After reading some of the comments on this post yesterday, I see the reactions were very mixed.
And I know I’ve said it before, but I still think that people too often judge a look as a total "Yes!" or "No!"
Which really misses the point of most of the photos.
When I look at this shot, I never get past the little detail section that I've added today.
I love that combo of patterns and solids. Plus, the silk scarf, wool coat and suede jacket are so texturally rich.
Try to consider most of the shots in a slightly abstract way. I rarely shoot anything that I like as a whole head-to-toe look, but if I can get a little something, then it’s up to me how I use it. This strategy allows me to open my eyes and not worry about who, what and/or where.
And isn’t that what it’s all about?
That this man is Alan Flusser is secondary to me. Honestly, I just couldn't think of a pithy title for the shot, so I just used his name.

Wow, fantastic scarf!
I love the classic coat - maybe he bought it yesterday, or maybe he's had it since the 60's....He doesn't look like he's trying to BE any thing, just classic and tasteful. This is why I will take Style over Fashion any day.
And more "diesel/missoni" styles photos. Missing that in your blog. You already have a fan in Chile. Have a good week. (Here is so hot anyway).

Well, the overcoat and color-pattern mixing is quite brilliant. I'm not so sure the jacket beneath isn't a bit long, however, ditto the jeans, to which I'd give another--or deeper--turn-up....

Those textures and colors are just beautiful. I'm afraid if I saw him in person I wouldn't be able to stop myself from touching the scarf and the coat just for the richness of it.

I love the way all the colors and textures are mixed together...but...the clothes do not fit him that well...I have seen pictures of him in suits...with his physique he looks better in a suit...just my $0.02
what is going on? are we all unwittingly wittnessing the demise of The Sart's site? The truly cool people are becoming rarer, being replaced by fuddy duddies....I just don't get it, this character is laughable in his garb

Don't listen to the style hounds, the eyes of this gent have it! He could make a burlap sack look appealing. Besides, 'cool' people are sometimes so trend-triggered and eager to be better-than, they never take the time to develop inner qualities. Certaintly not this gent's problem. Don't doubt yourself mon chere...
To anon 12:30, seems to me you've set up a false dichotomy: on the one hand "cool people," and on the other, "fuddy duddies."
Not all young people are cool, and not all old or older people are, as you seem to imply, fuddy duddies.
One point of this site, as I see it, is to make people look beyond media imagery, usually based on the wish to sell something to a most-monied demographic. Style is ageless. In other words, I don't think Scott's in the business of holding a mirror up to youth, in which it can preen.

I love the detail obsession on this site. After month of reading The Sartorialist, obsessively I might add, I find I look at outfits more and judge less. Rejoicing in small things makes me a happier person.
In response to the comments recieved about my 'fuddy duddies' statement. I hope I wasn't misunderstood. Sart, your most memorable, genuine shoots are of mature people. Fantastic1 all the more convincing, but that geezer was just all wrong for me...I'm not talking labels at all, in fact I'm a rather mature bloke myself!
so playful. there's something warm about him. yes, he's smiling but there's something more and it's communicated in his choice of colours/textures. rightly said, sartorialist. personality in the clothes!
Alan Flusser is an award-winning menswear designer, and if he is content with the length of his jacket and his jeans, and comfortable dressing this way to attend a fashion show, maybe we should pay attention to what this suggests.
Mr. Flusser's mix of colors and patterns is masterful and confident, and the picture suggests he has a sense of humor about it all. He exemplifies what Sart is trying to convey about the essence of real Style -- that it is not just about this moment's trends in fashion, this length or that, tight or loose, but rather about personal expression. True style takes a deep knowledge of the elements of design, a perfected sense of what works for the body one inhabits, and a finely honed sensibility about the social context.
It also helps not to take it all too seriously, and from the look on Mr. Flusser's face, he isn't guilty of that. Bravo, sir; you look terrific!
This is a lovely shot. Why try to pick it all apart? This man is beautiful here; he looks like a full person. Sometimes only experience has the strength and seasoning to complement a style. To me this picture is inspirational and magical: wonderful colors, subject, and composition.
