I Always Wore You Close To My Heart
When I wore you with a tie you made me look respectable.
When I wore you with jeans you made me look nonchalant.
When I wore you with holes in the sleeve you made me look rebellious.
Now the end is near, we both know it.
If you were a tee shirt it would be easy.
I would shred you and wash the car with you, but you deserve better than that.
Instead I will continue to wear you until my wife can no longer take it.
Like all of my old underwear, she will steal you away in the night and take you to a better place.
Until then, remember, I always wore you close to my heart.

couldn't agree more with anonymous...but as a wife I know where my duty lies.
Shine your shoes with it !
Ah, now that's true Subway Poetry. William Carlos Williams couldn't have said it better.
I'm new to your blog, so I've been reading all the archives. My husband has a very similar favorite shirt that wore out at the elbow & had a hard time saying goodbye.
btw, I'm loving your site. From a small town girl in Ohio who doesn't get to travel much anymore, your website has saved me.
Favorite fashion movie: Great Expectations (1998)
Your shirt is like my chanel ballerinas..one of them is distroied but i keep wearing them as they are my favourite../
my mom likes to do that with my sneakers, but what can i say, i'm an incoming college freshman at UC santa cruz no less, what's wrong with a little tatter and tear? the other morning i thought she threw away my pink keds which are fraying in the creases where my toes bend and i was SO ANGRY !!
turns out she just put them in the garage (:
I miss my old cardigan with the holes on the elbows. Women can be so cruel sometimes.

S short sleeve shirt is the only option..I'm amazed you didn't think of it..
Last week I ruined a beautiful J.Crew button down shirt because of a nasty ink stain on a cuff. It's now a beautiful short sleeves shirt...

I'm sorry you had to let it go. Unless there are many holes elsewhere, why not take it to a tailor and make it into short sleeves next time. There are affordable tailors in Chinatown, and other places.
