On The Street........A Sartorialist On Madison Ave.
Ok, now it is getting really cool when I stop someone on the street and they already know all about The Sartorialist! - It is just icing on the cake when they also look really stylish. As the giant 650 in the background will tell most fashion insiders, Mike works at Ralph Lauren. I think it is such a testament to Ralph's work that on the same day I shot Mike, I also shot a retired gentleman (I will post later in the week) in a twenty year old Ralph Lauren suit and both looked perfectly rigged for their age group.

One of the most entertaining and brilliant moments of sartorial style en masse...occurs on Thursday and Friday afternoons during the Summer when the PRL set make there way from 650 Mad to the "country"...the art of weekend atire in every form has its moment of idiosyncratic representation. It's a true testament to the brilliance of the brand and the inate nature of many a PRL employee. I kind of equate the scene to bird watching, sans binoculars...one just has to keep an eye on the revolving door.

I agree with Irene, I would definitely take a second glance at him if I saw him on the street! :) He really likes his cuffs, he even cuffed his sleeves a bit. Cute!
Love the look, jeans rolled nice and high with the desert storm, and a bit rough on top without looking sloppy. The only thing that kills me is the rolling of the sport coat sleeve. Don johnson did it on Miami vice, and I think we can all agree that it even looked silly in Miami during the 80's. The only time you should make use of the operational button holes and actually role up your sleeves is if you are doing it for its original purpose. Originally the working button hole was in order for men who needed to wear thier jacket while still performing their work, i.e. doctors back in the 50's who had to wear their jackets to perform surgery. If not, just unbutton 1 or , in the end the sartorial jacket is something which should be appreciated by its host, not necessarily his audience.

I hear what you are saying but the jacket he is wearing was a cotton jacket -not very formal at all. i don't think he was "showing off" working buttonholes but just adding a little flair to casual jacket. My favorite part of the look is the incredible spread collar striped shirt.
He's sporting a stylish and relaxed look with the cotton jacket and the shoes, which appear to be Allen-Edmonds...can't see the shirt too well. The darker jeans are good but I don't like cuffed jeans.
(I also like the Saab...Saab's are cool :)
and the way the jeans are folded, over the suede [?] shoes. nice!
While I was in New York last month, I dressed my best everyday, ridiculously fantasizing that some random guy would come up to me and say "Excuse me, um, I've got this fashion website thing and..." to which I would say "Aha! YOU are the Sartorialist!" and promptly be documented in these sacred style annals.
Didn't happen. That's alright. New York's a gogo, man. You're never bored. I'd imagine that, as time goes on, that will only happen to you more.

A guy with a lot of confidence and style can pull off the turned-back sleeves of the jacket. Joe Abboud and Ralph both do it really well with heavy tweed or cord jackets for a casual, cool look. There are great pictures of Hollywood guys from the 40's and 50's pulling this look off so well and looking very sporty and dapper. I think this guy does it just right. It is relaxed and cool. Hmmm, which jacket shall I "cuff" tomorrow??????

650 is great. When I walk by there I keeping hoping that Carey Grant will walk out, just like he did in North by Northwest.
