ON The Street........The New Jeans Fit, LES, New York

I have officially seen enough superslim jeans on the Lower East Side. These look so fresh to me - sure he is slim but the jeans have a little leg room, they are loosely rolled instead of a uberwide turn-up and they look much more comfortable than superslims to wear in the heat of summer.
I saw a lot of topsiders in Europe -in straight brown they seem like they are trying too hard to be nostalgic but in blue they seem just right.

That jean fit looks so fresh. I cant agree with you more. Im so over the slim leg jean for men and women. Its funny how trends can just explode and die so fast.
I love how simple and tasteful this guy looks!

Agree, he looks effortlessly stylish (but is that the case? is this a deliberate compilation?) and the blue top-siders are perfect with jeans because the jeans are blue too.

great job during fashion week in Europe!!so..which style do you like better? the italian one or the french one? which of the two cities is the most fashionable?

Milan was by far the most fashionable but i think that had to do with fewer tourists to water down what you see

I think anyone can pull off the straight leg look if they have the correct proportions (no, I don't mean they have to be skinny). Straight-leg jeans look a lot fresher than skinny & super skinny jeans, at the moment.

Cute as a button!
So refreshing to see an alternative to the now tired too skinny jeans look!
I have pale blue topsiders-this inspires me to pull them out again!

Very chic and seemingly effortless. Even if contrived, he's pulling it off so what's a little conscious cuff-rolling?

I adore your site. I live in the 'wilds of Canada' and consider you one of my lifelines to civilization. Yours is such a great & unique perspective on NYC. The place seeps style from every pore.

Since I will be going to NYC at the end of the month as a "total tourist", I'll have to make sure that I don't end up as an unsartorialist subject!

Those topsiders are undoubtedly from Sebago, *the* brand for topsiders.

It's true that in Europe they never disappeared. They're a critical part of the 'trad' summer attire. Glad to see they're coming back in the US !

The Milanese don't follow 'fashion trends' ... they have their own flair when it comes to putting together those essential wardrobe pieces that don't date from season to season ...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:15 PM) :

I agree...you can do some amazing printing on canvas sneakers..check out the new Topsiders and Converse's Jack Purcells.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

You know this guy spent a lot of time deciding on the perfect TB length to roll his jeans to. Plus purposely messing up one front roll so that it's not too perfect in order to convey an effortless sensibility.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:55 PM) :

This is how my jeans fit me, and I thought I WAS doing the skinny look. I guess when you are as small and scrawny as me, clothes aren't so skinny.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

Topsiders, hunh? Around here (Canadian Maritimes) we're a little less imaginative and call them 'boat shoes'. Back in high school, I knew someone with boat shoes made with four different colours of leather: maroon, yellow, blue and green. They were hideous, even then! But you're all right, the blue ones work on this guy- but I think dark brown would have been good too.

I love that the second picture shows a tiny hint of the selvage strip on the cuff, looks great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

Is this post a test to see if the blog is powerful enough to be a taste-maker? I actualyl wouldn't be surprised.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (10:29 AM) :

I'm not trying to push anything but just keep doing what i have always done - post what I thought was inspiring

i hate the super slim jeans look for men, it's a look that should be reserved only for rock stars like mick jagger, having said that , this look does'nt deserve that much over analyzing thougth, it's jeans and a tee shirt for goodness sake. you know you've put your seal on what will surely be a trend that will look wrong and to studied on most people.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:42 PM) :

The crotch on these jeans hangs too low and maks his lower half look squatty. It's not an attractive look as far as I'm concerned.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 PM) :

Topsiders have been back for the last 2 years. These jeans make his thighs look big; a more successful reaciton to skinny jeans is high-waisted, and for jeans, sleeker on those thighs.

Blogger vadim-kontra said ... (1:18 AM) :

I think to pull that jean look off - you got to have your body proportions close to ideal - or at least have longer legs and be overall skinny ....plus, I love the way those topsiders look on him - but maybe its just because Im too young - but that whole Tommy Bahama look, they bacame icons of, is just sad....they look great on this pic - but in general - the way everybody's wearing them makes it a sad, sad shoe 8)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:41 AM) :

I don't understand..
is this the new style?
for guys to cuff their jeans at the bottom?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 AM) :

People are always saying that capris make women's legs look short. But now we see that mid-calf trousers actually looks worse on men, who on average have smaller leg:torso ratio than women. This guy's legs look incredibly short - like the shot was taken from really high up. The problem is exacerbated by the low crotch on the trousers.

You can get these same topsiders at Marshall's in Boston (discount outlet) for $39.95 marked down from $69.00. I bought them in green and Navy-white-baby blue combo, but also available in tan, baby blue and a brown-orange-white combo. Very comfortable!

Blogger Loulou said ... (4:36 PM) :

the pants are fresh---scores well on originality, but i stilldon't liek the style... i stopped at this picture mostly because of his lovely face.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

I disagree, as I haven't seen quite enough super-slim on guys yet. Yes, there is a prolifrence of the painted-on ones on soho fashionista boys and east village rockers, but I am still holding out for the less consciously sylish young men start to accept them. These men have nice legs and it's about time we see their shape in jeans. Maybe by fall. It's the male masses that don't need to start wearing them--that would be a train wreck!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:47 PM) :

I don't get it....every guy in the summertime rocks a plain white tee and jeans. He just decided to roll his up. This look has been done already. As for skinny jeans, it's a matter of taste. If you got big legs/thighs stay out of them, but if you got long lean legs show them off with a skinny fit. It's not a trend....it's a lifestyle....learn it,live it,love it.....LES RULES!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 PM) :

is it me, or is the waistband suspiciously low? Either he's doing it on purpose (yuck) or...weird pants?

Blogger Nicole said ... (12:00 AM) :

To me these jeans look like the "antifit" or "carrot leg" jeans that Europeans have been wearing for a few years now. Loose and baggy on the top and slim below the knee, they look great rolled or with boots to push the denim up and emphasize the relaxed hips and long rise. I bet he's wearing the Mod antifit jean by ACNE Jeans of Sweden. That's my guess.

If you don't like his jeans you are really going to hate the the drop crotched knit pants from Europe that are going to hit the US this Spring. Get ready!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 AM) :

This guy is my friend Raphael and he's always really simple and fashionable !!!

Love you Raph'

A.
