I'm sorry... Karl Lagerfeld still frightens me.
To me, Karl has always looked like a villain out of a fantastic 60's 007-esque movie.
And those gloves!

As for Mr. Lagerfeld's look--well I often feel I'm in the same realm as that of great barbers with lousy haircuts, or brilliant MDs who are also overweight.
Here, however, all is much better, despite all the metal work, tabs, flaps, and so on.
What it comes down to for me is: is there such a thing as age-appropriate dressing, no matter one's (exalted) station in life?

But that woman's shades are way too big, even if they are supposed to look big. They do not math her face-contours at all. But apart from that she looks very chic.

Why do Karl always look exactly the same? Ok, he's stylish, very stylish (hundred times more than my granfather in the same age) but, no, he's just too much of everything. It's always nice when old people wants to follow the young, but he feels like he thinks he's still 20.

wow you found him!! i know that mr. lagerfield takes beaucoup photos, but every time i see one it seems as if the photog had to go on a secret ops mission just to get it...he's very "rogue" i love it!!!!

Well, to carry the ball a bit--or to spin the thread--in response to My Fall Collection's post: yes, I think that there IS such a thing as age-appropriate dress, though goodness knows the idea, once taken for granted, has taken major hits since the 60s.
On the older end of the matter, it seems to me that it boils down to sexual self-enhancement; after a certain age, we must find more subtle and less immediately demonstrative ways of saying that we remain sexual beings. It's a matter of biology: as we age, we droop, we stoop, we sag. So the flesh must dressed differently at 60 than at half that age.
For this reason, I find tight clothing, for example, a no-no post-middle age; Karl evidently disagrees. But, to my eye, he achieves the opposite of what he apparently sets out to do--to look youthful.
Amanda´s eyebrows are a tad overtweezed to me.
Maybe it´s a signature look for her, but I think it ages her innecesarily.
The arch is unreal, and gives her a evil look.
Clotheswise, she´s perfect.
She´s always a bit somber and Cruella-ish.Maybe the evil arch in the brows is a deliberate choice...
Well, there is something in Karl Lagerfeld's face that makes me think about Donatella Versace. Anyway, I don't like this jacket. Maybe it's just the photo, but it makes him look short.
Lagerfeld is such an interesting character. Last week's New Yorker magazine had a story about him, worth checking out.
The glasses are big, but they sit very low. I'm sure her brows look normal without the shades.

Karl Lagerfeld is probably the most well known and recognizable designer in the world and for that, one really does have to respect his work.

We need to lay off that age appropriate thing and have a little fun with fashion no matter what age. I'm 23 and sometimes wear what's considered an older look. And work it, Karl! Love it.
It looks as if Mr. Lagerfeld's weight loss is still working--he looks fabulous!

Um, to spin the thread a little more, re: are you ever too old to wear something, I prefer not having any hard and fast rules, such as tight clothing being a no-no past a certain age. When older people dress young out of a FEAR of aging, it always has the opposite effect. On the other hand, when older people dress as old as they FEEL, be it 18, 38, or 98, it always looks authentic and convincing.
they both look like robots - and that doesn't really work when the sun is shining. I'm sort of surprised to see them in daylight! I'm a sucker for COLOUR and real smiles in the spring/summer especially. They are tres cool though, but borderline eurotrash.. not that there is anything wrong with that!
Karl is just flat out wierd, period, and always has been.
He is not royalty, as he hobnobs with and pretends to be. Why, he puts his black lycra tights on one spindly old man leg at a time just like the rest of us!

KL does whatever he wants, and I am sure he loves people talking about him all the time! Even if they say he is a monster, a vampire, cool, ugly, whatever...
He is BEYOND everything, in a madonna kind of way.
She looks like somebody I would love to have next to me at a dinner party...tres chic and gorgeous in a very aristocratic way. AND I am sure she doesn´t give a damn about anything either.

Karl is the fashion world equivalent of Michael Jackson - an extraordinary talent with a complete lack of awareness of themselves and the world beyond their sycophant-supported bubble.
Lagerfeld's style of dress seems really absurd on him, but no one will ever call him on it. It's not so much age-appropriate as coterie-appropriate. Another man his age, say a butcher or a doctor, who dressed like that would be given a wide berth by all.
Cartoonish is right.
Wether one likes him or not, he has managed to have a uniquely personal look. No one else looks or dresses like him - even though in the last years he takes too many cues from Heidi Slimane. Amanda on the other hand has lost her amazing personal style and looks and became Karl's alter ego - no inspiration there now I'm afraid. When she was with Galliano, she was the perfect muse.
I laughed out loud when I read Landis' opening comment: perfect! And couldn't agree more with sandman_gr: she's lost it for me. The set of her lips is downright frightening.
She looks like she should be invigilating exams somewhere: "You! Spit out that gum! And ask for a pass-out to go to the toilet!"
No regular woman can purse her lips that way or arch her eyebrows to such Olympic levels. Maybe these are skills worthy of a muse's remuneration, I don't know.

Karl Lagerfeld, my all time hero! If anyone embodies the complete nature of power, constant change, and a certain timelessness that is ever apparent, it's him! I have watched his movie countless times and find his "To Hell with you all, I will do what I please" attitude worthy of worship. Although this statement may seem a little off kilter, what I mean by timeless change is he never stops reinventing himself. First we have Chloe, and at the sane time or shortly thereafter Karl Lagerfeld, then he takes over Chanel, and after this he rescues and reinvents countless design houses. He is the most outspoken, most creative designer of our time. I have never thought he receives the accolades he deserves. One slick man!
