New York City Marathon 2006 part 1
Leopard gloves and scarf , Harlem
Long cardigan and dress layered, Williamsburg
Dad & Daughter , Fort Greene
Almost to Willamsburg
Love the raw edge jacket detail and the fact that he paired it back to sweatpants for a casual Sunday look
I don't know quite how it happened but I ended up running about 6 to 8 miles of the Marathon yesterday through Brooklyn and then Harlem.
I wanted to be extra comfortable while I was trying to keep up with the runners so I wore my running gear Sunday. Since I had gotten a late start I was a little behind my planned schedule so I decided it would be easier to run along with them than try and walk. If you notice all the shots are from the street out to the sidewalk. I have run two Marathons before in '95 and '96 so it wasn't too taxing but it really made me want to start preparing for next year.
On a related note I was stopped twice on Saturday by people thinking I was Lance Armstrong - odd.

Love the "unfinished" jacket on the guy in the bottom photo plus scarf, which carries its feeling; now, what's the cummerbund-like item?
As for the leopard-print gloves and scarf--simply amazing!
Yes! You do look a bit like Lance Armstrong! I thought of it from the get go when I saw your self-portraits and then again when I saw you at Saks in New York.
That red & brown knitted houndstooth sweater the guy is wearing is from H&M, it's in the stores now.
The last guy is my favorite. I love the mix of high and low.
You remind me more of Woody Harrelson, Sart. I hope you don't mind that comparison...I think he is cute!
But being compared to Lance isn't bad either, being one of the world's most fit physical specimens.
I love the dad and daughter shot!
Really think you should publish an "Old(er) Man Style" book - add the leopard guy, too! Also, the lad with the fur trapper hat looks great in the skinny jeans - you really have to be that thin or it just doesn't work - he does it without it looking like weird denim leggings like the cape guy from the other day.
The boots in grey sweater's ensemble are so perfectly well-loved. If only we could bottle & sell that kind of love in our clothes!
You do look a little bit like Lance.
Ah! this is a set! People as diverse as them, is such a beautiful exploration. I personally love, the first gentleman, the young dude with the girls...and the last man...what a man!
These three are for me 3 different stages in the life of a man...and what a beautiful example of their manhood expressed in the way they dress.
Father and daughter are my favorite, I hope, somehow, they can get a copy of that shot. As for th gentleman in the leoprard gloves and scarf, fantastic, enough said.
Sart!
I saw you at the marathon!
I screamed "Sartorialist!" at the top of my shabbily dressed lungs. But I don't think you heard. It was in Williamsburg, you shot an older gent wearing grey tweed and a cap.
I had accessorized my own brown tweed and orange cashmere turtleneck with my son's Ben Kenobi Star Wars figure as my pocket square ( I got lots of great feedback on that one!)
It's my second celeb-sighting of you (I introduced myself during fashion week)
I thought you knew you looked like Armstrong.
Bravo to you for the work and for lugging that huge camera while running!
I love Lance Armstrong, so look out I'm thinking about taking up jogging . . .
all the Harlem guys on your site have such style!!!
These are totally engrossing. I especially like the grey cardigan, tan boots ensemble. And the Dad & Daughter photo. Makes me melt.
so not odd.
ROTFL...
I'm picturing you, Sart, stopping runners mid-race to ask them where their track suit is from.
I'm running Paris in April 2007. Perhaps you'll be there? Must go find a fashionable outfit in which to sweat in.
mltt
The "leopard man" is astounding.Look at the perfectly chosen Bowler hat,the camel coat, the incredible scarf and gloves combination(and the "devil may care"attitude),combined with his skin colour, makes this man a true dandy.
I run marathons and I want to know how you managed to do it with your camera.
The dad and daughter are full of joie de vivre! And they match! They are darling.
Dorothy
Love the whole set!
yes, odd, since you're much better looking than Armstrong!
Wearing leopard print gloves and scarf let me know that this guy has his own sense of style. The confidence that young man is showing is 95% of classic style.
Big Up Uptown!!!
This is such a great series of shots that capture the energy of New York. Well done!
Really like the Williamsburg outfits... speacially the almost to, the gray jacket is great...
Hey Sart, I saw you too! I assume that you must have some pictures of THE accessory (cape!) of the day, the foil one they give the marathoners at the finish.
And I hope you got the runner in the cocktail suit with the giant martini glass. That guy was fast!
I'm looking forward to part two.
i love the girl in the long cardigan, so sultry even covered in all the grey layers.... just nice.....
it's true those tight jeans only look good on skinny butts and legs, as in this pic of the guy in the fur hat.....now the same jeans on his friend on the side would be a hideous sight......
The "almost to Williamsburg" guy looks awesome. Where did he get that buckle??
I have a thing for older men, so thank you for the last picture. He's gorgeous. A 21 year old wants his number, would you let him know?
For Jen
I only ran about 6 or 8 miles of the marathon so carrying the camera for that far wasn't bad and I was not running fast.
actually caring the camera while running was a lot like caring an old Sony Walkman
love the chunky grey cardigan. and the best thing is that you can get sth similar from H&M.
i did.
Leopard gloves and scarf just gave me goosebumps and made me want to cry. I miss New York so much. And I love this man.
"Dad & Daughter , Fort Greene" was such an "awww"-moment <3
Just today, I had your photo up on my screen and a female colleague said, "(Sigh!) Lance Armstrong!"
Deal with it!
