I agree. The size of the pattern works. The shape of the coat also helps to balance her figure. Maybe I would have colorful tights or gloves.
Simply beautiful, there's not much else to say.
This silhouette is perfect! And she has such a radiant glow.
I mostly like the outfit, but the scale seems off for her. She's tiny and I think her knees are actually larger than her thighs, which is emphasized by her outfit. And then there's that huge scarf again Sart. :)
She totally looks like Sarah Jessica Parker, or is it me?? Wow, I am a little worried that she is so thin, but a very nice take on the houndstooth coat indeed.

The print is a take on the original houndstooth pattern. I think it looks great. It is hugely coming back in style. BUT her legs... Her legs look like my arms and they are wrapped in black tights. I would be afraid to see those limbs sans hose. Gosh...what is going on with these girls!?!

Have you thought about shooting outside of Conde Nast? you would get some GREAT shots there.

She looks like a gorgeous ad for a Sydney department store: David Jones. The herringbone pattern is their logo.
There are those who can carry off large patterns with ease. There are those who can't.
Here is an example of one who can.
The girl is extremely pretty and the coat - although so characteristic - doesn't dominate her but accentuates personality. I love it! :)
I don't usually like to comment on people's sizes but I do hope she plans to eat a little more in 2007. Other than that (and I do apologize for that), she looks really, really fabulous.

She is beautiful and pulls off her style perfectly - coat, scarf, boots, makeup - a class act. But the contrast to her extremely, extremely skinny legs is almost too brutal for my liking. Is this a look that appeals more to women than to men?

I actually find it disgusting that posters feel they have the right to criticise her weight ... if she was overweight nobody would dare state that she should lose a few pounds so how the hell can anyone say, "I do hope she plans to eat a little more in 2007" ... this blog is about fashion, not about critiquing peoples weight - you don't know anything about this girl ... think before you judge.
Fabulous well balanced well put together look. Love the huge houndstooth coat. But like many others here I also worry about her obvious emaciation. Too thin is not good.
In Sweden, these coats are sold EVERYWHERE, Zara, H&M, VeroModa, GinaTricot - which is all the cheap chain stores. There are also dresses, tops, cardigans, hats, everything in that big houndstooth pattern. Of course I grabbed a coat when it first came out. But now I am sooo sick of it! Would never ever wear my coat.
And yes, It looks like that girl has to put all her energy into standing up straight. Take it from someone who looks and does the same.

In response to Anonymous who posted at 5:41 a.m., I have to admit that when I first commented on this look yesterday, I also made mention of this young woman's thin sticks and how she obviously needs to eat a sandwich. But I immediately regretted it when I realized that a) one of my closest friends is easily as thin as the girl shown here and she eats about 4 times what I do - she's just naturally skinny with a fast metabolism - and I know how it cheeses her off when everyone assumes she's got an eating disorder and b) another friend was photographed for the Sartorialist earlier in the week and told me how hurt she was by the insensitive comments people posted about her facial expression, looks, etc. and that had she known her photo was going to be posted on a public website where anyone could comment on it, she would never have agreed to pose. Both of which make me feel compelled to remind people - myself included - that many of the people shown here do, indeed, read the site, so erring on the side of kindness (or at least tactfulness - and again, I am as guilty of being snarky as the next person) is probably the wiser - and nicer - thing to do. The problem is, the whole point of this site is to showcase and then disseminate people's style and fashion sense, and a person's height/weight/bearing, etc. does play into all of that, especially in the case of a photo like this, where it is all about proportion, and the proportions are so extreme. I'm not sure if there's a solution, but I just wanted to bring it up, as it would be a shame if people stopped agreeing to be shot for the site because they were worried they'd get slagged off by strangers.
Houndstooth is the new black. Love.

I think it's admirable that you came back on & re-posted ... It's so easy to critique people especially when it comes to weight ... we now seem to live in the anti-thin world these days ... I love this blog but whenever someone thin is fetaured on it they get ripped apart whether male or female ... i work in the fashion industry & many of my friends are models - male & female ... if you're a 20 year old female pushing 6ft - chances are you're going to be super skinny ... this doesn't mean you have an eating disorder ... i'm super thin & probably eat more than any other person i know .... i think people have to realise that thin DOES NOT equal eating disorder / body issues ... this is america, so surely we are all free to look how we please .... thin or overweight!
one last thing - a couple of my friends have bn featured on here ... the last one being back in summer ... although the comments were pretty nice, he (yes, he) got slated for being to thin ... remember - the ppl who are photographed read this site so maybe some ppl have to be a bit more tactful ... criticise clothing - fine! criticising weight - not fine!
Second tilt at a comment that might get posted, given the debate on this thread:
I think her thinness is emphasized by the large houndstooth, the cut of the coat, huge scarf, the gap between the leather of the boots and her legs, and her hair pulled back like a ballerina (maybe she is a ballerina; might explain her ectomorphism). So, I think the proportions are off for someone of her body-type; something that was perhaps nipped at the waist and fuller over the hips (peplum jacket, fuller skirt, soft, round shoulders and colours) might be really flatter her. She has a beautiful smile, though; always the best accessory.
And I agree with Anon 9:48 a.m. who wrote "the whole point of this site is to showcase and then disseminate people's style and fashion sense, and a person's height/weight/bearing, etc. does play into all of that,"
One more thought: people who appear on this site do gain a little credibility as 'stylish'just by virtue of having been photographed by Scott. Stylish comes in all shapes, sizes and colours, but we'd be kidding ourselves if we pretended that there isn't a real debate in the fashion world, and now increasingly in the mainstream media, about extreme thinness as a model/prerequisite for beauty and glamour (if she is a ballerina, this is also a live issue in the dance world), so I think some circumspection and comment, for that matter, should be considered allowable and appropriate here.

ok, i've been friends with this girl for a long time and first of all: you look gorgeous, sweetie! (and yes, she does look that fashionable and fabulous on a daily basis!) secondly: this shouldn't be a forum about her weight. she's a ballerina, she takes good care of herself and she looks amazing!
I also think it is great that fashion 60 re-posted.
I often have a tough time deciding what posts to moderate but I often let some posts that are a bit controversial get posted b/c I think it creates a great discussion and I'm very proud that the discussions are usually very tastefully done.
I am also glad that we police ourselves a bit and we almost always get to hear two sides of an issue
finally I agree that we have to be aware that a very high percentage of the people I shoot end up seeing the post - we should be mindful of that.
lets not make the comments personal.

Did it occur to everyone who thinks she is way to scinny, that it might be natural?? She might have a very fast metabolism, as I do. Perhaps she is a model a needs to walk everywhere and stress to go to work and castings.. Would you comment on someone beeing to fat?..
Apart from this, she actually pulls of a pattern that I'm sick of. I've sen it to much. But she looks amazing. :)

Well, when I'm wrong I like to own up to it.
On this same note, I think it's ironic that everyone is commenting on this woman's size (too thin) and I've seen other posts on today's photo of the woman from Miami (with geometric bag/asymmetrical skirt) criticizing her for choosing a skirt that makes her thighs look too big. We really just can't win with this body image thing, can we? I feel like everyone in our society is so conflicted about this issue.
So, she is a dancer. Ballet, her friend says.
I dated a girl from NYC Ballet once upon a time. One of the healthiest women I ever met. I can still see her in a bikini, in my mind's eye. Unforgettably beautiful. The gods smiled on me when they brought her into view.
No wonder this girl looks like a healthy and happy animal. All those classes and rehearsals everyday, doing what she loves with her body, while she can. So her job demands and keeps her thin...and strong, agile, graceful, and smiling too.

And her proportions: wondferful. Beautiful.
If I were a ballerina, I would play up my ballerina-ness, as she has. Her coat is covetable; the way she has thrown the large scarf over her shoulder is chic; and her legs are adorable!!!
Large scarves: they are warmer, and easier to manipulate.
Largeness on petite proportions: skinny doesn't mean petite, and skinny and tall together is gorgeous. People shouldn't be afraid to emphasize their traits as opposed to trying (hopelessly) to make them "blend in."
She is a beautiful young lady, concerned about how thin she really is under all those top layers! Her legs are a sure indicator that the rest of her body could be in some severe malnourishment state.
Perhaps, we should be less concerend about what one is saying about our "fashion sense" and pay more attention to the needs of our physical being! She looks like she needs to spend some of the dollars she is spending on fashion and use it instead on good nutritional choices/health care.
