At the Photo Shoot......Brutus Fashion Editor

On Tuesday I was being photographed for an article on The Sartorialist that will appear in the Japanese mens fashion magazine Brutus.
Mr. Kinoshita is the fashion editor and he really looked great - I love the overall fit of his suit and how he wore his cardigan draped across his shoulders - when I first met him the cardigan was more draped over his left shoulder in a very cool way but not too forced.

He looks great and the cardigan as scarf are pretty stylish BUT he has no socks..And that look pretty stupid regarding to me when it comes to fall i NYC

Like the palette, but take issue with the cardigan as--what? Scarf? Shawl?

Would have preferred socks as well, or something other than black loafers without them....

I like that he is not wearing socks. Guys do that alot in Sydney, I like the edge.

lets face it, almost all japanese men can get away with sartorial murder!
he looks splendid indeed!
and his magazine is just the tops.

Kudos to anyone, particularly a fashion editor, who isn't trying to look like a teenager. I like the sweater as scarf thing; it's a very stylish way to deal with an extra layer when the temperature rises.

Update
it did get colder later and Mr. Kinoshita put the cardigan on under his jacket and it still looked great
and effective

regarding no socks
Fall in New York can be crazy - cold then warm then cold
today it is almost 70 and warm in the sun so almost anything goes right now b/c the weather will change at a moments notice

Layers rule!!

It's cool how well japanese men age.

hmmm, was that light the photographer supposed to look like a weegee light?
in that case i would recomend to use a norman, it's kinda worth less (dodgy) but gives a much better light than that pro-7 head with a regular reflector... the p7 with reg. reflector is very distance sensitive and the angel has to be perfect for it's distance.
but then again loafers with no socks anything is forgiven

I have to disagree with butch about the shoes - those [look like they must be Alden] loafers are a wonderful, classic touch.

I think Japanese are very much into bringing ethnic structure (or the idea of it) to balance the very structured modern silhouette.
The sweater works in deed as a shawl...or wrapping, but still is a sweater. The genius thing is to make it look casual when is a reaction to the very formal suit.

What make the Dutch designers bridge across west and east so easily: a structured system that is broken "casually", not for that unconsciously.

I praise people that break the rules by relaxing perceptions on what elegance is, and still be afloat from the formal tendencies of the majority.

I love the no-socks thing and he looks great - is that a subway map and a little key as "pocket square"? mighty fine - will have to hunt down a copy of his mag to check it out.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

Since his sweater is tied around his neck, maybe his socks are tied around his ankles, and we just can't see them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 PM) :

you must e in heaven!
scarf weather is back!
lol! he looks fab!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:35 AM) :

even if you can't see socks, he might be wearing PEDs...this is one way to get the "look" without ruining your shoes (which will happen rather quickly if you wear them without socks)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:41 AM) :

OK, if you didn't know he was the Brutus fashion editor and you saw him on the street dressed like that, would you think "Dork" or "stylish"? I think we tend to have positive bias when the subject is qualified as a fashion insider. Seriously, that hair style, that trouser cut, those loafers...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:17 PM) :

i really love the pant lenght/sockless loafers combination. it works so well and makes the suit seem both casual and intelligently edgy. there have been many photos of well suited men on this site lately, and it's been a pleasure to be inspired by them!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:49 AM) :

wow, looks great. i used to wear my cardingans like that with my suits but here in Romania sometimes people look strange at you in the street when you come out with something different in terms of street fashion. now i feel better :)
