It's Bill Cunningham
Right!
Bill Cunningham!
Who the heck is Bill Cunningham?? :-D
Would it be presumptuous to say that The Sartorialist is the new Bill Cunningham?
Bill has been around for years and has a masterful eye for fashion and how it is worn and he has photographed thousands of fashionable folk.
I feel that you, Sartorialist are the fashion eye of the new millenium!
My apologies to the Plimpton estate and, of course, Mr. Cunningham.
Dapper photographer cum cute old man Bill Cunningham? Does he have a mustache in that picture?
bill cunningham = television journalist
Hah! I also wanted to go for Sugimoto!
thanks for the very kind comments
Spoting Bill Cunningham on the Street or just about anywhere in NY where one may encounter some style...is always a small thrill. His unassuming nature, always wearing his sky blue jacket; on "his" corner 57th and 5th; on his bicycle; at a lawn party; front row at a show. He has certainly, with a masterful eye, chronicaled the style of our time...what an icon. I agree that The Sartorialist has the same potential.
Mr. Cunningham came out with a book about 30 some odd years ago where he photographed somewhat well known NY'ers in authentic 19th and early 20th century styles posing on the streets of the city. Does anyone recall the name of the book...? Would love to find.
I thought it was Bil...he's so white haired now...well so am I.
if you findout about the book I would love to hear more about it
ebay?
bookfinder.com shows many bill cunningham books. Unfortuantely, they are all of another. Maybe he was not the author.
I do see that he donated dozens of photos to the ny Historical Society back in the seventies. Go check them out.
It's killin' me that I can't find the book...Truth be known...I once owned it, and then gave it away as a gift..(won't do that again) I also spoke to Mr. Cunningham about it a few years back...he seemed flattered that I even knew about it...I suppose I'll inquire again, next time I see him...Shall let you know....
Poor chap, who is the true subject of this post...not one comment regarding his efforts.
Killin' me no more...
