Comments on "Short Leather Jacket"

This is meant as constructive crit, but I enjoy your NYC work much more. It's more energetic and engaging and interesting from both a fashion and a social viewpoint.
The Euros, if chic, are dry.
good eye. motorcycle / bomber jackets are supercool with girly trappings.
i love these photos from paris -- i really do -- but i can't get over how much black i'm seeing. it's quite remarkable. as to the little black bombers, so nostalgic. it's like the guy in the pleated pants with the cigarette. almost as if there's a longing for something lost. or else it's just fashion.
nice to see a return to normal people. all of the shots of fashion people at the shows are impeccable but I agree with anonymous, they don't give the sense of delight and discovery that the nyc street shots do.
I love the texture of the jacket.
paris and motocycles, that is for me the idea of heaven
I completely disagreee with what anon above and Amy have said. Being from London what i like the most about the Paris and "Euro" shots is that alot of them are very wearable and effortless. I think we have a different approach to dressing over here than you would in NYC for example. We tend to just throw our clothes on and if they go together that is great, but if they dont it isnt really a big problem. I think it would be somewhat harder to find the looks you find in London, Paris and Milano on a daily basis than you would in NY. (No offence to anyone in NY by the way, but conflicting opinions is what makes the world go round :D )
Where can I find a cute leather jacket like that in the US? Anyone?
As sarah wrote before; all swedish girls wear the tiny black/dark brown leather jacket over a pair of tights, the supertight dark jeans or the mini A line dress.
I don’t know if the style is "dry", but maybe more sophisticated than the NY style.
Anon - try ebay. I found a gorgeous, short leather jacket for $30
I wouldn't say European style is dry, moreover when the "style" definitely changes from country to country. The similarities of style are perhaps that europeans follow traditions closer than Americans. BUT, of course that depends on the group, or "subculture" that one might be looking at. In my opinion there is a HUGE percentage of americans that follow "the rules" and that trait is really dry. Again wherever you are is a matter of what is perceived as the standard and the unusual what limits your expressions.
Effortless, maybe, but all I see in this one is "greasy-haired too-broad shoulders." If you hadn't posted a description, I would have assumed this was a man. I think that the proportion is off in a way that isn't terribly interesting, and, in fact, quite unfortunate.
I have broad shoulders! You make me feel self conscious now about wearing my leather jacket :(
i don't know if americans necessarily follow "the rules" -- it's a very big country and one of the things that unites us, or at least that we have in common, is our so-called celebrities -- it's such a celebrity crazy culture, more like japan than europe in that way. what we see on lindsey lohan is often what the young people, especially the suburban young, think they should be wearing. and it is also this celebrity view of america that others around the world see. it doesn't represent the real america or what we wear. i also don't agree that americans are less sophisticated -- again, it's a very big country. i think that we simply don't care as much about sophistication for ourselves. we admire the sophistication of europe, but we don't really aspire to it -- we think royalty is cool, but we don't want it for ourselves -- it's the opposite of what we're about. we are a young country, and somewhat less self-conscious than the rest of the world, although some might argue more self-centered, and i would certainly agree. but in the end i think we're simply more optimistic, and perhaps that comes across as unsophisticated. but in looking at these photos, nationalities are often easy to spot -- not always, as sart discovered the hard way -- but surprisingly often. those girls in london looked exactly like london girls, the italian men looked exactly like italian men (thank heaven for italian men) and the french women were so undeniably french. so in a way, we are all following the rules -- they are just different rules.
Hey there hoi polloi!
Don't take it so personally. Not all clothes are made for all people! I, for example, am very curvy with large breasts, and as I'm sure you've noticed, fashion today isn't exactly designed for people like me. I would look extremly cheap if I wore a lot of the stuff! The fun about developing personal style is finding the stuff that works for YOUR Body, using your "imperfections" as pluses, etc.
As for broad shoulders/leather jackets, it really depends on the cut and what else you are wearing! Proportions, right?
I happen to agree that this particular cut makes this particular girl look manly. But maybe that's what she's aiming for!
So don't worry, and DEFINITELY don't feel self conscious. The fun of this site is that it allows us to see diverse people with diverse bodies and personal styles!
Oh, I'm sorry - I have broad shoulders, too, and love them. But what I meant is that this silhouette is not flattering or even interesting, and that part of it is the accent on the shoulders (which, very often, is sexy and strong!)
