Comments on "At Etro"
i am LOVING those gloves! and that overcoat fits him perfectly!
Amazing...the style, the pose...thos yellow gloves!!! He looks like a comic character to me.
that MAY just be the coolest photo I've ever seen on this site... wow! Who cares about French chic - those Italians have got it going on....
The picture of coolness.
Gorgeous outfit, very classic and yet contemporary. I'm in love!
Compliments to your blog, it's an inspiration.
Love from Marzipanus in Sweden
THE YELLOW GLOVES
whoa! isn't this Alessandro "Kalashnikov" Calascibetta, the hardest-working and fastest-rhyming stylist in Milanese fashion! he is the fashion director of Style magazine, Italy's coolest men's rag and the Corriere della Sera's very own lifestyle monthly. definitely one of the most fashion-forward guys in Milan, in this picture Ale does his famous Marlboro Mickey Mouse impression. Those yellow gloves are as cool as it gets this winter: you have to wear something like that around here, where only the sharpest survive. way to go, Sart!

A striking pose
Mr Yellow Gloves
has an air of....
from his tailored black crombie slung over country tweed
to his raggedy hemmed white jeans
Yep and air of...
Dear Sartorialist,
I just wanted to say that after discovering your blog a few weeks ago it has become a firm favourite of mine and has inspired me to wear my clothes in different and more unique ways.
I think you are doing a geat job, I am very interested in fashion and style and wish to finish a book about It i started a couple of years ago about style in every facet of peoples lives, including such people as Deeda Blair, Hubert de Givinchy and The Duchess of Devonshire who I unterviewed, but universtity rather got on top of me so it has been put on the back burner! Am only 22 so have many years to finish it! David
Dunno why, but I somehow like the idea of the yellow gloves. What a misterious look he got with them on...

I _love_ all the peekaboo colours showing up on your sweet streets... first those teal socks and now these rad gloves. Touché....
The look is too studied...
Though I admire the color play/co-ordination, and the coat length, this doesn't quite add up for me. The jacket seems skimpy, and the white jeans (or "jeans") with cut-off hems, well, just aren't my cup of tea....
@ if i see that jacket hanging on a rack i would never have thought it possible to pair it with white pants and accessorize it with yellow leather gloves ! but on this man he looks epicly handsom hehe if that makes sense .. @
i don't know why but i love this, but i've actually seen something very similar before. I was on a train in London and saw a very smart dressed man with a navy coat and beige scarf but with hot pink gloves on, something very cool and quirky about it.
That's normally my favourite colour of yellow, but these strike me as a little 'Marcel Marceau' in combo with the rest of the outfit, which is quite nice.
The shot itself is really cool.
It's like that old Saturday Night Live parody about Antonio Banderas: "NO!!! Is too sexy!!!"
mltt
The yellow gloves with the white trousers combo is so cool. I like that he's looking off to his right, and has those verging-on-mutton-chops sideburns.
I swear, Italian men have such an innate sense of style unlike any other. Who would have thought yellow gloves would look so cool. Again, if only he weren't smoking.
A touch of spring those yellow gloves give me!
wow! the yellow gloves + the attitude really make it. and it makes sense at Etro
Ultra-masculine look. The yellow gloves are fantastics.
people who can dress in clothes which normally would look rather "confused" but look well put together on them amaze me every time.
Love those gloves!
Looks like he is wearing Playtex gloves at first. But hey, he's cool.
I like what he's done w/ the layering.
The yellow gloves add a splash of color and he's a cool dude..but it doesn't quite work for me.
Somebody knows his fashion history:

Weeze
That splash of color really makes a big difference. I've been seeing a lot more use of colorful accessories to make all black or neutral outfits more interesting. He looks great!
I think this might be my favortie photo of the year so far. He reminds me of a modern day Mr. Rochester.
it may work, but the gloves scream "man ready to clean toilet." could just be my bias because of my mom's bright yellow rubber gloves for deep cleaning.
I love the yellow gloves against the conservative outfit. Gives the flair to the whole look.
On another note, has anybody seen the new Etro spring jacket? I really love the colorful banner linings and the little detail on the collar. It buttons across like a horse riding jacket. Just a random thought when I looked at the "At Etro" heading.
I love the yellow gloves, it adds, as Micheal Kohrs said "a sense of humor to the outfit."
Oh no, he looks like a plumber or trash collector with his big yellow gloves. Also cannot bring myself to like white pants in winter. Perhaps that is because I live in a climate of 6 months´ snow every year. I like to see the lower part of people walking on the snow as well!
Based on your recent photos, distinctively colored gloves are de rigeur in Europe. Don't know if I can get away with it in NYC.
reminds of an old-time captain in the royal navy--just needs the 'flat hat'.
I love his look, but hate those gloves. Normally I love splashes of color but that just doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's the material?
I love his whole look except for the gloves. Normally I really love it when people add a splash of color but this doesn't seem to work. I think they remind me too much of my mom's gardening gloves.
i LOVE yellow right now and am so excited it's making a comeback
is it just me, or is green so-yesterday?
I don't know if his clothes are wrong or right but let me just gush here: "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah and yeah."
Great-looking man, and great photo.
Yeah!
more of the winter white!
sart do u recommend classic white levis?
If I am correct, those would be work gloves, the sort used for heavy labor and outdoors, thus making them very practical, as well as a cool way to use color.
so cool I love color!
Kinda agree with Anonymous 12:41 - good on him for the pop of colour, but those gloves and their particular fit do make me think, "Now where's that bleach?"
Love the outfit, otherwise - and his atti-tood.
fabulous gloves! just superb.
wow, just so freaking chic and sexy if i might add.
bravo
I can't put my finger on the reason why, but I think this may be my favourite Sartorialist shot yet. And that's saying something.
Immaculate style.
Yellow Gloves....I love it!!! I was talking about bright hues just a while ago [with a few of my friends], I totally love it!!!
I like the look, but the gloves are too much. Unless he was dressed for Mardi Gras!!
Scott, this is my *favorite* men's shot you've ever taken. I don't know what it is about this guy - his nonchalant stance, the white jeans, the great timeworn (but seriously sexy) looks or the yellow gloves - but he just sends me. You posted this a while ago and I printed it out and put it on my bulletin board, I was that captivated.
I'm not feeling the gloves at all. Like some other posters, I did have a thought of cleaning gloves at first glance. But, otherwise, a very cool outfit.
Ok this man is dressed very well, but that pose and the cigarette do me in. Hot.
This man looks like he could share a nice cup of tea with you one minute...and then beat the piss out of you in the next.
This guy looks so much like Ian McShane (from Deadwood).
The outfit is fantastic overall, but I agree with those who didn't like the gloves.
I either like a man willing to pose or despise a man willing to pose. This, I like.
Good pose, nice glove which has enlighten the whole look. Oh.. and the cigarette. I like those pictures that you took, with cigarette in their hand :p Not to say it's good to smoke, but it just add credits to their look.
so! damn! sexy! LOVE the yellow leather gloves. mmm.
The other day I put on my white jeans - which I NEVER wear in winter - and decided I was gonna try it with a shirt, v-neck, blazer and scarf... sunny winter day attire.
I got to the door, took one last look in the mirror, panicked and ran back to change into regular dark blue jeans.
I'm such a coward! But I promise I'll try it again before winter's over... Maybe off white/cream jeans? No? Oh alright... white it is!
The first things I thought of were the rubberised gloves people wear in fish plants.
Oh well.
this guy is SO rugged looking, yet so put together and dapper. it's nice to see a "manly man" with some style.
Wrap him up please, and send him to me. I will pay postage.
he's hot!! he's strong and very manly!! beautiful coat - love the whole look! the yellow gloves are delightful!
Haha The Marlboro Mickey mouse is the best way to describe it...and than it seems almost impossible to wear white pants in winter...but on that outfit they just look fantastik! He is for sure a candidate for the sartorial price!
One of the best styles this year! He looks great! He juxtaposes textures and colors so intelligently, it blows my mind! Please more photos of him!
Very masculine. A+
What a MAN. His stance - like a statue. His clothes daring and classic. Grrr! Viva Italia!
He looks so sexy and confident. Great outfit and that dash of yellow. Italian men have such style!
THE EUROPEAN DANDIES, BEAU BRUMMEL AND OTHERS, WORE YELLOW GLOVES TO AVOID NICOTINE OF THEIR CIGARS DYE THEIR FINGERS.
SART, I DO LOVE YOUR BLOG.
It's all about the pose and the confidence.
Very stylish, the overcoat makes this look. Pale jeans worn well are great, these are. The scarf is also a good touch. Not sure about the colour of the gloves though.
