I almost bought that dress at Marc by Marc on Bleecker, but for some reason decided against it. Seeing it on her makes me want to go back and get it. Immediately.

Crazy that this totally 80's high school hipster look is based around a Marc Jacobs dress...no, wait, it isn't; it is like we have come around to where the 2000's version of the hip, young thrift store shopper buys her clothing from a man who bases his second line on the young hip versions of her from the 70's-90's.
Whew--makes my head spin. She looks just like several of my best friends from 1987--CUTE.
it helps that she's gorgeous, but for me what sets off the whole thing are the shoes....
I love the boots with the dress, but am not so in love with the scarf and bag. That is, I love the scarf and bad (the scarf in particular), but am not so convinced they go with the boots and dress.
She's so cute, though, that it almost doesn't matter.

She looks fabulous in the outfit but I don't think many people can pull it off.
The bulky scarf and flopping boots can add the illusion of pounds to the body so you have to be pretty skinny to pull it off. Plus the colors look fun and sexy when you are young and cute.
She is Marc Jacob's target audience!! Or what's in his head when he decided this collections.
I'm not crazy about the combo. The dress deserves to be worn as it was designed to be worn..simple, airy, floaty, lightweight. The accessories weigh it down. Deliberate grunge has no elan.
I like the giant brown scarf against the black jacket almost as much as the spring colors.
I don't know, it just seems like there's too much going on.

I can't say how many times I see girls attempting this sort of look and falling short. She truly has perfect execution: the perfect length of the scarf, the slightly offsetting colour of the boots and the fabulous hair.

I love it. It's equal opportunity dressing. Why shouldn't the kids now have the right to look as crazy as we did in the 80's? You're only young once. That is, unless you're an eccentric artist...

love how she pulled off this colorful look so effortlessly. it just works for her...like she rolled outta bed, threw it on, and was out the door. NICE!
only one little gripe. i CAN'T stand the sight of "it" bags. u know, the ones that u see lohan, hiltons, simpsons sporting and then see replicas being sold by city street vendors in multitudes of skittle colors. yea, not too crazy bout that.
but, overall, very cute. i esp. love the dress and her hair.

Too bad she's on Bleecker though. I'm sorry, I love fashion but I just can't support what's happening to our beloved Bleecker street. It goes way beyond Gentrification, and has become a complete selling of part of the soul of the Village. Every local, unique store has closed down to make way for high-priced chains that could afford quadrupled rent. Did you know one of those little stores costs $19,000 to rent out? Only Flagship stores that could afford to lose money can open there.
There's soon to be really nothing NY about that street - only an empty shell of what people think NY is 'supposed to look like.' Not unlike Universal Studios....
Hmmm. I'm not convinced that her "Pat Benatar" 1980s' shoes work with her outfit.

What makes this look work? It's quirky and individualistic. The pieces are all good on their own, but she's in one style from the top of that difficult (yet flattering) haircut to the bottom of those unfashionable (yet deliberately stylish) pixie boots. Her sense of colour is quite sophisticated - if you mixed all the bright colours in the plaid dress with black, you'd get something very near the brown of the scarf. I'd love to see her on a different day to see if she consistently pulls off such artistry.
There's no ignoring the fact that this (beautifully photographed) woman is quite attractive, young, thin, and leggy - she could look good in a bin liner (with a wide red faux-croc cummerbund, no doubt!). But there's something more at work here than conventional beauty. Her elegant hands and delicate smile lend a kind of grace that leavens a combination of elements that might have looked a clashing mess on another attractive woman. Imagine P*ris Hilt*n in the same outfit, if you dare.
What doesn't work? The bag. Block it out with you hand to see the difference. Call me kuh-razy, but I think a white or off-white bag would better balance the volume of darks.
I love it! Even her stance is cool. an ensemble with the right attitude makes all the difference.

This is so a combination of things I wouldn't expect to like - ankle boots, oversized scarf and is that gingham? But she really, truly makes it work. She looks casually but calculatedly great.
The fur element is what really makes this a huge success for me, but agree with those who hate the overplayed and overbearing bag.
