Dries Van Noten
So what did you think of Dries?
For me it begins and ends with his collection in Paris.
When looking at the photos on Style.com give each look an extra three points because the colors are even more perfect in person.
He is the one designer that can do a long show (60 something looks) and not have it seem repetitive because each look is its own study of color, shape and texture.
Also ,if you get a chance, take a look at the portraits (with the black background) that I did at the Dries show on Style.com.
They were very difficult to shoot but they turned out very good I think.
the shoe are the softess, pale lilac color that is so perfect with those shades of grey.

post a commentThose portraits of the two women at Dries are great! I love how you captured them in the middle of such real expressions. I also think it's fascinating/great that you've caught two different women in that completly natural state where the hair coming out of their head has more grey than the hair they grew just a year ago. I remember when my Aunt (an ex hippie in Rochester) was at that point, and it looked great - the brownish color bleeding into her clothes, with the white/grey around her face. Both of those women have aspects of that, that would not be captured without your composition.
the brilliance of dries for me has always been his successful marriage of intelligent couture/sportswear making and its marketability. and I think this is, yet again, another fine example of that ... wouldnt u say?
Hey Sart, as I know you are a huge Dries-Fan, do you also wear Dries-clothes? Or do you just like his fashionshows?

I've already finish to wach the dries van noten runaway ..
what I look at are the fit of a garment ,the way that 'stay on'.. probably with my commercial eyes.. so I feel this runaway take off from feminine taste ..
But this could be suggest from my less knowledge of this Stylist.. thank you for your precuis eye

Wow, Sart. I'm a little surprised you liked the Dries so much. For me, most of the silhouettes weren't very flattering to women and didn't move me. Colors were interesting, shoes were horrible.
For my money, the best show so far was Dior. Galliano at his best. But I haven't checked out Wednesday's shows yet.
The shoes look almost orthopedic-did you touch them to say they're soft? They do not look soft. I liked a draped red/brown dress he did and it's repeat grey/silver one. Also a lovely blue/grey embroidered top just before the parka you show in the middle photo, and the long version of the draped dress, in black, at the finale. But the whole collection was drab and
Dries van Noten's work has taught me so many things! He must be the smartest man on the planet. Because im so young i don't even know how to find words to describe his work..But i hope that I one day will become almost as smart as him, and to be able to combine tradition and forward-thinking with such pure elegance as he does!
It was great. Always have to focus on texture and details with Dries. Overall it might have been somber but at least it was all 40s inspired.
The last image - of Masha - is so intense! I want to see more of her.
The collection is gorgeous, however I'm so petite (5'1") that I can never pull off his clothes.
Simple yet not redundant, clean yet directional. Bravo, Dries!

I love, love, love, Dries Van Noten. If I had to pick one and only one designer to wear for the rest of my life - I'd go dancing to the end of my days in Dries. Who else does both masculine and feminine so well?
Style.com gave this season an if-y review...but I disagree. His asthetic is so consistant and his work, lovely and wearable. Sometimes I think reviewers just feel they can't be glowingly positive each season, so the critiques get harsh, but as far as I'm concerned this season is just as wonderful as the last.
i loved the dries collection the sunduded greys with shots of rich vivid golds and greens so breathtaking, i think your shots of the collection do it much more justice than the collection pics on style.com the black background that closes in on the models makes the clothes look like a procession of precious jewels - brilliant work sart!
It was a beautiful show. Even though the review on Style.com was a bad one, I still think it is one of the most interesting so far.
I have to say this collection kinda dissapointed me. I didnt really like the fits or the patterns. Also, the colors seemed a bit off to me. I dont know if this was due to the photography.
I read the style.com review and went back in the archives and looked at S/S 07 then viewed the collection a 2nd time. I did like S/S 07 more because the fabrics were lighter and more joyous, but I like A/W 07 a lot and I love the shoes and think that they look chic (see Teen Vogue Ed in Ch. with yellow windbreaker!!) I sometimes make a visit to Barney's, like it's a petting zoo, to touch and see Dries clothing and others, in person. So many designers charge a fortune for clothng that is not made well and has not so great fabrics up close. Oh man, not Dries! I cannot afford anything but the craftmanship, finishing and oh those fabrics!! Really exciting!
Hussein Chalayan's show was great! He seemed to pick up cues from Balenciaga S/S 07 and run with it.
As usual, it is the intelligence of the collection that is such a stand out -- there are not many designers that combine innovation and really wearable clothing, and even fewer who make things suitable for women of all ages.
As to the details, I love the shoes (except the patent leather versions), but hated the frumpy socks. His palette, as usual, is subtle and completely unique to Dries, and most of it was gorgeous (although I'm really not a fan of those acid yellows and greens).
DvN clothing is always, always distinctive, yet so understated, and so perfect to collect because of the "mixability" and timelessness. I just went back in the style.com archives to DvN Fall 2000, and except for perhaps shortening some of the skirts, one could still wear almost every piece in the collection.
Loved this collection. But why does model no. 3 look like she's been hyp-NO-tized?

I adore Dries, and this collection was no exception. I agree with genx, if I had but one designer to choose (and I had a lot of money) I would be a Dries girl. His clothes are timeless, and appropriate for all ages/body types. I adored the golden section in the middle and his interpretation of paisley. Brilliant!
