Comments on "On The Street.....Williamsburg, Brooklyn"
Can you pick up a different fetish please? She could do without them.
Dogs like trucks ...
but they also like leggings.
Its not that I dislike leggings- just black leggings under a white dress. THIS, I like!
It's not that I dislike the Return of the Leggings... Just black leggings under a sheer white dress. THIS, I like very much.
I do love the way the hemline is slightly longer in the back. The look is graceful, and the structured jacket pulls it together.
leggings never look good. period.
I think that we are being a little to quick with the trends. Everything is so in and out when in reality if one likes how leggings look with their outfit (and it looks good) they should feel free to wear them. I was watching Oprah today, she featured the Missoni family, I absolutely adore Margherita's style, and their fall collection featured leggings. (side note: numerous other fall shows featured the trend). I think it is all in the way you wear them. This is not my favorite interpretation of the trend, but it's fun. It's fashion. Just because we have seen the trend since last summer doesn't necessarily mean it is out. As long as the leggings look good and look as if they are inherently of the person wearing them (They are not trying too hard) we should lay off the "leggings are over!" routine.
It just makes her look stumpy.
I've never seen a leggings outfit that wouldn't look better WITHOUT the leggings. Please, Sartorialist, make it stop!
I don't mind the way leggings look at all, but it seems they need to be worn with heels, because yes she does look stumpy in 'em.
That's it. Tomorrow I'm NOT flying to Alaska, I'm going to NYC instead to pick me up a pair o' leggings. I'm sure they must be different out there somehow, the ones we have here are just... well, um,... 1980s yoga wear.
It's funny: I spent last September in Barcelona, and the legging look was all the rage there. I liked it then, but now everyone I see wearing it just seems a little too lemming-like. And, honestly, it's not the most flattering look unless you have really slim, perfect legs.
I like the leggings under dresses/skirts - adds a bit of bohoness to the outfit!
Leggings don't bother me normally but these are too long and make her look even shorter. And I hate those little girl sandals, they look like those jellies from the 80's!
Surprisingly, I don't hate the leggings. It's a beautiful outfit, especially the dress and shoe combo.
my shoes! she is wearing MY shoes... watch those straps, girl! mine detached this morning. (makes you look rather stupid...)
Sartorialist, are you trying to brainwash us - legging-haters?
And it just might work! :)

This has a "dancer vibe", and I rather like it.
my question is: would you have taken this girl's picture if her outfit did not include the leggings? without them, would the outfit still catch your fancy?
I agree with the lemmings comment and, for the most part, with the "never seen a leggings outfit that wouldn't look better without the leggings..." except then you gotta look at Anna Sui SS06: http://www.style.com/slideshows/fashionshows/S2006RTW/ANNASUI/RUNWAY/00090m.jpg a capri length non black legging is fine fine fine...
Nay, nothing is ever going to make me like leggings, in any way. Why, I cannot help by getting the impression that people who wear them a)are totally uncomfortable with their own legs and cannot accept the way they naturally are b)follow fashion blindly, and wear ANYTHING they are told to be "trendy" without really liking the thing, and therefore, look so clumsy and artifical c)did not bother to shave their legs.
without the leggings I still would have shot it because the dress actually had an iridescent multi-color stripe running through the fabric but b/c of the light it is hard to see.
I think the leggings has more to do with the weather in NYC, cool in the morning, warm afternoon, cool evening.
Great dress and love the jacket - she is cute in a put together, simple, shade way! As for the leggings, I will concur with Sportychick's comment about all the leggings around here being 80's yoga wear! Maybe I need to trade my Pearl Izumi biking tights for a pair of fandangled under-the-dress leggin's! Hmmm... wonder if they are capable of wicking?
Again, a perfectly pretty outfit ruined by leggings. A slip would've done the job if she had issues with the dress being sheer.
Why does fashion like the 80s again?
I'm a guy and I like the leggings especially with ballet flats. I for one do not agree with those who said that her outfit would have looked better without the leggings. On the contrary, her outfit would look just normal and uninteresting if not for the leggings.
agreeing with nisha 100%. why the leggings?
Leggings excluded, i really like the outfit.
Why does everyone hate on the leggings? They're simply functional, making a just-barely-long-enough tunic or mini-skirt work and life appropriate. And, I disagree -- I don't think you need to be Twiggy to wear them well. It's incredibly uncomfortable wearing super-short skirts in this city, what with the wind and the incessant howls from men, so leggings are, for me, a welcome reprieve.
I think that if the dress was shorter and you took away the denim jacket, it'd look great. And also, if she wore heels with the outfit rather than flats.
