On The Street...The Unexpected Mix , New York

I love the unexpected mix of the mens madras shirt and the long dress. I wish her eyes were more open but it was the only shot I got that really showed the length of the dress and shoes. The dress looks heavy but it almost floated down the street.

Did you know that it was Brooks Brothers that brought Madras to the States?

The skirt does indeed look heavy. But such a look is a great creation. I hardly see such creation in CHICAGO. In chicago it's all about tank tops and ultra tight t-shirts.

wow. what a thrill to see someone actually dressed this way. a dash of old new york, more than a bit loony and quite classy.

I think the Harry-High-Pants look works here - reminds me of the very high-waisted jeans Stella McCartney (?) did a few years ago. It actually works. She looks great.

Can I ask, what are the pink/cream things down her right side? Bangles, or a bag?

Can't really tell her age by the picture, but this really looks like an outfit that would work well on a lady of a certain age. It lends an air of relaxed distinction. Good pick. I'm starting to realise that living in the cool area of New York is only a bitesize portion of what makes the sartorialist great. I would have definitely missed this woman on the street.

Very stylish. Agree with Ken's comments about the 80s. Also quite individual as not all of us can carry off that shirt. She looks terrific.

This is great. I love that she distorted the proportions as she did. It's very extreme and non-intuitive.
