On The Street........Essex Street, New York

What a great summer dress - volume and yet it still has a very light airy feel. The above knee hem is the key to the dress not overwhelming her or seeming like too much volume for a warm summer morning. Also I think having her hair up and off her neck is a contributing factor to the literal coolness of the look.

Oh man...this pic has me about as close to ignoring flip-flops as I've ever gotten to date...

Nope. Can't...do...it.

Everything above the ankles: great. The dog: great.

Ahhh! Flip-flops! What a shame.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (12:05 PM) :

She's alittle generic to me. That said, only a few people can pull off a voluminous dress without looking 'heavy'.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

The sunglasses, what brand are they? Love them!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:23 PM) :

the dress is great.i agree that flip-flops are't ideal, but i think she pulls them off OK- they're even colour coordinated.

Interesting that everyone comments on the dog. Isn't NYC rumoured to be filled up with doggie fashionistas? How about a little more dog style?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

Are you guys hating flip-flops because you think they don't look nice or just because they're flip-flops? Seems to me it's the latter.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:44 PM) :

I have that dress!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:55 PM) :

It's beautiful- want the dress, the dog, the sunglasses. I could even see myself in the flip-flops haha

agree with you , love the dress....and the dog ..... sandals would be better than flops ---- unless you live in Coney Island or San Diego

Blogger Frida said ... (5:34 PM) :

I don't get the hating of the flipflops either, come on it's summer! The girl looks supercasual but stylish at the same time. Awesome, just like it should be.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 PM) :

I LOVE the dress. Where can I get it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 PM) :

Of course, you don't get the hating of flip-flops, Frida. You're twenty-two years old, and you don't know what's appropriate. Flip-flops are for the beach, not for the city. (The kids today lack a good sense of propriety. I weep for the future.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:35 AM) :

cute cute cute.

and one other thing: STOP THE FLIP-FLOP HATE! please! for the love of god! or at the least, just stop commenting on it. i think the rest of us have GOTTEN THE HINT by now. bah.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:22 AM) :

that's pip edwards - artist, socialite and tsubi associate. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

There has been much debate over this whole flip-flop deal. I think they're great. Incredibly casual, yes. But they shouldn't only be restricted for the beach.

Hell, even Carson Kressley loves flip flops.

Blogger Pamphilia said ... (10:01 AM) :

Even better would be if the dress were from Zara or H& M. I love it, it's gorgeous. Does anyone happen to know who designed it? Or where I could buy one?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

just lovely.

what a terribly rude comment. since when is age the ultimate deciding factor in whether someone knows what's "appropriate"? fashion don'ts come in all ages.

besides which, i understand this site to be about personal style, not appropriateness.

I didn't even notice the flip-flops! Usually I'm an anti-flip girl (ahem those girls who visited the president wearing flip-flops ::cringe::). But i have to say, I think different shoes would take your attention away from the great dress!

Blogger KLynn said ... (11:04 AM) :

Anonymous-11:19, I hear you. Flip-flops don't go with most outfits. They were never meant for street wear (casual, formal, or anything in between). They're still not. Sorry. If that makes us old fogies, so be it. :)

Anonymous-2:42, I can count on one hand the number of "nice-looking" flip-flops I've seen that weren't being worn at a beach or by the side of a pool. These come pretty close...though I'd have to get a close-up to be sure. It's not enough that they match the dress color, sorry.

LBellatrix,

That's ok, you're forgiven. Someday you'll understand.

Hpw do you know I don't know what's appropriate? Age has nothing to do with that! I think it's kind of outdated to have "rules" that people shouldn't wear certain things in the city. Ok, bikinis I can understand, but flipflops? Since when is that offensive to others? People are allowed to dress casual even if they're in the city!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 PM) :

i have a dress that looks identical to hers from forever 21.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:29 PM) :

The dress is C and C and they are sold out everywhere

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

right on, 11:19.

i don't think this is pip edwards. i've spoken to this woman before and she was definitely american.

that said... i don't like the dress. when i decide i don't like something, it's only after i've turned it into a design problem and subsequently sought the solution by turning it over in my head for awhile. what would this look like longer / shorter, darker / lighter, tailored / toussled... and i've come away from this dress with the absolute certainty that the only way i would pay money for this dress is if it hit just below the knee or lower. the biggest problem i have with the dress is the superfluous volume and, as those of you with curly or wavy hair know, length would lessen the "hip-enhancing" effect of this dress. i do, however, love the color. and the dog. the dog is adorable.
