On the Street......Dior Homme for Femme, New York

I don't remember or didn't quite understand how she did it but this young lady (about a size 2) is wearing all Dior Homme.

I asked if she was seeing a reaction to Hedi leaving and she said people are buying the denim like collectors items.

She kinda looks like the young man they shot for this seasons Dior Homme advertising campaign, don't you think?

OMG, she's fabulous!! Initially, I thought she was a mannequin.

Love the drastic but fabulous haircut.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:35 AM) :

I love this. Do you have any close up shots?

Blogger Jennifer said ... (7:45 AM) :

fantastic. total harmony, from head to toe. i love when someone takes it all the way, full committment.

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (8:00 AM) :

She looks like she came out of a sci-fi film. Great style. An yes, she does look a bi like the ad model. I'd love to meet her and talk about her style.

Blogger Christi M. said ... (8:28 AM) :

I am in love w/ that jacket! Great haircut too... not many women could pull that off. Awesome pic Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:46 AM) :

She looks good, but not like a man because her stance is wrong. If she'd take on an attitude of power and privilege she'd look more like a man. She looks like a straight girl in a guy's suit. Cute, but not quite there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:49 AM) :

I was in the store two weeks ago and she was not very pleasant (I was actually looking for the women section). She was surrounded by two other young men who looked just like her. A bit scary actually...even then, people were cutting each other off to get to the denim.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (8:51 AM) :

Yes, she looks amazing. The lighting of this shot is great too, the contrasts highlight the deep blue and the red of her lipstick. And that haircut is fabulous! Agree with nyc modelista, it is pretty drastic, but she looks great! The whole look is clean and lean.

Blogger will anderson said ... (9:25 AM) :

she looks great. i dont know if i've ever seen anyone more at ease on the sidewalk with a cigarette. she looks like someone is not likely to ever read this. unapproachable. i like it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 AM) :

I wish you made a film about her.
and how can she fit into the clothes??

She is amazing!

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (11:31 AM) :

She looks so beautiful with that outfit. Many women would not, but she did it!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (11:32 AM) :

She looks amazing; not something many could pull off, but I LOVE it! Always a fan of Monsieur Slimane's stuff.

Blogger Cut of cloth said ... (12:16 PM) :

Love this kind of Androgyny
Simple and perfectly balanced
And Ultimately
Extraordinarily
FEMININE

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:51 PM) :

a modern venus, pretty flawless.

Blogger Last Day Emails said ... (2:11 PM) :

Wow! I wonder what she wears on the weekends? She doesn't just look good, she looks interesting too.

re: liza's comment. she might not look like a Powersuited Man but she looks boyish, and i think i've seen a lot of guys stand with that pose.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:55 PM) :

i am always amazed at how you manage to photograph people in front of backgrounds that completely fit into their overall image and mood.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

Her hair is mystifying. Both elegiactic and je june. I'm tempted not to look but her stare says, "my sense of style is not the only thing that kills." Brilliant conception.

Cordially,

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

I know her..she's amazing.

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (5:13 PM) :

She's magnificent. Her colouring is rare--very pale yet blue-black hair and red lips suit her.

But...is it just me or are her sleeves too long?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 PM) :

She looks Fab for sure....

But the cigarette is a Buzz Kill!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:32 PM) :

The subtle sheen of her hair, clothes and shoes against the stainless steel background kills me. Perfect as usual, Sart. How do you do it?

Blogger Disneyrollergirl.net said ... (7:14 PM) :

Ooh I *heart* Slimane. Maybe him and Helmut will hook up and do something interesting together?

Blogger 'signorina' said ... (7:25 PM) :

She looks fabulous!

Was it Selma Blair who said recently (in Vogue?) that Ashley/Mary-Kate Olsen (it's all the same to me, whichever one it was) advised her to go for the smallest size Dior Homme to get the right fit?

I don't see me fitting any size of Dior Homme, but this lady looks absolutely amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:38 PM) :

Beautifully androgynous, amazing photo too. I have a male friend that has that beautiful pale androgyny, even when he's wearing a waistcoat and tie.

Blogger Fashionista, Size 14. said ... (7:46 PM) :

I like her hair... is it blue?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:45 PM) :

dior homme is for androgynous, skinny men anyway... it totally works. i know many women who like the mens cuts on themselves.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:39 PM) :

highly attractive.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 PM) :

I have said it before and will say it again, Hedi Slimane's last few collections for Dior Homme have been some of the best womenswear to come out of Paris. I think this amazing woman pretty much proves it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:45 AM) :

Brash. Rebellious. I like.
The jacket fits her so well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:21 AM) :

She looks like she was just beamed down from a UFO, and I mean this in the most wonderful way possible. I think she's killing it and manages to pull off a very different type of look.

Blogger An (ex) alien in new york said ... (10:35 AM) :

i wish i could afford that *sigh*

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 AM) :

She has the best hair!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

The fact that she's tailored a men's suit for her small frame is interesting, indeed! However, the grace here is in that precision hair cut and not the precision suit.

She must go to the salon weekly to keep that up.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

Dior Homme has a small line for women called petite taille, which is pretty self explanatory. Not only are the sizes smaller, the pieces are also cut for a women's body,

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

OMG! perfection!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 PM) :

qnvuguip!

Oh, man. This is the look I went for when I was her age. Sorta succeeded through thrift store purchases and self-tailoring.

But, man. Had I had the money THIS is what I would've bought.

And, had I straight hair THAT is style I would've worn.

Lusting from a distance and time.

I have the same cropped jacket - it's from winter 06 / 07 .... Anyone who is thin suits Dior Homme, male or female but you have to be slight for it to look right ... It's so popular with females - a couple of weeks ago I was in the store on Rodeo & Lindsay Lohan was buying a bunch of stuff - not entirely sure how she fits into it giving the size of her breasts but oh well!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:31 AM) :

As with many of the photographs here, after seeing the picture I cannot imagine the young woman wearing anything else.

Blogger andrea said ... (9:31 AM) :

like an outtake from Madonna's Rain

Blogger isoform said ... (11:24 AM) :

i really like the idea. but something about the bottom bothers me (pants and shoes--i would have preferred slimmer slacks and flat shoes). i love her haircut and the cropped blazer!
and for me this aesthetic isn't about dressing up and being powerful like a man or whatever someone else said. it's about androgyny and genderf*cking--which is something I'm all about and why I really like Dior Homme and Ann D. :]

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:47 PM) :

The hair looked familiar, and sure enough: she turned up in a MisShapes photo gallery (April 7, 07) . . . Pretty unmistakable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:34 PM) :

and, of course, there is also her sly little smile.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:36 PM) :

Cold. This person looks cold. But in a good way.

Blogger Bel said ... (8:56 PM) :

Awesome outfit. Perfect! Shame about the hair.

Blogger Karina Cifuentes said ... (6:34 PM) :

I've seen this girl on the train a couple times...she always has a large Balenciaga shopping bag with her. I wonder what she does...reagrdless, her style is amazing and her own.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:33 AM) :

Her name is Sarah and she's absolutely FABULOUS!!! She works at Dior Homme and she's never been any less than pleasant with me... although she knows when I walk through the door that I'm going to be buying, not browsing. I bought a t-shirt the last time because I found myself walking by and just HAD to go in to see HER.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 PM) :

I actually just saw this woman yesterday at of all places the Dior Homme Boutique at Madison and 57th. I recognized her immediately and felt it so appropriate to being seeing her there. I think she works there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:13 AM) :

Yes, she is Sarah and used to work at Balenciaga:

Very severe, very chic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:54 PM) :

i worked next door to her in the women's boutique. ironically, she was nothing else but pleasant, feminine, and sweet. not at all cold! so nice to catch a familiar face on the site!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 AM) :

Wow!
She looks amazing. She looks entirely unique. Unlike anything I have seen ever before.

Blogger Steve said ... (3:29 AM) :

She does look like an androgynous mannequin. The shot is well executed, but the look is not appealing to me.
She managed to dye her hair to match the beautiful blue of the jacket. That probably wasn't easy.
I don't like the androgynous look in general, and I don't like hair covering a person's eyes, except in a controlled dramatic setup.
Still, she created a unique look which was well captured in the photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 AM) :

I love the haircut

Blogger Haydensophie said ... (1:11 AM) :

She causes some impact...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:17 PM) :

Why is it all so serious. I would love to see models smile more. Fashion is fun. Check out the new "Wink if you Want it" casual line (www.winkifyouwantit.com) - a fusion of clothes, music and fun!

Anonymous MZ said ... (1:23 PM) :

Oh, she is thoroughly sharp.

Blogger Lost. said ... (1:42 AM) :

The girl has a sedated style. It's very different, but she makes it look normal, like everyone's been dressing like that. I like how she carries the look.
