Face Hunter - Paris
I don't usually do link exchanges because I see so few blogs I like but Face Hunter I love! This guy is super tapped into the Paris party scene and captures the beautifully stylish people in a very Terry Richardson (PG version) kinda way.

I don't get it. Someone sticks a camera in someone's face (they're probably drunk). They make a funny face and 'boom' they suddenly become cool. I can go down to a local bar and get this. Why is Paris so special?
If you can go to any local bar and shoot these kinda kids then let me know where you live and let me know when you start your blog about it.
I carefully studied those photos again and, yup, faces like these can be found anywhere. To say that you found them Paris is just bragging. But, hey, I'm just a professional photographer in small town Iowa.

I didn't find these kids - they are from a Paris based blog called Face Hunter.
The photos are taken at some of the coolest parties in Paris, It is not just the faces, it is the clothes, the hair, the overall style.
Again, if you can find half the number of cool kids in Iowa as this guy has on Face Hunter then I would love to see that blog. And that is coming from a photographer who grew up in Indiana
I like many things about Sartorialist's wonderful blog. One of them is that it is a respite from the endless glorification of mere beauty and an appreciation of something available to anyone regardless of genetic happenstance, if they have the wit, the cool and the audacity to take advantage of it: style. I recognize lineless faces, pretty eyes and sculpted cheekbones when I see them and I can see them anywhere. Enough already.
There are thousands of photos posted every week of young, cute New Yorkers out on the town. L.A. and Miami too, probably. Face Hunter is more of the same, totally routine and lacking in all surprise. Sartorialist, however, has a special eye. As someone who sees style as an expression of an individual's imagination, I prefer his unique vision to Face Hunter's mundane grabs.
Aaah, so young, so stylish, and so beatnik (sometimes)...Face Hunter c'est si cool!

Hey! I saw the girl in the red had on What Not to Wear a couple of months ago.
what makes non-Americans, not just the French, look interesting is just the sense that they're individuals, and happy to be that way ... I mean, check out AA for endless threads discussing "Should I wear a grey or a dark blue suit to my job interview?" ... you get the feeling that these people live in a world where if they're hired or not for a job it'll be based on their ability to do that job, not on their ability to blend in w/everybody else in the workplace ...
anyhow, anybody who doesn't believe peoplewatching in Paris is better than in small town Iowa needs to go to Paris.

There was an episode of South Park
in which the children produce a TV program showing close-ups of animal faces through a wide angle lens and nothing else.
The French definately have a style that is different than Americans, but I wouldn't say that Parisians are any more "individual" than New Yorkers...just look at the guys' hairstyles on Face Hunter: 70's shaggy swept-forward cuts on just about every white guy, and just about every black guy is sporting some sort of afro. Whether that demonstrates anything is debatable, but the uniformity is noticable.
There are also pics of a few famous people from an art exhibit, including Johnny Hallyday and Elton John. Doubt these faces would be at an Iowa bar.

a tame last night's party or an edgy, youthful Patrick McMullan? Although both of those sites can seem very posed, yet completely opposite. I saw this one awhile ago via some other french bloggers. I cull from the sites sometimes as interesting examples of street style, looking mostly for thrift and vintage wearers or something original. I prefer the sites where you can see the clothes the person is wearing and see their face. There is also pigmag in Italy. I actually found out about them because I was trying to shoot the same guy at the flea market as one of their photographers. I find hel-looks one of the most interesting and best photographed. I just did a post on a girl from wardrobe_remix. I followed some links and ended up on some crazy Japanese babydoll style site. There are a million places to see peoples pictures it seems. I also started doing weekly "ebaybes" posts because I found it so interesting, the ebay seller's zest to attempt editorial photo shoots in their merchandise, yet still be "real" people. I guess my favorite place to see people is just by walking down the street. Everyday I am inspired.
face hunter is kinda the not utterly revolting version of cobrasnake, with more attarctive and not nearly as idiot-looking people.

Elton John has been to Iowa. Golly, famous people come from Iowa (Ashton Kutcher for one). Face Hunter photos aren't even good photos to begin with...just snapshots...and snapshots (blinding the subject with the camera flash and using a wide-angle lens) can distort what the individual really looks like. Subjects are also 'mugging' for the camera (one guy sticking his tongue out). Heck, the photos could be played around with in Photoshop (I doubt it, though).
BTW...I have photos of Amish people from Iowa with 'cool' faces. (sorry, no blog to show you)

My request is please don't post any face-pic ever ever again. You can judge a person by his/her face and those faces are saying, "Hello, I'm party people and I'm beutifull & cool (but I'm actually just overdressed and stupid)!"

Yeah, I guess I'm really surprised that The Satorialist would find Face Hunters of any interest at all.
Frankly, the people on it really aren't all that visually interesting (compared to this site), and the quality of the pictures are really just party snaps.

Face hunter has not to be taken for more than it is. These are cool pics from cool people at cool parties. And that's all. I check his blog on a regular basis, and I like it. This is often for me "Souvenir" snapshots of parties I attended to (or missed). I laugh when I see my face or the one of my friends... in our early-morning-sunken-fashion-glory... ! (so I'll never tell you where I am). Don't forget anyway that most of them are costumed parties.... We don't look that way 7 days a week ! We are just playing with our image, this is the best part of the game and we do not fear any wrong taste drama... I remember the girl with the red cap... that was at the Colette Dance Class Hip Hop... and we all had real fun ! And Face Hunter caught it... once again.
That's all, that's just fun ! It is a living diary of modern young parisians. Not a fashion statement about what parisians should look like. FYI, most of the people attending those parties are not french !
ANyway, this debate is pointing out a major cultural difference between USA and Europe. Americans are always asking "what should I wear ? Can I wear white socks with an abercrombie bermuda at a babecue party ???" You see your wardrobe as a way to express the social group you are belonging to ! In Europe, the ones who loves fashion take it as a way to express themselves, their own indivituality. You could die for "the ultra-limited edition-vintage-out of stock-item" Because you will be proud to be the only guy in town who got it. This a desperate attemps to say "I'm unique, I'm a special human being ! I'm not an another marketing target !
We all know that is ridiculous because at the end we are just falling again in a marketing niche !
Believe me, I know what it is. I have been press officer for a major luxury brand. I've almost grown up on photoshoots. I know the difference between Harper's Bazaar and I-D magazine, Town & Country and Visionnaire... Don't ask me with which ones I'd rather worked ! (and for Mr Iowa, I know the difference between Steven M., Mario T., David B., Terry R. and Face Hunter, because I met them all...but I won't be able to locate "Iowa").
So just take Face Hunter's work as a nice testimony on who people looks like in Paris. And it makes me confident. Fashion hyp is back in town, and that's a pretty good news, we don't have to be shy anymore, suffering to be compared to Berlin, London or Anvers ! Face hunter is showing us the great influence of Hedi Slimane, Kris van Assche, British Rock, Arty meeting point like le Palais de Tokyo... I am amazed to see some looks in the streets of Paris directly inspired by the latest fashion story of the Dazed and Confused. And That's just Great !!!!

I don't see the appeal in these photos. The first guy's alright -- I guess -- and the blonde girl is pretty, but I think all of their styles are not individual, not attractive and basically massive turn-offs. Can't you see that they're all imitating the same trend, becoming photocopies of eachother. They follow the mantra of: "I'm gonna spend 2 hours making my hair look like I just hopped out of bed" and "I'm gonna spend $3000 on an outfit that'll make me look like a hobo" which is honestly downright wanky and pretentious.
I think these kids should actually sleep in a park and wear clothes that they picked up for two bucks at a charity store (and can only wash once a week at a cheap laundromat). Perhaps then they'll realise that hobo-chic isn't so glamorous after all.
