Socks in sandals? I don't know if I have to cry, frown or applaud.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:33 AM) :

No one, but no one gets away with those black sox and shoes.

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (11:03 AM) :

love the way she wears her beautiful chain/necklace with that crew-neck, though. perfect balance of beauty and handsomeness.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:14 AM) :

But maybe it's a feet issue? I always wrestle with summer stuff because I CANNOT wear any kind of shoes without socks, at least not without bleeding all over the shoes. So how then do I wear skirts? How do I wear cropped pants? Actually, I usually don't, but I could certainly see a "make everything black and simple so that it blends and may not catch the eye" approach. In fact, merely the thought of not wearing long pants all summer almost reconciles me to the idea.

Blogger Claudio Moro said ... (11:25 AM) :

Yes, Franca was there, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:35 AM) :

Huh?

I wouldn't wear most of the shoes you photographed on women in Italy (I actually have to walk places), but I spend an awful lot of time trying to get something walkable that doesn't look like this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

Come on now. This is a case of an attractive woman thinking she can get away with anything because she is attractive, thin, and artsy. Yet, it's really a NO NO NO NO NO. The sock and geriatric sandal combo wouldn't even look good on Gisele.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:49 PM) :

socs in sandals! i think you should cry, cathy

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

Carla can get away with anything

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:15 PM) :

Those look like Birkenstocks...! And the socks to go with...!
Yikes; and I was hoping that combo would be contained within the Bay area.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:21 PM) :

Only commom people fear wearing black socks with black sandals. She looks great.

Blogger Strcprstskrzkrk said ... (4:12 PM) :

Move to Prague and see the horror of a society where the socks and sandals combo is considered a completely normal part of everyday life.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

oh no she didn't!!! socks with sandals?! you go girl!

i think since the socks and the sandals match very well in color, that she gets away with i

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:34 PM) :

i would wear flip-flops instead of those .... i think .... sighhhh

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:54 AM) :

they're nice in an orthopedic shoe - type of way .... only Carla could get away with that !!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:23 AM) :

So tell me this --

If a woman has medical problems with her feet, what is she supposed to wear? Is there no room in the fasion world for good health and style? Seriously, I want to know.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:30 PM) :

I agree with the last comment. She looks great and mature persons are given certain allowances for style. She may have health issues that require sensible footwear.

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (3:47 PM) :

The old socks-with-sandals treatment finally succeeds.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

O Lurker, you have hit it off exactly! I feel strongly that if we are to spend a lot of time judging people's outfits, it is immoral not to make allowances for health, age, weather conditions and (to a degree) comfort. Certain style situations leave one no choice but to work a suboptimal look as best one can or to be fiendishly uncomfortable/exacerbate a medical condition. I myself would probably wear some kind of black closed-back clog with black socks and a skirt, on the theory that it would look a bit more arty, but if I were doing a lot of walking or my feet were bugging me, I think oddball/geek chic sandals and socks would be okay. Feet are important! How are we to fit them into tiny pointy shoes for glamourous occasions if we don't let them recuperate in flat wide shoes sometimes?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

I love those sandals with black socks , very stylish

Blogger MARIA H said ... (3:44 PM) :

I love heels. I take them out one day out of a week. They DO are uncomfortable. Why do designers not address the comfort aspect? I think is time to do fantastic high heel shoes that are comfortable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 PM) :

the black socks /sandals works very well .... this blog is about style not sensitivity, and that is VERY stylish .... comfort should always trump style ..... we don't all have to be skinny and attractive , ugly and slothenly is attractive also

Blogger 'signorina' said ... (8:45 PM) :

I think she and Miuccia should get together and go bowling, as it were. I don't really have a problem with the socks and sandals. I take it as an ironic comment, and I can cope with it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:02 AM) :

nanna feet! granny feet! oh dear. ballet flats would have been just as comfortable but enormously more chic. oh dear. great from the ankles up. oh my, i'm in shock.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 AM) :

i LOVE IT! she's independent, confident, her own woman. go carla!!! i'm getting so sick of the stiletto-heels-or-die-faction that's going crazy on this website.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:31 AM) :

The Shoes: Everything else looks so amazing I can't help wondering if she knows something that I don't. After all; she is "Carla" as we have all pointed out. Is it possible for he to be wrong? Oh dear! Socks inside of sandals. Oh my!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:17 AM) :

you guys have no idea !
when your feet hurt, why wearing high heels? THAT ist stupid.
i think she's perfect with that.

Blogger Mandy said ... (6:30 PM) :

All right, I understand that it's hyperbole, but it seems ridiculous to react so strongly to someone's footwear. Fashion rules are arbitrary, and they change constantly. I admire anyone who will just wear what they want to wear and what is comfortable. This is one reason why I love this site - it's inspiring to see glimpses of personal style, rather than fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:02 AM) :

who the hell is this woman that people spend their time writing about her? alright she made a super expensive posh bar in milan... so what? good for her. People get back to reality.... there's a lot more to life than this...

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (7:46 AM) :

to Anon 7:02 am

I would do a little more research before ripping someone, especially someone that so many people seem to respect - didn't that give you a hint?

She owns not a posh bar but what is widely considered of of the most important fashion store in the world 10 Corso Como. yes is has a bar and hotel but that is just window dressing for her store an her impeccable ability to make a store that is constantly new and exciting to a crowd that gets bored very fast.

she also is a modern style icon

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:06 AM) :

I can see why she would want to wear these sandals, they ARE comfortable. But the socks don't make them more so, and to boot, this is just plain ugly! So... why?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 PM) :

if she wasn't Carla, this probably wouldn't seem right at all, it would certainly look terrible. It's Carla that's worth it, she always leave people thinking on her and her style. She's got her own independent style, I truly admire that. oh, and I love her Kris Ruhs necklace, he makes true sculptures for jewelry, and they look great on her!
