French American

I could be wrong but this really looks like a French take on American classics. If you click on the photo to enlarge it, notice this is another young guy wearing a tie bar. I smell a trend.

nice pose, I guess.....

how do we know he's wearing a tie bar? are we to have x-ray vision?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

I do not know what you smoke, but I want some of it. This guy looks like a guy in BD shirt and tie with a B-3 Sheepskin Bomber Jacket.
I am French and American, so keep the ridiculous prejudice fashionista BS for yourself. Merci

Just stumbled on your blog--what great work you have! Love the candid shots and you have great commentary on men's fashion. I am really enjoying it!

First of all I am not given you any of my smoke(margaritas actually)
and secondly it is my blog so I can make any crazy comment I want. (Sorry, that's the margarita talking)

Besides why is it bad that I think it might be French American? I think it is great, so get off my ass! ( Sorry, margaritas talking again)

I know he is wear ing a tie bar b/c if you click on the picture you can see it.

This guy is French, not American at all; he's the manager of the RL Paris store.

Also, that's not a tie bar, it's a saftey pin.

You should have gotten a full shot to capture the croc loafers he was wearing.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (11:33 PM) :

That is exactly my point, this gentleman is putting a French twist on American classics. I was not trying to imply what specific nationality he was.

Even if it is a safety pin it has been a while since i have seen anything like that on young cool guys.

sartorialist. i read you obsessively. you seem to have some negative feedback today. that's ridiculous. you are doing the internet a service with your site. love your beautiful photos, and your detailed information. i have never been jealous of men's fashion until now...

I want a jacket like that, but in black. Man, that's one rockin' biker jacket.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 AM) :

Sartorialist I too was bored by mens fashion until you showed me the way. Thank you!

Blogger ek said ... (10:28 AM) :

Yeah, I think that may indeed be from RL, a largish safety-pin looking thing in sterling silver (plated?). I bought one after seeing it on a mannequin last year. Everyone asks why. I like it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:11 PM) :

One of the best looks I've seen!
Thank you, Sartorialist for showing such fabulous people! Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 PM) :

it's actually called a pin-bar. if it is a trend, we have jussara lee to thank. she was doing custom shirts with pin-bars for men and women six seasons ago. with round collars, tab collars, playing with cuffs, etc. you would love it! like bowie said, it's no use being more than 20 minutes ahead of your time!

kudos on the margaritas!

Mr. Sartorialist!
Could you help me with this,
I'm hoping to find some kind of "De battre mon coeur s´est arrêté" sensibility. With leather jackets ties and white shirts, to create the look well described as a "french take on an american classic".
The difference perhaps being that I want the french take on the more punk leather jacket look. I want the Romain Duris look in "De battre..", but maybe a little more overwrought (for lack of a better word, god... )

This is a great look, but not seen much. Possibly because of how difficult it can be to love the French. As for me however, I have nothing but love. And being European, I will probably end up interpreting american culture somehow anyway, so why not do it with a charming french accent?

i'm french and i can say french guy arent as good as him; the look is too perfect, he must be british.
