14th St. - Dress Over Jeans

It has been a slow and incredibly painful experiment to watch but I think some girls are finally getting how to wear a dress over jeans. It never seems to work in the summer, so maybe it is just a layering thing to be done in Fall/Winter.

I should have asked this girl how influenced she was by the recent Marc Jacobs show or if a little guy with longish brown hair and new giant glasses had been stalking her right up until fashion week.

She has a pretty smile but the outfit gives the look of a Bag Lady on the Streets of San Francisco!

If she is a SF bag lady then I will trade you our NYC bag ladies anytime.

Dress over jeans never quite looks right, and I don't think she's got it, either.

She looks great!

And, it would be fun to know where she got all the elements of her outfit. I love the coat and the red big-neck sweater topping it.

'Course, it helps that she's so young and has such a sweet smile.

I agree, she looks pretty good, but I can't help feeling that she'd look better if she just took the dress off and left the jeans and black coat.

She's got the right waifish look for the dress over jeans, but I don't see that she is pulling it off any better than most who try.

I generally hate this trend, but I agree that she does it better than most. I can look at her without wailing, "Why? For the love of God, WHYYYYY?"

Dress over jeans can look amazing, but I think her dress is too long & everything is too baggy to be "stylish". OTOH she's so cute she could wear anything really. Plus it doesn't look like she cares too much what we think, which goes a long way towards pulling it off.

her dress is from urban outfitters. I got the long striped tunic.

i love dresses over jeans! and i love her dress. she's cute. I would wear it with the blue converse sneakers too.

oooh her vest is from urbun outfitters too. here it is:

and her dress:

unrelated but everyone should check out the urbanoutfitters shoe sales rack. great deals on cute wedges that work with vintage outfits.

I love how she's holding an extra hat, the exact replica of the one she's wearing but in white. That's so cute.

Anonymous p. said ... (7:58 AM) :

actually - she's holding gloves.

She's cute, but dress-over-jeans looks silly. Either garment would suffice.

Ive still never seen anyone pull this off, nor for that matter, ever heard a guy praise the look.

Blogger F.A. said ... (11:34 AM) :

oy, this is so urban outfitters.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:45 AM) :

I'm a guy and I think it's cute

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:47 PM) :

dress over jeans is like wearing socks and sandals.

ICK!

Ladies... please don't!

Blogger Sara said ... (6:27 PM) :

I think dress-over-jeans is just overkill. A dress, or jeans, but certainly not both.

Anonymous тәαςαп said ... (3:37 AM) :

I think that dress over jeans only works if the jeans are Skinnies and the dress is short (anything below the knee and it looks like a hobo). Jackets should never be worn with this look, unless it is a short, tailored one.
The chick in the pic should loose the turtle neck and coat and hem the dress.
