On The Street.....Madison Avenue, Manhattan

Could anything be more modern than sequins for day - this is how to do it.

Here the sequins both lighten the overall color palette and add texture to the look.

A navy skirt instead of black is also very important for keeping the look from being too dressy or evening-ish.

The tailored overcoat gives just a touch of menswear and the metallic gold color of the shoes is a perfectly unexpected way to finish off an outfit.

This is exactly the type of inspirational look that I hope people visit The Sartorialist for - it is not about the designers of the individual pieces or the price of any of her pieces but the abstract idea of how she has mixed color, texture, day/evening. masculine/femme.

Dear dear Sartorialist,
I have to tell you that it is exactly for "the abstract idea of how she has mixed color, texture, day/evening. masculine/femme" that I come to see "you". And also because I could see a little of New York...

I love the feeling of lightness the clothes portray and she seems very calm and comfortable in her own skin. Not so sure about the huge bag, though, seems to weigh her down!

It's an interesting outfit but then again, I would expect nothing less from Sally Singer. She works for Vogue.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 AM) :

I don't know that I could have come up with this combo, but it works on her. The look is about her style, her individuality and not about the designers . . . you are right about that Sart. Great pic.

Cute look.
The bag! Love it!! Where can I get one?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:05 AM) :

Isn't that Vogues's Sally Singer?

I love the sequined top and the mix of necklaces. (Not sure about the shoes though. They feel abit too light for the stone grey tights.)

Love this, Ive always wanted to do sequins in the daytime but was scared. This outfit has inspired me to give it a try.

This Lady with a capital "L",has interpreted modern and refined elegance so very well.

Simple shapes,beautiful colors...urban chic!

She has the eye and the feel to put it all togehter so well.

Bravo,compliments to you!!!!!!

love the inspiration from this blog too...i'm a poor recent-grad who loves fashion & will not be able to afford most of the stuff these ladies wear for the next couple/few/10 years, so all i can afford to take from this site is inspiration and it does help...especially when vintage shopping. THANKS FOR ALL THE INSIGHT into fashion. It really isn't about the price.

Anyway I agree with some of the above commenters, I actually really like the bag!

its funny, i saw the pics and thought - sequins for day how modern, only to read thats what you had already written - love your work!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:01 PM) :

Oh, I love her bag! You have the best blogg!

Love the necklaces!

Sequins for the daytime always make me think of Kate Moss, for some reason. I have a little black sequinned cardie that I sometimes have the guts to wear, in daytime, with a white singlet and my jeans. Always makes me feel very Kate Moss.

I like the shoes and tights here. Normally I would hate that look, but Sally carries it off here, I think.

This girl is right on target. She exudes a mixture of easiness spiced with a subtle irony that correspond exactly with her outfit.
Oh,I have to go to New York again!

sally singer - smart and well dressed - a ny woman. and no i'm not her mom or dad!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:49 PM) :

beautiful- she reminds me of the ideal prada girl.

You are absolutely right. And I usually don't care for sequins--at all--let alone during the day. This is superb.

Blogger Hebden said ... (9:49 PM) :

Gorgeous mixture of textures and colors!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:54 PM) :

matte sequins are fabulous.

Blogger thecoherent said ... (3:39 AM) :

i'm not that surprised. it's a vogue girl and she always has it right. sally gets it.

this makes me want to cry actually. perfection.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:38 AM) :

You are right!
How people mixed chothes, colors, textura, acessory, day/enening, etc...
This is my idea about personal style.
Individuality/personality, this is the point!
Love your blog.

The bag is Derek Lam, sold out almost everywhere. She looks great.

THE BAG! THE BAG! THE BAG

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 PM) :

I didn't particularly like the outfit.. But I LOVED her. She looks so sweet. That just proves that all the little well-though-of details don't always make a perfect whole. Sometimes something else (I'm not quite sure what)contributes to that special feel.
Man am I, deep today!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM) :

Yep that's Sally from vogue
