Brightly colored shoes with black clothes is one of my favorite wardrobe picker-uppers.

Check out the last few females featured on here - apparently to be a fashionable female in NYC all you have to do is wear a lot of black, add perhaps a quirky accessory, and be incredibly thin. It's just not interesting. I appreciated the older woman featured recently, she was lovely, but the rest are just Urban Outfitters redux.

Is this Mary-Louise Parker?

WOW!...really really a great blog. I love it. I used to live in NYC for about 8 months. What a great city with great sense of fashion! Keep it up. I'll visit again soon.

...Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the last "older woman" depicted was wearing "black" and had a "quirky" accessory. She looks beautiful. However, I disagree with your overtly generalized comment. Quite the contrary, this woman with the pinks shoes looks just as "lovely". (Urban Outfitters redux?)

An eyecatcher - simple, clear, restrained. A style for daily life ...

Black. Thin.

New York.

Interests me.

Especially if the cut and fabric—. But even otherwise.

she looks like agnes b.

Well, I see all sides of this great debate.

Yes, black and thin has been done. Yet, when one thinks of NYC one thinks of variations on a theme ...

Therefore, differing themes on dark and light work for me ...

Besides, the pink shoes would not make me go WOW! with out the black, especially the shades.

The best! Great work. Thanks mucho.

Not so many people dare to experiment with colors and that's why people tend to wear neutral colors like black, brown or grey (but mostly black) because they think it's safer. But actually, by scrolling all-photos that Sartorialist have posted, self-confidence (about how you feel on what you're wearing) is what really counts! & the shoes bring this lady confidence, & that's why she looks great!

adorable shoes.

I see I'm in the minority. I find the shoes too delicate for the dark coat and glasses. It isn't the colour so much as the style. The style could stand up to the coat if the shoes were dark and the colour could stand up to the coat if the shoes were more substantial.teabo

I love the subtle androgyny of the coat mixed in with feminine heels.
