It's Official - Marc Jacobs Winner Of Fall 2006 Collections

Kings Of The Runway, Fall 2006
1. Marc Jacobs - Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton- did anyone have a better one/two punch this season than Marc?
2. Nicolas Ghesquière - Balenciaga
3. Alexander McQueen
4. Dries Van Noten
5. Olivier Theyskens - Rochas
8. Marni
7. Stefano Pilati - Yves Saint Laurent

Wild Card
Prada and Miu Miu - I bet the Prada collection is better in person than in the photos and Miu Miu is difficult to really appreciate in such a crowded and distracting setting.

Biggest Disappointment
Lanvin - I had to go back a couple seasons to remember why I liked it so much in the past. Again, his saving grace is that what usually hits the stores is much stronger than what was on the runway.

1.Balenciaga-totally modern and powerful!
2. Alexander MacQueen- amazing, amazing!
3.Louis Vuitton-lots of new energy and fab knits!
4.YSL-great for day and night.
5.Rochas-quiet luxury with an edge.
What they all have in common is that they are chic, young, modern and above all-wearable.
Also good-Versace, Fendi,and Hermes.

1. balenciaga- everything has already been said
2. marc jacobs- so inovative; messy yet put together the entire collection was one huge Juxtaposition
3. Alexander McQueen- it was good to see him back on form; the details on the clothes were amazing
4. Tao Comme Des Garcons- just plane sweet and beautiful; the clothes were all put together so niecly and the flowers on the capeythingies were to die for!
5. Rochas- i thought that the influence of oliver was really obvious but was still wearable; it was amazing how he made something so grimey so elegant and pretty

ALSO- fendi, proenza schouler, yhoji, viktor and rolf

Have to disagree with you on Alber Elbaz. I think what makes it to the stores is so much more watered-down than what he puts on the runway.

Admittedly, this season's collection was very safe, relied very heavily on YSL but I think this was done in a loving way-- unlike Hedi Slimane-- and even when playing it safe he makes beautiful clothing; that's the whole point of Lanvin, right?

When Alber is at his best, he is not just making beautiful clothes, he is making the MOST beautiful clothes.

Usually the individual items of Lanvin in stores are great but the way it is bought is sometimes less than exciting.

1. Ann Demeulemeester (by far - i love the romance and confidence of her clothes)
2. Hussein Chalayan (absolutely gorgeous, as always)
3. Alexander McQueen (back to "basics" )
4. Bruno Pieters (I love his silhouette)
5. Junya Watanabe (his punk is the best punk, especially if it will be as well constructed as what's in stores now)

Runners up:

Comme des Garcons
Tao
Aquascutum
Gilles Deacon

I really despise Jacobs, :-(

I agree about Lanvin - it was absolutely terrible. What was Alber thinking? Take a look at Gilles Deacon collection - that's what Lanvin should have been.

I like the new leadership at Ungaro and the direction they are going.

1. Costume National - Amory Blaine embodied so perfectly, F. Scott would be proud!
2. Ann Dem - Bringing out Patti Smith ON THE CATWALK?!
3. Karl Lagerfeld - Great show, look forward to seeing how it transitions to everyday wear.
4. Dior Homme - What a surprise! I find myself watching it over and over again despite initial feelings of mediocrity
5. Ralph Lauren - He's back and although his show wasn't far above the best, it shows so much PROMISE!

Biggest Disappointment: CLOAK! What in the world happened here?! Last few seasons I wanted every piece now I doubt I even want one.
