Comments on "On The Street.... Washington Square Park, New York"
wonderful - this is what nyc is about. can i take you on a tour of the outer boroughs one day? so many great pockets the rest of the city never sees...
WOW! The colours are amazing! Irealy like the sari. Truly wonderful...
That peach one looks great in the last photo.
I love the last pic of the boy in street clothes with the large scarf. It has been unusually chilly in the city and I could see this guy amoungst the beautiful sari's adapting to everything without even trying. Great photo! American, Urban, Cultural, Unpretentious...
It's weird to realise clothes that I take for granted everyday are wonderful in New York...I'm actually thrilled to bits:D
Was this a wedding? How fun!!
Was it an event?
I love traditional Indian apparel -- the vibrant complementary hues, the embellishments, the draping of the fabric and uninhibited exposure of midsection. Beautiful.
WOW! Was this a special occasion? Those outfits are beautiful.
It's so gloomy here today in usually sunny Southern California. We're going through "June Gloom" right now, so this post was so wonderfully colorful and inspired. Thanks for showing it to us.
Three words - stunning, stunning, stunning!! The fabric, texture, accessories, make up, the range of age, etc sigh; just lovely.
I love traditional Indian dress- thank you for posting these!
such vibrant colors!
Thanks, I've been looking for an excuse to wear my belly chains.
Great composition and colors!!
It's not exactly just Indian apparel. The South Asian diaspora (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan)comprises such outfits. The sari, salwar-kameez (worn by the older lady in pink), lehenga (the yellow-orange outfit in the first photo)etc. are all worn in these similar yet varied South Asian cultures.
Nevertheless, great to see these photos. For many South Asians who have been born or raised in North America, one of the strongest symbols of culture continue to be their traditional clothing.
I love the color styles of India.
i like the last pic...
It's not just the Sari's..it's how they layer them..amazing!
the event was the festival of india, Ratha Yatra, it takes place every year in NY and continues around the world all summer. The Hare Krishnas know how to dress.
i love india.
my theory is every woman looks brilliantly gorgeous in a sari! it's just the way it is wrapped to the body and not afraid to show curves when required. and every state pretty much has a different way of wrapping.
no matter how many times i've been to india i still can't master sari wearing :(
colours we think would clash actually work in indian clothing for some reason. and how good are bangles! especially real glass ones.
beautiful photos, sartie. makes me miss being in india!

Love the way he is so casually non chalent about the synthesis of the scarf matching the tone of his shoes
As a Singaporean, I noticed that Indians wear their punjabi suits (what the old lady in bright pick is wearing) everywhere. Seriously. Even at home while chasing after their boisterious 3 year olds and getting them to settle down. Its the most comfortable thing in the world to them. I bought 3 such suits in Little India for $20 each myself about 2 years ago. And I still love them to this day. Comfortable yet still stylish with flats. And cheap !
If you do come to Singapore one day, do drop by Little India for a picture or 2. Cheers !
