The Italian Version Of Casual Friday

Comments on "The Italian Version Of Casual Friday"

I'm not an expert, but I think his tie is hanging a little too short?

What is the proper length in which they tie should fall? I always thought the end should hang just above the belt line?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 AM) :

That outfit looks like a uniform. Where's his nametag?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 AM) :

casual friday. hairpiece optional.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM) :

He is looking more Asian than Italian.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:24 AM) :

i like the trousers, but agree that the tie is too short and wide.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:55 AM) :

Really like how the jacket fits with brown trousers, in my opinion this suit needs a different tie.

Your blog rocks.
Greetings from Italy!

put a razor cutting bowler on his head... hey wait! That old 007 flick "Goldfinger", right?
Short ties, working buttonholes, tight armholes...c'mon let's move on already. Let's see some personality, not the new Au Bar generation.

gentlemen, if we want to respect the canons of men's elegance, then at least
1. the tie must end at the belt;
2. the pant waist must be at the height of the middle button on a 3B coat;
3. off the rack this man made a mistake; m-t-m his tailor made an even worse one.
If you're Thom Browne all this doesn't apply.

The length of the arms of hus shirts are a bit too short. Some cuffs visable (an inch is good) gives a better look.

The length of the tie:
Waaay too short is "better"/"dandier" than too short (if you get my drift).

it is apparent that most of these comments come from individuals who are like spectators at an aquarium.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 PM) :

very cool look

to the poster with the aquarium remark: and you thought you were doing what when you decided to enter this blog?

"The Italian Version Of Casual Fiday"

what does that mean?
is this guy italian?
is he wearing italian?
which part of italy?
what do you know of italy?
have you ever been to italy?

i have no problem with the man in the photo, but i fail to see the correlation to the title???

who's eyes are you seeing italy through??

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (5:34 PM) :

ok, previous poster, are we getting a little touchy?

I meant it as a joke, the thought that even on a "casual Friday" Italians would still be very well dressed.

I guess if you have to explain it.....

BTW
he is wearing Italian and works at Domenico Vacca

great humor Sartoralist! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 AM) :

that's just the point.

italians don't on the majority all go around "very well dressed", at least not by this standard -on friday or any other day.

you seem a little touchy on the other hand whenever your comments are challenged.

no offense to the gentleman, by his provenience seems more from doormanland..

why not ask domenico himself?

i am italian and i believe i know what the sartorialist meant with this picture.
for us navy blue blazer grey or brown pants blue shirt brown shoes and tie or not tie means a less formal way of getting dress. the point is that for italians casual froday does not mean white snikers jeans and polo shirt. we do not go dressed like that at the office on friday. we still like to have our blazer our blue shirt and our brown hand made loafers. in order to appreciate this look you do not need be italian. this guys looks pretty sharp to me and it looks like he knows how to put stuff toghether. if he showed up in my town in italy dressed like this i would be impressed and happy to see that our style is traveling abroad. fyi you guys are getting to much serious about the lenght of the ties yes the buckle rule exists but in italy we like to play with ...rules because since everybody admire the way we dress we like to interpret the rules our way so sometime we like to wear our ties short sometimes long but believe me when we do that we are perfectly aware of the rules. sometime you need to break the rules in order to be your unique self (see gianni agnelli look, so many tmes against the rules but still extrimely stylish)

His jacket sleeves are too long and wide and the shoulders are "noisy", but for the rest: great sprezzatura!

Blogger Edmont Dantes said ... (8:17 PM) :

The tie people! The tie!

By the way, the tip of the tie should be right over the belt buckle, sligthly covering it with the tip.
