Such a well-heeled couple. so sharp! L:OVE her coat!

Blogger Alessandro said ... (8:29 AM) :

Probably one of my favourite Sartorialist pics to date; what a gorgeous colour story!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:36 AM) :

I love New York City. That is all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 AM) :

The look of the man is simply shockingly elegant!! Beatiful navy two botton suit, amazing hat, perfect!!!...
I really don't like the color of the woman's coat, that's too much...and do not really matchs with the fantastic (and simple) elegance of the man!!
I think that this picture shows everyone that elegance is a matter of basic (and classic) elements.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:46 AM) :

Wow! Throwback!

They both look fabulous.

This is a beautiful -- and surprisingly timeless -- shot.

Blogger blackbird said ... (8:54 AM) :

she doesn't look too shabby either...

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:02 AM) :

Ah, yes. This once again proves that classic elegance is always in style! Love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

I absolutely loove this picture! Great eye Sart. They both look so elegant. Well pressed suit, polished shoes, perfect knotted tie and hat paired with the wonderful color of the woman's coat against the blue grey suit is perfect.
The couple even has an elegant pose. Great picture!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 AM) :

I disagree with Maverik. The womans coat really make her brown reddish hair glow. It also matches her "boyfriends" outfit in a exiting way.

Blogger Butch said ... (9:16 AM) :

This is wonderful--the sum, the two together, greater perhaps than the individual parts, but each very pleasing indeed.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:39 AM) :

Just lovely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 AM) :

What a great looking couple. I *LOVE* the color of her coat next to his suit (and her hair). It's part of why you notice the suit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

Timeless is right! This picture is a beautiful portrait of these two people and an example of simple elegance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:04 AM) :

So stylish, and they look like they're in love, having a blast. I really love her coat, esp. with his suit.

Blogger Francois said ... (10:16 AM) :

Reminds me of John Cheever stories, martinis, commuter train...

Blogger fashion in theory said ... (10:19 AM) :

i don't mind the lady's coat at all actually - i enjoy the fact they're not dressed head to toe black.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:25 AM) :

The fact that they both look happy has a lot to do with the lovely vibe of the picture.

Blogger Stratos Bacalis said ... (10:25 AM) :

They look amazing! Style and elegance BIG time! I disagree with maverick:the color of the coat looks great and contrasts well with the more serious blue of the gentleman's suit. It is this juxtaposition of color that makes this look unique and classy. Otherwise it would be boring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 AM) :

I just love them both. Not just the fashion (which is gorgeous) ... but they look so happy! What a great shot.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (10:39 AM) :

I LOVE her coat! And her smile, on his arm. They look good together.

Blogger in defense of retail therapy said ... (10:40 AM) :

this gets 5 gold stars. he gets 5 alone. the smiles are priceless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

Old money...love it

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

Timeless class.

Blogger gneh-snah said ... (10:56 AM) :

hey, love it..thats a very sweet couple and good shot

Blogger MARIA H said ... (11:57 AM) :

It looks like the photo campaingn for Kate Spade something arround 3 years ago: A familly reunion where color, style, and refinement were the "family values". By the way she is going totally agnes b with her advertisment.

Blogger S. said ... (12:07 PM) :

Love it! Style is not only for the young. I hope to wear it like a second skin as I age.

Blogger Just an Observation said ... (12:17 PM) :

Overrall very charming ..Love to see couple dressed up and spending time together...something very romantice about that.

However I would rethink the color of the coat considering her hair colorother the style and fit is very nice.

Thanks as always!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:21 PM) :

Classicccccccccccc!

Blogger KatDee said ... (12:47 PM) :

I love this picture; I think it shows the contrast between a time when everyday life had a certain structure and formality to it - no well-dressed man ever left the house without a hat. Very nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 PM) :

Brings back some very fond memories of a great aunt and uncle ... thanks!

They're both fabulous. I initially thought the lady's coat & hair didn't match, but it's growing on me.

The real clincher is his hat! That is totally reminiscent of my great uncle, and of the men of his generation to wear that sort of hat without thinking about it or making an effort; it's just natural. It's a blast from our stylish past!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:37 PM) :

They are fabulous. He is saying something to her and it has such a nice effect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

I think that the colour of her coat is a bit bright for her skin. That said, the fact that she looks so good is perhaps a reflection of the fact that one doesn't necessarily need to stick with the limited set of colours that always suit us. What a revolutionary thought! - UK in US

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:13 PM) :

Very charming. I can only hope that I will be as elegant as they are when I reach their age.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 PM) :

I think Maverick is wrong about the woman's coat. It sets off her hair and considering it looks like a greyish day, the coat has a snap that is perfectly suited to the grey or is that a steel blue suit on the gentleman. Now if the coat were red or white, that would be a bore. She probably has a black one and a grey one in her closet. But it's all context and the woman wonderfully autumnal.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:49 PM) :

What a great pic. I feel happy in all my body when looking at it. More please.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:29 PM) :

Sart, you nailed the meaning of sophistication in this shot.

Blogger Kelli said ... (3:36 PM) :

Timeless! They have true style.

Blogger gizhou said ... (3:38 PM) :

The shine on those shoes! Definitely a man of the times and he hasn't gone for the Botox look. Outstanding - I hope I look that good in a few years!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:53 PM) :

I'm sure you know how beautiful this photo is. Anyhow... It's beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:34 PM) :

lovely, easy, graceful, confident -- this is chic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:35 PM) :

Such a classic look in front of a timeless store. I'm new to Sart's work, but it's photos like this that make me wish I'd started reading sooner!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:48 PM) :

she looks more like his daughter than his girlfriend.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:22 PM) :

4:48 ... I was kinda thinking the same thing, but he's pretty stylish. He could have attracted a young lovely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 PM) :

Any man who knows his way to Tiffany's is fine by me no matter WHAT he's wearing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:16 PM) :

For me it's not about the coat, the hat or the shoes -- it's about the radiance of her smile and the twinkle in his eyes. Yes, they are stylish and they look great, but that happiness... now that's cause for optimism, especially today. Thank you for bring us this ray of sunshine.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:15 PM) :

I could not adore this any more...they are both amazingly chic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:05 PM) :

I think that without the fedora this would be a lovely couple, but with it SMASHING!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:06 PM) :

I think that without the fedora this would be a lovely couple, but with it SMASHING!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:13 PM) :

Beautiful, refined people.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 AM) :

The couple is elegantly smooth. That's going to my husband and I when we get older.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:29 AM) :

This photograph is award-winning.Definitely.
It's like a short story. The grace of old age, represented by a superbly dressed couple;they exude a joie de vivre that most people half their age have exhausted. No ennui here;only a life well lived.
This blog is like great wine;better and better with age.

Blogger Jason Hahn said ... (3:14 AM) :

I love this picture! Less for the clothes than for the incredible joy and happiness in their smile. Of course, one would NEED to be joyful and happy to be coming out of Tiffany's.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:41 AM) :

Francois why Cheever?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:33 AM) :

Sometimes I wonder if (well dressed) old people look great because they're skinny like models. The clothes hang so well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:02 PM) :

Well, I am partial as the woman is my cousin - she looks spectacular as always and they are such a smart looking couple together - he is quite dashing!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:44 PM) :

he is elegant&tall, she is beautiful ...in Italy this would mean: "Perfection"!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 PM) :

This is beautiful. Love the Classic Style.

And based on the location, it looks like a long overdue sequel to Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Blogger talulah said ... (10:37 PM) :

breathtaking... soooo stylish. they look like italians from rome. they must have been stylish all their lives. their wardrobes must be to die for.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:16 AM) :

simply eyecatching. good match. represents true sartorial elegance...timeless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:54 AM) :

Wow..even an old couple can appear with a such youthful vibe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Gaaaaaawd Sart. Not only are you able to catch great style, but also great moments. The interaction and expressions on their faces is heartwarming. Thanks for the wonderful pics.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:08 AM) :

can we all say, "classic and elegant?" would love to be as stylish as they when hubby and i get to be at their age.
