Comments on "How to F*ck With a Classic And Still Look Classic, Milan"
Fair enough, but i would have been happier if he'd skipped the red socks and opted for bare ankles.

I love the aubergine shade of the shoes but
a) not with red socks
b) or on him
They just look 'off' with the suit and also with the personality he seems to have.
It's tricky not to assume too much from these photos - and it's really easy to project a personality on the sitters (standers) but I feel that with the rest of his look (hair, shades) I know exactly what he is about.
For me this outfit, on this man, is a little too studiously 'quirky' and suave-ly (sp?) eclectic to have a truly classic look.
is he wearing red socks also? he looks good, even if he is showing off a bit of man chest
Love the purple shoes!
Love it!
The purple Tod's are very nice indeed.
Unfortunate is the look with Raybans (?) and the too open shirt, which both ruin the possible dandy look.
how chic for a man..lovely.
That's very sexy. Rock 'n' roll gentleman.
But...are those red socks peeking out between the shoe and the pant leng??
Is he the prince Enmanuel Filiberto???..if not, he looks like...
I don't like this at all. He looks like a mid-life crisis. If he wanted to f*ck with a classic, there are lots of other ways to do it.
I think that those driver are Car Shoe ...
Totally!! And only an Italian man can make an open shirt look this sexy.
See what you've done. You got me hot and bothered. *fanning myself*
I think...
this is called
Supreme STYLE!
and Confidence
Love the purple suede Tod's with red socks! Nice twist for what could be a dull look.
Perhaps it's your title or maybe it's the aviators (or the red socks)...this look proclaims "70s porn star" to me.
mltt
Actually those seem to be CarShoes! Common mistake.
I'm on the fence with this one. Like the idea of the shoes (with contrasting sox) better than the reality.
And I still don't get buttoned jackets that reveal belt buckle and fly top. It's inelegant.
my god! his socks are red as far as ı see. In fact,he would be a sexy guy despite his awful way of dressing. Since he is an Italian,we should consider his potential of being sexy. Anyway, it is unbelievable that he is brave enough to wear that purple shoes :S. Definitely it sucks!
I kind of like the combo. It takes real self-confidence for a man to wear purple shoes and not look like a pimp cliche
if those are red socks I like them too
i love this outfit. i find it quite attractive.. from the ankles up. now if these shoes didn't look so slipper like, i think i'd give it a double thumbs-up... even if they were purple.
p.s. i don't mind the red socks, as long as when he sits they aren't obnoxious.
He royally f*cks it up, alright. And comes off as a "try-hard", kitschy but without the irony. It's just too obvious.
I don't know how...but he made it work. I guess it is his good looks and swagger but no ordinary man could pull this off and us still think it has some sense of style. So I say Bravo!
Oh grrr. There's a little shoe shop in Florence that sells suede moccasins and desertboots in all colours of the rainbow. I wanted to buy a purple pair, for just this kind of look, but they didn't have my size.
Maaaaaaaan. I feel so justified - it just makes the outfit *pop*. It does help, of course, that this man is sinfully handsome...
Having difficulty with the red socks alongside the purple shoes. First, the two colours together, and second, that surge of colour isn't present anywhere else on the ensemble. From ankles upwards, it's classic menswear.
Though ALSO I think there is a problem with the shirt collar - it's sort of pressed down inside his jacket. Maybe if he buttoned the shirt higher, then the collar would behave itself...
not feeling the hair. reminds me of matthew mcconaughey's character in dazed and confused. and don't fake like you don't know what i'm talking about, sartorialist readers!
Bravo! Though I don't usually care for "male cleavage" it works for him- spot on!
not with red socks please!
Oh don't hate the playa, hate the game.
Wishing more Yankee men would take some risks, minor as they maybe like. Red socks? - sure! Purple shoes - yes! Hairy chest, Ran Bans? Whatever, let the peacock do his thing!
He looks wonderful, lovr'ing this!
Milan is where I saw a man accentuated with orage buttons on a black shirt, with an orange gatorskin watch band, and orange ostrich skin boots climb out of an orange lamborghini diablo......
I love the shoes with the open shirt. He pulls it off just fine...I wonder if his purple lamborghini is around the corner?
Peace!
The purple Tod's are a Lapo Elkann rip-off. I hope this is not the beginning of a awful trend.
just as its true that my favourite colour is violet, this man is the usual shopkeeper of the nearby via Montenapoleone, but he thinks he's a true artist.
They are Car Shoe shoes
Those purple Tod's -- beautiful, because, IMO, the color is masculine, not effeminate.
I think that you may be drinking the Milanese water Scott, which is not so potable. This is a classic case of something that looks interesting when visiting Italy but just doesn't translate well elsewhere (think mozzarella--emphasis on cheese). I love creativity with menswear, but this just looks too forced and bella figura--even in Italia.
The hair pulls the whole look together
I'd like to get a better look at the guy in the sweater behind. . .
i tried- i really did- but i do not understand this look.
i get that he's probably trying really hard to be different, to throw people off a little bit, but he doesn't do this successfully or with any natural ease. i particularly dislike the way the pants fall over the shoes, the contrast of the silver glean on the sunglasses with the muted color of the suit and the suede texture of the shoes (not to mention the red socks!) and the fact that the purple and red down south do not tie in AT ALL with anything up north- not even necessarily in regard to color- but it could be his statement/message, texture combinations, anything. but there is no unity.
i like his tan and his smile. classic italian looks- its hard not be smitten by it.
quote: "For me this outfit, on this man, is a little too studiously 'quirky' and suave-ly (sp?) eclectic to have a truly classic look"
Exactly - so very Italian - they're a class on their own!
Really love it. Dressy and casual at the same time. And the purple Car Shoe are beautiful (have to get a pair of those next time I fly to Europe; been using them in both apple green and Hermes orange). A new trend? Nothing new actually, it's been around for quite a while. Someone mentionned Lapo Elkann. It remains me of the Avvocate - Lapo's grandfather - the great Gianni Agnelli (Tods with suit).
Cool
mama mia!
f**k in deed: danger and amusment in one package!
Have to say that I like it from the waist up - very early 70's movie star. I'm a total sucker for that Dirty Harry Ray-Ban action, and he's got that down. However, the pants are SLOPPY. Not good at all. If he had planned on that look working in entirety, the pants should be a bit more fitted in the leg, and not so long - way too much break. The shoes, okay, but would be better with different pants.
Got to tell you, Mr. Sartorialist: shoes are not by Tod's, but by Car Shoe,Prada.
Shoes: Santorini Club
Brave shoes! Why not!
