my daughters, Molly (5) and Abi (7) would be so jealous of his hair...last Mother's day, I dyed all our hair pink (super, looking like a wig, unbelievably pink)and it was amazing. anyway, that's what this red reminds me of

i went to the vidal sassoon academy with that kid. he always reminded me of the boy version of rainbow bright.
i love experimenting with hair color but i think his hair makes him look like a walking corpse. maybe that's just him though and it doesn't matter the color of his hair(hideous rusty-cherry-in-a-weird-way aside). to be positive though, his jacket is kickass and his clothes are definitely cool-- and fitted in a good way.

What a beautiful young man. Reminds me of Jim Morrison or Brian Jones...also love his 19th century British poet look (think Keats, Shelly). I can't imagine all NYU students looking like him, and yet it's a phrase I see throughout the comments to your posts, Sart: "Looks like an NYU student"; "Looks like an East Village/NYU student". These comments, for me, raise the question: "When is it fashion, and when is it individual expression?" Is fashion individual expression? If, for example, in NYC, NYU students have a common dressing esthetic, then is it (their dress) an individualistic expression of the self, or it is just feeding off of the images they have of each other? And Sart, for those of us outside of the "hip" fashion world, how do we know, how would we know?
Of course, this question is not limited to just NYU students, but rather, all those in the hip, fashionable world.
If you would care to respond, Sart, I would be interested in your response.
The outfit is intruiging, the hair very flashy and in a mesmerizing colour, but the longer I look at this picture, the more I feel like his face has just been pasted on there. The combination of it all is daring and inspiring, but he lacks the on-camera presence to really pull it off. Or it's eyemake-up that lacking. Not sure.
Love the hair (great cut!), the jacket and pants. I like the idea of the brooch but not that particular brooch (looks too cheap). And I love that he's not addressing the camera.
I love the jacket. I love the brooch. I like the foulard, the pants, and the colours of all of them work very, very well together. I wish he didn't have ronald macdonald hair. I bet he's got a nice dark brown natural colour under there that would make me think he's cute, instead of thinking he's kind of gross.
I actually think his hair/skin tone combo and the way he has his scarf are the most remarkable things about this guy. Maybe the clothing seems fantastic if you aren't used to shopping in thrift stores or the latest LV bag is on your list, but he is actually just another student with style...he does it well, but the coat/pants are not all that striking if you were an art major.
I'm surprised by how good I think he looks. I wouldn't normally like such a dramatic hair colour on a man, but the overall combination is great!

For all of those saying this is a classic NYU/East Village style, this guy is actually from Southern California, recently moved to WA DC, and was just visiting his girlfriend in NY. Haha. But if you said he looks cool, it's true. He is a really cool guy!

Funny...That's my ex-boyfriend's bandmate. How ironic for him to show up on the internet all the way across the country (he's from southern california). And for those drooling over his hair: I'm pretty sure that's what he does for a living. I also have to say I've seen him dressed much better once before.
When I first saw this picture, I though of a zombie Raggedy Ann. I think the hair color is fascinating, but the cut is so straggly and unkempt that I can't appreciate it. And if a guy can get away with a brooch, he can get away with a little, slighly tinted highlighted powder dusted all over his face.
One thing I love about this site is I feel that the photos posted aren't merely pictures of people who look mentally insane, and as if they haven't showered in a while, which is what a lot of fashion sites do. I don't mean to be a snob, but bright colors do not necessarily make for a brilliant fashion statement.
Red hair is for those born with it. No one else can pull it off, they always look to be someone desperate to draw attention to themselves. Oddly enough that's the perception many have of natural red heads. Why one would willingly choose to draw that much attention is a mystery.
But it is true, red hair is extremely gorgeous, you have trouble drawing your eyes away...
I hope everyone remembers that these are actual real people and not celebrities (well most aren't) that seek out the papparazzi. They were asked by SOMEONE ELSE to take their picture for their uniqueness. Not the other way around. They got dressed and expressed themselves. There is way too much petty commentary and it is jealousy, plain and simple. The difference between this cute boy and Mr. Vacca is one of the amazing things that make NYC one of the best street shows in the world.

Maybe it's the increased attention, but this blog is taking a negative, self-aggrandizing turn. And the negative comments are completely lacking in originality.
This looks like French child colored this in with crayons - the colors are so vivid and at the same time flat. I love this but don't want to schedule lunch. This is a character, not so much a real person. But still really good.

at this point, i'm not sure what else i might add, but i'll make the effort. i like this post because it does spawn a conversation, more that "love those shoes"..."she's so great!!"..."nice use of pattern." not that there's anything wrong with that. but i was thinking the same as one of the anom's. when is it good fashion, individual expression, or just regurgitating what you see around you? its a regular art student look. its not special. although he does it well. its like all the goth kids in the 80's who wanted to be different and all looked the same. or the guys who ride harley's and all shop at the harley shop. its only interesting in isolation. i do like to see someone taking risks, and doing something really different, even if it offends my sensibilities, but i dont think wearing a ladies jacket is really good fashion. its just a cry for help.

True. I've seen this type alot in NYC, but I go to DC enough. I don't think you'll have trouble spotting him there.
I think that there have been three people on this thread who've had the decency to be honest: the hair color is ugly. Going outside of natural colors is generally a bad idea--it is inauthentic--and though some folks can pull it off, this guy can't manage (he's created an imbalance, where it seems his gravity is pulling him upwards to his shocking hair, which distracts from him as a person).
Now, other than that, his fashion is great. Brooches, on men especially, are underappreciated. In response to one Anonymous, I'd say that this blog is full of people too ready to say that every detail of a photo is fantastic. Sure, the Sart takes great photos of genuinely interesting and fashionable folks, but there's a point past which "I love this look" just doesn't cut it, and we have to discuss exactly which points are good and which bad. For example, there was a great post a while back with a man in a brown suit (from Milan, I think) that had some problems with the threadwork near the lapels. Most people agreed that the suit overall was fantastic, but there was an argument about what the cause was of the messiness and what we should think about it as it affected the entire look. With respect for differences of opinion, I'd say that's exactly the approach that is most profitable. 'Cause there just isn't anyone showing up in a photo here who we can't appreciate *some* aspect of their style, but nor does that mean that we cannot be discerning in what we compliment and what we question.

In response to Alex 4:37's comments. You think the color is ugly; others firmly disagree. Overall, I'm inclined to agree with much of what you're saying about the ridiculous amount of praise seen here, but not when you state your opinion as FACT.
The woman's jacket is forgiveable because it fits him so darn well, but adding the brooch makes the whole look over-the-top "femmy".
Men who wear clothes that were obviously made for women are in a risky business. I've seen it pulled-off impeccably, but this young man is off the mark.

Alice said he was missing eyemakeup. i've got similar skin colour (missed out on the true red hair, but a dye bottle fixes that), and yes, we look funny without eye makeup. i try to embrace my apparent lack of lashes/ brows as an aesthetic, because making up every single morning would kill me.
to whoever was worrying about wearing women's clothes, my partner does and he is not remotely feminine. he's skinny, and likes a tight, seventies style fit for just about everything. women's jumpers often fit much nicer. he hasn't gone as far as jackets or pants, though other not at all feminine men i know have.
A bit of a Balenciaga for 2007-2008 look there. I mean the coats from the winter collection. Great blog btw!
