On The Street... Koto Bolofo Fashion Shoot, New York
I was walking in Chinatown yesterday and ran into a full blown fashion shoot with Koto Bolofo behind the camera (thats him in the green shirt). He really is one of my favorite fashion photographers - his use of color is incredible.
He captures his subjects in a very heroic manner - I have used a lot of his tears for inspiration. His recent book Racing Style is a must have.

he's just powerful! lucky you.
he's amazing...check his new work for henry cotton.
Oh, I love him too.
Sart, off topic, but you walk a ton in the city right? Have you found any shoes that look good, are good to spend a day moving in, and that wear moderately well?
I spend a bit of time walking and shooting in the city too. And I always end up in trashed runners or some dorky Eccos. Both comfortable enough, but NOT stylish.
And yes, Koto does gorgeous work.
Suggestions?
wow! that is awesome that you got to see him doing a fashion shoot!
hey, on face hunter i just read about your "vitrine"-participation in antwerp! nice one! even though i didn´t finish my studies there because i did not like it so much, i always loved vitrine on all the other projects that the ffi organized.
things like that underline your influence on media and modern culture in general, sarto.
very cool. am yet another admirer of his work.
SCOTT, congrats on your mention in the latest issue (sept 06) of Departures!
oh god. his work is amazing. thank you for pointing him out. WOW.
I LOVE HIS WORK YOUR VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAPPEN UPON HIM SHOOTING, HE ONE OF FEW BLACK (BROWN) FASHION PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO HAS MADE IT AS A MAJOR NAME IN HIGH FASHION, SOMETHING I THOUGHT WAS IMPOSSIBLE BUT HE GIVES ME HOPE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME. THANKS FOR HIGHLIGHTING HIM.
i also love his work and i passed that shoot as well. i had to stop and watch for a bit. i love when they gussy up my hood. i live right near that block and they are always shooting something, movie, tv or fashion. once a shoot for elle had a city bus crammed in the elbow of doyers st. filled with one extraordinarily beautiful model surrounded by little chinese girls from the school around the corner on mott st. it was such a sight! but hard to get around and get home.
This is a beautiful shot, too, Sarto.
hey guys, just wanted to let you know that i'm a makeup artist working in Cape Town, South Africa. I've just had the extraordinary honour of working with Koto for a week.... His work is not only unbelievable but he is the most delightful person I've met in a VERY long time. He is amazing.
