Comments on "On The Street... Uptown Girl, Fifth Ave"
This is a beautiful, soft outfit and yes, great for work, but not for where I happen to work - a men's custom tailor shop in Knoxville, TN. They insist that women wear pantyhose and closed-toe shoes at all times. I'm struggling, having just moved here from Southern California. I've been wearing the only pair of closed-toe shoes I own for about a month now. Anyone have tips for breaking it to them politely that they need to get with it as far as the women's dress code? Panythose doesn't necessarily mean well- or nicely-dressed.
The outfit to be honest is a bit ho-hum. Yes, the detail in the sleeve is cute but I prefer the piped apron pockets. Very Claire McCardell(?). The shoes are an absolute snore. She could have picked a cuter sandal with a slightly higher heel but hey, I'm sure she's comfortable.
To anonymous at 9.04am, that's shocking! Pantyhose in summer! I suppose that means the men are in full suits and ties too? What decade are they in?!
Maybe leave a few strategically opened copies of Vogue or Elle etc around your workplace to show pics of women looking stylish, despite showing (gasp!) their bare legs and toes!!
I changed jobs recently and have the other extreme - there's no dress code here at all (despite being a funds management company) and some of the men need serious help. The shorts, the colour choices, it's disturbing.
I think it's a bit young.
If you don't have shapely arms this might not be the best style as it would hit you at a wide spot!
A longer sleeve with a cuff closer to the elbow would do for a more tailored environment.
personally, i like her bag. normally i hate those boring, logoed-to-death speedy bags, but her vintage dior is the one exception (at least i think it's dior -- i can't get my computer to enlarge the photo). why, i don't know -- i just like that one and always have. in this case it is also something of a surprise, a little unexpected touch, given the rest of the outfit which has a vintage feel but really isn't, and in any case not the same one as the bag. it probably doesn't really work, but it makes things interesting, to me at least. i do like the pocket detail on the skirt.
As a southern girl who use to wear navy suits to college football games, I say that you must be struggling with quite a few things in your Southern Cal to Knoxville move. Good luck with that dress code. You're going to need it.
Sart sez: the whole look to me is about that little button detail on the sleeve. But the previous commenter saw what I did-- the piping on the pockets that makes the blouse work so well. Hadn't thought about the shoes, but-- right-- maybe a little more dressy, but definitely white or something fabric that would have had the green and the white in it. dcinDC
uno stile molto sobrio ma davvero carino...e lei è molto carina:)
In my office, this outfit would be worn with fancier high heels by the professionals. Staff might wear the open slide. There's a strange stratification of formality depending on your job title and relative position in the firm, and a lot of it has to do with shoes and accessories.
Any girl who can wear a light-colored skirt is fine with me. I love how wonderful that color looks on her. I wouldn't dare, myself.
i also LOVE the pocket detail on the skirt. the shirt - with the button detail - reminds me of a lot of teenybopper-cutesy blouses one can get at the mall stores.
This is such a quintessential semi-casual daytime look in NYC and I love it. It's clean, pretty, and sophisticated without trying. I would also love to see shots from the Chelsea-gallery area as well.
she looks lovely!
while i like the outfit (the casual yet collected feel, how it looks cool against a hot city), i'm stunned that this could be considered "work appropriate." for it to work in most office environments around here (dallas, tx) would require proper heels or closed toes shoes (ballet flats, maybe), hair up, jewelry, and a proper pressing. there are, of course, exceptions, but the vast majority of work places here are still very conservative and much more business than casual.
i'm right there with the first commenter, but it seems pantyhose and classic heels will rule the roost for a while yet down south.
it depends on the office - in (some types of) publishing, or in design, maybe ... but in any "professional" NYC office this outfit proclaims Very Junior Level Secretary.
As an outfir for walking around in the summertime, however, it looks great.
this I could wear to work but not those shoes...just not allowed in my office!
she looks polished though...
I grew up in Knoxville, and it is conservative...I suspect I know where you work, and good luck. It'll take some time to change the dress code.
Her style is refined, I like her shirt tucked in and the colour of her skirt! Elegant and simple!
does anyone know where the blouse is from?
