On the Street.....The Trench, Tompkins Square Park

I love the overall fit
I really love the way he has tied the belt back and how he has achieved that "fin-like" yoke on the coat back.
It is not the way he is standing, the "fins" just stay that way.

it's all about the lean line. the white pair of shoes is the dot on the exclamation point.

I think all the subtle detail just makes this look. Like the popped collar with the scarf around it and of course the way the belt is tied in the back. Very innovative ways to jazz up an outfit without having to do much. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Drama in the back... It's like he's transfered the very best sort of ergonomic car design to his clothes with those spoiler-like fins. Cool.

(But he looks happily blase about it all - a good thing - rather than being all, "my look is inspired by the ultimate collaboration between automotive design and high fashion or whatever blah blah".

This is a testament to the fashion imperative, to the will-to-style.

Though the result isn't head-turning, the guy has definite ideas about dress and the effects he wants to achieve. Seeing him, the viewer is invited into a small private world.

This is one of the best menswear looks you have posted in a long time. I am absolutely in love with the entire asethetic. Especially love the pants (something that could easily be overshadowed by the more detailed top). They are skinny without being tight and short without being obsence. Beautiful!

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (7:56 AM) :

Interesting. I really like the individual pieces, and I love how he's wearing his scarf, but for some reason it's not completely coming together. The pants just a touch too short, no?

Blogger Thysz said ... (7:57 AM) :

again, the perfect compliment to an impeccable style: the smile.

The first photo is so good!

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (9:15 AM) :

That's a great trench, loose and slouchy with deep sleeves, almost dolman. The whole ensemble, the burgundy scarf, the dark slim trousers and that shock of white in his oxfords, nonchalant and cool.

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (9:17 AM) :

I just noticed how he tied his scarf over his trench coat's collar. Hmmm, he obviously knows what he's doing and is totally 'styled' to the nines. A for effort.

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (10:12 AM) :

Very chic and perfectly innovative. He took a boring trench and made it his own.

Blogger Big Eyes Strange Names said ... (10:19 AM) :

I LOVE the fact that this was done by a man. From the beginning, that he thought to tie his trench in this fashion with a clear vision of how the rest of the coat would fold, to the end in that he carries it off so well. And to top it off, the sunlight in this photograph is beautiful. Don't you love the idea of natural light? It makes capturing an image much more exciting, it's a gamble, and something that cannot be recreated.

i'm in love!!

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (10:26 AM) :

So stylish and fresh and innovative. Did you ask him how hi does the fin effect? IS that starched to stay this way?

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (10:37 AM) :

Yes, brilliant. And let's not forget the white shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:37 PM) :

love the scarf!

wonderful shot. very original take on the trench coat.

Blogger hoi polloi said ... (3:16 PM) :

Nice! This looks like A Brooks Brothers trench. I have one too :)

Despite the blur on the second photo, this shot is so GREAT!

I have no clue what's happening around his neck but it's just great. The shoes? Don't even go there...it's just great.

This one was surely stopped in the street for compliments several times.

Absolutely love the fit on those pants - it's so hard to find a pair that slim.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:46 PM) :

yep, i love it when men wear white shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:00 PM) :

Well, the white shoes are jarring. He does have the body to work the suit, and I like the trench and tie.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:58 PM) :

love love love love love

Blogger abovo99 said ... (10:56 PM) :

From the top pic, he looks like young Paul Newman...Very sweet!

Blogger Emilieee said ... (11:22 PM) :

Cute coat!! Love it. And the way he tied his scarf. Just wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:02 AM) :

Looks wonderful - although I guess I might be the only one not liking the white shoes. It makes "visual sense" in that it gives the whole outfit punch but for me it doesn't "feel" right because trench coats make me think of cool (and may wet) weather which is the opposite of white shoe weather.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 AM) :

I love the trench photos you've been posting. I'll have to tie back the belt on my APC trench! He looks great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:57 AM) :

Is it just me or does he resemble a young Terry Hall from the Specials? (In a very good way)

Blogger isoform said ... (11:29 AM) :

I love his whole look! Excellent on all fronts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 AM) :

caught in the noreastern, i found myself donned in a vintage, lemon yellow trench but feeling rather boring. then i remembered this photo and drew inspiration from it, using a hand-crafted silk scarf from prague. it's really a wonderful look, bravo.

Blogger Megan said ... (4:44 PM) :

love the way he's tied the scarf, it pulls the look together so effortlessly. and such a friendly smile.
