Comments on "Feels Like New York"
J.F of RL! that's contrast alright.
It feels like New York to me, too. Not just in the ways you mention, but also the clear implication that autumn has definitely arrived. Like April is for Paris, New York is an autumn city. I miss the leaves in the park -- but in this picture I can almost see them!
oww, oww, oww, you nailed it! i can actually HEAR this picture. the camelhair/cashmere guy looks like dennis farina on a case -- richly dressed but definitely a meat-eater. could these two men be any different from each other and at the same time be more quintessentially new york?
This looks like a still out of a movie, the perfectly turned collar, the somehow-not-nasty shoe bottoms, the messenger passing. well shot.
Way to capture NY for those of us who can't be there, Sart!
Isn't it time for a new pic of Giovanna? Maybe three?
I just wanna go back to NYC...I really miss...'THE CITY'.
One of your best shots ever. It could be a cover for the New Yorker. The balanced perch of the messanger, the umph of the coat, the thick hair against the cold, the new dark brown contrasting shoes, the low back belt, the shoulders - man-oh-man, so much energy in this shot - you captured why the little moments of living in this town make it so stimulating.
...except they both be talking on cell phones!
In a curious way, to me--and perhaps because they are positioned opposingly--they DON'T seem to occupy the same city, even the same frame: each exists apart, in isolation.
But, oh! The camel's hair coat!
oh, i'd love to go to new york!
new yorkers, is autumn really the best time to visit?
I love everything about that back shot. Now that is a man! Camel coat, turned up collar, suit, shiny shoes...just well groomed overall.
i love it.
nice picture. Good idea from the "young gent" blogger. Would be nice to see new pictures from Giovanna!!!!
yes...i love ny! i live overseas (venice, italy) and i miss ny style so much...your site is my daily fix.
...I meant they both 'should' be talking on cell phones...
another great shot Scott. The swagger of that camel coat, very great Gatspy and juxtaposed right beside the messenger. NY is all about contrast.
Good call - he IS very Dennis Farina! That coat is divine.
That is absolutely brilliant.
Always love a good Polo coat - A classic !
"the action, the energy and the diversity of style" and the Stuart Weitzman in the background! It all makes me wish that I were out in the city today instead of working high above it.
New York is magical in the Fall. The crazy heat of summer is gone, the locals are back, and the weather is just perfect for walking anywhere and everywhere.
So much style too - and not so cold that you can't bring your head out of your chest to have a look.
Dennis Farina? Perhaps if it was a trench coat, but not a polo coat . . . far too urbane for Farina.
po·lo coat (plural po·lo coats)
noun
Definition:
overcoat: a double-breasted overcoat, usually made of camel's hair
photo of dennis farina being "far too urbane" as det. joe fontana:
