Looks like a young poet..

Blogger Butch said ... (9:57 AM) :

Peacoats....how they come and go, mixing memory with...well, not quite desire.

His is a fine example of the breed, though I'm not convinced it works totally with the rest of the outfit.

(Do like his hair, too.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

Now that is a nice pea coat! I have been looking for one for ages, but all the ones I have seen are boxy and frumpy.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (10:09 AM) :

Oh how dashing! Very tailored, very rugged up for the cool weather, very nice!!

Blogger SuMisura said ... (10:14 AM) :

Sart,

That's an impeccable peacoat, is it pringle of Scotland?

Details on the coat woudl be much appreciated.

Great shot.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:18 AM) :

THIS is how you do monochromatic... layered and in many different subtle shades!!

Everything is working here. I love the slicked back hair.

This is the style I try to achieve... a balance between style and classicism. This man can look back at this picture 50 years from now and it will still be stylish.

A true classic!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:45 AM) :

Very handsome.

Is it possible to go to your tailor and ask to have a peacoat (or any wool overcoat) taken in? Didn't know this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 AM) :

Looks a little tight, a little fussy...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

Incredible look. I love all black. The coat rock. Uber dashing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

the hair, coat and scarf work together very well...The large volumes of the scarf and coat balance the tidiness of the hair. He has a very defined style, that is pretty respectable...to much perhaps.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:23 AM) :

Very dapper!!! Love his hair too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 AM) :

Love all the blues! The shoes, however, need a proper shining.

BTW, I love to see boys fussing with their hair but not going TOO overboard.

mltt

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 AM) :

I have to ask you, how do you approach those you photograph? And what are their reactions?

Blogger Three Repute said ... (12:01 PM) :

the pants and boots are what got me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:12 PM) :

Prince Charming

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:16 PM) :

what is it about pea coats that is so appealing? you see them in various permutations every winter season, year in and year out, and they always look fresh and modern. i have a black '70s vintage calvin klein 3/4-length jacket with a napoleon-type collar that looks as current today as it did when it was made. of course they can look frumpy if cheaply made or badly cut -- the calvin is quite snug through the shoulders and bust with high armholes and narrow sleeves, which is what i believe makes it so timeless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:16 PM) :

beautifully done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

Yes, please... tell us who makes this coat, if you know.

I love the exaggerated lapels.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 PM) :

Almost too put together for me. . .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM) :

nick!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:37 PM) :

Is there anything more perfectly masculine as a well-tailored pea coat? He looks fantastic. Timeless, sophisticated, modern and warm. Love it.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (12:40 PM) :

like the hair.

Blogger Richie Designs said ... (12:43 PM) :

Hot damn I love a well dressed guy!

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (12:47 PM) :

That is so lush-looking . . . I just want to touch all the fabrics. His hair is so old-school, too, which is . . . refreshing?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:32 PM) :

This is what new yorkers wear when they actually mean "I <3 NY"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:50 PM) :

pure perfection.

brilliant!

Blogger Max said ... (2:32 PM) :

Oh WOW. Perfect, all of it.

Blogger Fine Haberdashery said ... (2:37 PM) :

Perfection. Being able to dress like this on a typical day is why we live in New York City!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 PM) :

I really like the exaggerated collar.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:42 PM) :

I'm pretty sure that's a Gucci pea coat from the Autumn/Winter 2005 collection.

Blogger YFYF.org said ... (4:44 PM) :

A little monochromatic, but great proportions.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:04 PM) :

my grandfather used to look like this

Blogger Cláudia [ACV] said ... (6:57 PM) :

His composeur rhymes perfectly with what he his wearing. Beautifully done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:41 PM) :

He looks fantastic!

And I love the hair. It makes him look very F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Blogger Athena said ... (10:55 PM) :

I love coats. I love menswear too so it's perfect. Even if I am a girl, I want this. Not a bad looking bloke either.

Blogger Bobble Bee said ... (10:59 PM) :

You're such a great photographer. im always amazed by the incredible empathy between you and the people you photograph. They look so relax.. no forgetting that some "stranger" is asking them for a pic in the middle of the street.. And you choose the best of the locations to place them. Again, as always, chapeau.

Blogger DK said ... (11:26 PM) :

I agree totally with Jeff. You hit the nail on the head.

To Butch, why wouldn't you think that this works well with the outfit?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:53 AM) :

I absoultely love that pea coat. It is amazing. He looks so stylish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 AM) :

I love peacoats. Especially tailored ones. And so practical in cold weather.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 AM) :

oh, i love everything about this outfit, especially that this gentleman looks as if he walked out of a past era.

Blogger Butch said ... (8:55 AM) :

Well, d-kay, when I first scanned the photo, I saw an essentially conservative "underneath" topped by a rather casual and rather eccentric--the Ming-the-Merciless collar upturn--top, and that gave me pause.

But upon reflection, I see that the tonal similarity, outside to within, carries the day--that the look IS "whole." So I now bow to your sense of it....

Blogger Solomon Animashaun said ... (11:50 AM) :

Excellent style!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 PM) :

He's handsome. :)

Blogger Anonymous said ... (3:18 PM) :

Blogger in defense of retail therapy said ... (3:26 AM) :

not worth having a pea coat unless it looks like this. it's about time someone flaunted the exaggerated collar. he looks good and he knows it.

Blogger smimmons said ... (6:47 PM) :

RL Purple Label (he's an employee)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 AM) :

He looks so much like two gentlemen that I know that I did a quadruple-take. Nice to know there's third one out there.
