Just Hit Milano!

So I just arrived in Milano for the womens collections.
The weather is great, surprisingly warm for Feb.
While I was waiting for the plane in New York I received an email from this woman - Renata Molho, remember her from a recent post?
She wanted to say thanks for the post and for all of the lovely comments.
Well, small world - when I got into Milan I really only had time to buy some magazines before doing todays posts and dinner. I went to the big Emporio Armani on Manzoni because almost everything is closed on Sunday. While I was there I saw a biography on Giorgio Armani titled Essere Armani.
As most of you know, Armani was a huge influence on me when I was young so I have secretly always wanted to write the first book on him.
Anyway, I quickly flipped through the book and was crushed to see that it was in Italian (makes sense).
As I tried to find the publisher or see if there was an English version and came upon this

It's her!! Renata
I was so surprised.
What a small world.
Maybe if I bring the book with me to the shows she can read me a few chapters.

Just got back from Milan. The weather was spectacular. Check out the Margiela 'show' (for lack of a better word) at Corso Como.

The silhouette of the mannequin in the sweater blew me away.

Where did the original post go? For some reason I can't find it... didn't you have two photos of this lovely woman? It's very cool that we should get to know a little more about this person.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 PM) :

I have to say, one of the things I enjoy about your whole blog community is that no one is ever outright rude. Sure, people say something looks to cookie-cutter, they comment on the wrong color, they say they just hate a certain look--but there is never any ridicule and the comments are overwhelmingly positive. I know you must first approve the comments, but really, the politeness and positive attitude is in no small way due to the tone of professionalism you maintain with your blog and community. So congrats on something other than the photography--though that's what makes the blog truly addictive!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 PM) :

I'm sorry, apparently 6:04 pm above was an aberration from the norm....of polite and productive comments.
I love neck scarves, keep it going Mr. Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:21 AM) :

u have gorgeous eyes especially with the scarf and pullover pulling them out. keep it coming with those fabulous pictures!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 AM) :

Hey, you like it when your subjects smile - what about you? Don't be one of those guys who thinks it's unmanly to smile (of course, every photographer I know is one).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:21 AM) :

your best find to date! she actually looks ALOT better and more interesting now than in her earlier years. Great!

By the way, I like the scarf!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:08 AM) :

Sart, with all your hookups, you've probably seen it, but if you haven't, ask the Armani people if you could see "Made in Milan."

For those who don't know, it is a short film that Armani commisioned Martin Scorcese to shoot. Not a strict biography per se, it does cover his background and his philosophy towards design, at least at the time it was filmed (late 80s).

I love her look. Everything is just so perfect and still, it doesn't seem she has put a lot of effort into it. And the ciggaret, the way she holds it... ah it just did for the whole thing!!! Couldn't be any better!

Blogger Mariana de Souza Pinto Freire said ... (2:37 PM) :

P.S - I just have to agree with some people here, yes you do look amazing... the whole blue thing going on, the shape of your face, the scarf, the sweater and last but not least, your eyes... totally hypnotized me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:18 PM) :

serendipitous!

Blogger positively the same dame said ... (6:18 PM) :

i guess there really are no accidents in life. in the meantime while waiting for a translation, whether in print or by the author herself, you might read "The Beautiful Fall" which profiles the lives and careers of yves saint laurent and karl lagerfeld and their nearly life-long rivalry. not about your idol, but an absolutely fascinating and entertaining read nonetheless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:55 PM) :

I think she is fabulous! There is hope for us women of a certain age in the US if we know that women like Renata exist somewhere out in the world. She is a relief from the forced mediocrity of the aging process here in the land of the average. Thank you so much for your site. It has changed my life and my world view. It gives me hope that originality and spirit still exist at any age and that creativity is an asset to be celebrated.

Blogger Model Citzen said ... (10:00 PM) :

this could be the beginning of something lovely...

Blogger Just an Observation said ... (1:04 AM) :

I see you already found one you like...scarf that is. beautiful colors ..looks great!....it's funnny because my Etro scarf is nearly the same color..only lighter and I wear it with my suits or sports coat...I cann't quie make out the pattern on yours ....and i like that yours is longer oo ..allows for the wrapping around the neck and layered looks ... adds to that chic witout effort effect.

Thanks, Always Sar.

p.s. my dad just has been saying the same thing about the weather ...he lives there ...he likes the pleasantness instead of the harsh weathher they would be having now.

BYE!!!

Blogger Ming the Merciless said ... (1:26 AM) :

1. Is that a new paisley scarf?? You've been talking about getting one.

2. You should wear blue more often. It makes your eyes POP!

Blogger FeFe said ... (3:42 AM) :

She is beyond captivating, both in her earlier photo and in the present. She exudes seduction in the most surprising way.

Blogger lala said ... (8:07 AM) :

1. you are not dressed like a 70 yr old
2. i'm sure those blue eyes and that blue scarf wasnt a coincidence ! its like saring into the sea .. somehow
keep up the good work :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 AM) :

Your charm is so needed in this midwestern girl's winter. I am glad you finally got your scarf (blue is your color) and over the moon with your Renata connection. Please keep us posted on this as it develops. Armani needs a successor....why not you!?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

Ohhh The Printed Scarf !!!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

Renata! What an incredible, serendipitous story. I do hope you follow up with her. She seems like a woman who can teach us all how to possess style, not just wear it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

You look fabulous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

viva renata

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:16 PM) :

Those piercing eyes - more Max Von Sydow than Lance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:12 PM) :

I'm so pleased you learned who Renata was, and that who she is justifies your instinct in taking her picture several weeks ago.

I wish you would show us more "women of a certain age" like her who have a great sense of personal style.

Where is the female equivalent of all the well-dressed mature gentlemen you photograph?

I've seen enough of itty-bitty dresses and mini bubble skirts over long legs in tights. And I already know what a head-to-foot Armani princess wears to one of his shows (nice picture, however). I want to see what real women over 35 wear -- those who mix up things from several seasons ago, or vintage, or this from one designer, that from another.

Blogger MARIA H said ... (5:29 PM) :

I knew it!
She has a style that defyies assumptions. LOVE THAT!

Blogger Luciana Malta said ... (6:20 PM) :

oh!, god...

what a scarf...

what a guy... ;))))

always great, s. you're the one.

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:59 PM) :

Blue is very you!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 PM) :

The scarf is wonderful.
Renata = my idol. She's so elegant and nonchalant at the same time, which is so rare these days. Everyone seems to be trying so hard.

Blogger lenas said ... (6:22 AM) :

Age??
Certain age???
Who cares .
You attract what you project.
At any age.
If you´ve got something to project.
Act don´t react.
All of you: Be YOU !!!!

Blogger Zaydoun said ... (12:55 PM) :

Born in Asmara too... Is it me or are the world's most interesting people always born away from their original country??

(Asmara is the capital of Eritrea. A former Italian colony!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:38 PM) :

Lenas:
Age?? Certain age???

I think you misunderstood.

The French have a lovely, subtle expression for a mature woman: Rather than be so blunt and intrusive as to speculate about whether she is in her 40s or 50s, or more, they say she is "Une femme d'une certaine age". I believe the phrase is most often used to suggest that age does not matter when a woman is attractive. I don't think it loses anything in the translation, and Renata is a good example of someone it might be said about.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 PM) :

I think I have a crush on your sart. it's the blue eyes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 AM) :

Her name is familiar, she writes regularly for L'Uomo Vogue.

Blogger Disneyrollergirl.net said ... (3:55 PM) :

What a great story. I have spent the last 3 weeks reading your archive and am nearly finished - phew! It's been so nice reading your progress. What I like about this blog:
*The photos
*Being inspired by real people style
*Your observations
*How inevitably one of the posters will ID a subject, or the subject themselves will post a comment
*How posters comment on each other's posts (usually in a polite way) and sometimes give each other advice
*Discovering other bloggers through their comments on your blog

Keep it coming Sart, you're an original...
