Just Hit Milano!
So I just arrived in Milano for the womens collections.
The weather is great, surprisingly warm for Feb.
While I was waiting for the plane in New York I received an email from this woman - Renata Molho, remember her from a recent post?
She wanted to say thanks for the post and for all of the lovely comments.Well, small world - when I got into Milan I really only had time to buy some magazines before doing todays posts and dinner. I went to the big Emporio Armani on Manzoni because almost everything is closed on Sunday. While I was there I saw a biography on Giorgio Armani titled Essere Armani.
As most of you know, Armani was a huge influence on me when I was young so I have secretly always wanted to write the first book on him.
Anyway, I quickly flipped through the book and was crushed to see that it was in Italian (makes sense).
As I tried to find the publisher or see if there was an English version and came upon this

I was so surprised.
What a small world.
Maybe if I bring the book with me to the shows she can read me a few chapters.

Love the scarf Sart!
Just got back from Milan. The weather was spectacular. Check out the Margiela 'show' (for lack of a better word) at Corso Como.
The silhouette of the mannequin in the sweater blew me away.

I have to say, one of the things I enjoy about your whole blog community is that no one is ever outright rude. Sure, people say something looks to cookie-cutter, they comment on the wrong color, they say they just hate a certain look--but there is never any ridicule and the comments are overwhelmingly positive. I know you must first approve the comments, but really, the politeness and positive attitude is in no small way due to the tone of professionalism you maintain with your blog and community. So congrats on something other than the photography--though that's what makes the blog truly addictive!

Sart, with all your hookups, you've probably seen it, but if you haven't, ask the Armani people if you could see "Made in Milan."
For those who don't know, it is a short film that Armani commisioned Martin Scorcese to shoot. Not a strict biography per se, it does cover his background and his philosophy towards design, at least at the time it was filmed (late 80s).

i guess there really are no accidents in life. in the meantime while waiting for a translation, whether in print or by the author herself, you might read "The Beautiful Fall" which profiles the lives and careers of yves saint laurent and karl lagerfeld and their nearly life-long rivalry. not about your idol, but an absolutely fascinating and entertaining read nonetheless.
I think she is fabulous! There is hope for us women of a certain age in the US if we know that women like Renata exist somewhere out in the world. She is a relief from the forced mediocrity of the aging process here in the land of the average. Thank you so much for your site. It has changed my life and my world view. It gives me hope that originality and spirit still exist at any age and that creativity is an asset to be celebrated.

I see you already found one you like...scarf that is. beautiful colors ..looks great!....it's funnny because my Etro scarf is nearly the same color..only lighter and I wear it with my suits or sports coat...I cann't quie make out the pattern on yours ....and i like that yours is longer oo ..allows for the wrapping around the neck and layered looks ... adds to that chic witout effort effect.

I've seen enough of itty-bitty dresses and mini bubble skirts over long legs in tights. And I already know what a head-to-foot Armani princess wears to one of his shows (nice picture, however). I want to see what real women over 35 wear -- those who mix up things from several seasons ago, or vintage, or this from one designer, that from another.

I think you misunderstood.
The French have a lovely, subtle expression for a mature woman: Rather than be so blunt and intrusive as to speculate about whether she is in her 40s or 50s, or more, they say she is "Une femme d'une certaine age". I believe the phrase is most often used to suggest that age does not matter when a woman is attractive. I don't think it loses anything in the translation, and Renata is a good example of someone it might be said about.
