they are becoming on this lady.

They are elephantine, completed swallow her figure, throw off her silhouette and frankly, not attractive on HER.

Yes, the trousers might fit on a younger girl at the beach, gym or at home.

But on this particular lady, she is best dressed in something classically simple rather than lost and swallowed in those appalling pants which I suspect that she will throw out at the end of Summer when she tires of that exaggerated and unattractive silhouette.

Blogger Carlene said ... (9:51 AM) :

I just have to weigh in on this. I love wideleg trousers, I love wearing them, I love the way I feel in them. Drapey, wideleg trousers with pockets. And flats. I hardly ever see anyone wearing them though, other than myself (at least not in the US). I wore them to work and my boss said to me "You look like you're dressed for a wedding." (???)

So it's nice to see them represented here on the Sartorialist.

I always wonder about the anonymous posters who need a high heel instead of a flat, more skin instead of a turtleneck, a belt or whatever, to "show off her figure." And pressing a woman, always, to "smile!" I always imagine it's either men saying these things, or women who think women should be dressing only for men.

(That said, I do think the trousers on this woman could use a teensy bit of tailoring at the hem.)

Blogger Indulge in Fashion said ... (3:39 PM) :

very haute look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 PM) :

where can a gal get wide leg pleated pants such as these, except sitting on the natural waist? these look somewhat dropped waist.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:00 PM) :

THESE ARE THE TROUSERS I have been looking for.

PS - Lovely woman. Sharp but not hard. Very German, ne?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:04 PM) :

"I think Capri pants rather than Shanghai would fit do her justice."

Wha? Does anyone even sell capri pants anymore? That would only make this very classic woman seem dated.

Blogger savvylondon, jr. said ... (6:59 PM) :

she even stands like hepburn. wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:58 AM) :

These pants are exaggerated and excessive. I suspect that she will wear them a few times and then dispose of them; they simply call too much attention to themselves to have any lasting value.

I think that there is something to the issue of the supporters/detractors of this look being divided by gender lines.

Men like something a bit more fitting and figure revealing; women...perhaps dress for fashion and themselves. I don't know....

I think that it's pretty fair to say that both men and women dress to be more attractive; highlight their best features and minimize their shortcomings. Why would anyone deliberately dress in clothing that is unbecoming, unless they just don't care or just don't realize it.

Part of the benefits of this site is to make some useful critiques rather than just join the bandwagon and praise without any sort of critical assessment. Not that the model actual reads these critiques but rather for us, the reader, to refine our taste and think about our individual taste and presentation and motivations in our dress. And to discuss.

But in general, all that is exagerated and excessive is temporary fashion; items will revert to the mean.

Look in your own closets; you will probably find that the excessive clothes that you have bought are hanging there, unworn. That is my experience, in any case.

Throw out the pants, Ms. Hepburn, and return to your elegant roots.

very beautiful

Annie Hall.

Blogger Justine said ... (4:32 PM) :

love it. LOVE it. wide legged pants optional but not necessary for such a figure.
I still LOVE it.

Blogger Crystal said ... (3:40 AM) :

The outfit would be nothing without the color of the sweater. The sweater takes it from frumpy secretary to something fresh that only a certain attitude can pull off.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 AM) :

Killer combo.
That's what outfits are all about. They should fit. Predominantly your personality.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:22 AM) :

peeerfect!
