"The New Odd Couple" Abercrombie Moves To Savile Row

In Women's Wear Daily today.

"Abercrombie & Fitch will make its European debut with a bang on Savile Row.

Industry sources here say the American retailer will move into the Jil Sander flagship at 7 Burlington Gardens, on the corner of Savile Row."

Maybe it is my generation but I relate everything to TV. Doesn't this sound like a setup for a TV Sitcom?

Is John Cleese really that busy, couldn't he do a show as the stuff but down-on-his-luck tailor that is forced to rent a room to the slacker American manager of the new Abercrombie played by Skeet Ullrich.

I'd watch.

Maybe Tara Reid is the ditzy daughter of Cleese that can't stop drooling over Skeet. Ok, I'm calling NBC right now, they need to make up for Couples and The Office (American version) and this is their chance.

I don't WANT A&F over here in London. I was in the NYC 5th Ave store a couple of days ago, looking for a tee for my (younger, more muscular) brother, and it was an appalling shopping experience.

Pounding, bad, cheesy house music; so dark that people were walking into each other; and staff who are obviously employed by a body fascist with an Aryan fixation. The clothes are just expensive Gap too.

Awful awful awful.

it will certainly make for interesting clash of characters.

The store is AWESOME!! The music is BEYOND AWESOME. The workers are all beautiful, starting from the first floor then going up. I dont know why people would hate it. People are just jealous. Why waste your time making such useless comments....they are not gonna make a change. The people that are hired are ABERCROMBIE-people that fit and look the clothes. NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL..no orangy makeup and no fake nails...nothing fake! I love that store and I hate when I go in there and everyone complains...first of all why are u in there in the first place? why bother making stupid comments? The store is not gonna change because one or even a million people dont like it because face it theres billions of people that do. Si instead of fuckinn complaining sit on the computer and purchase things on the internet instead of not enjoying the experience.

I agree with the above comment. I think Abercrombie has the right to hire whomeever they want..and beautiful girls and sexy guys work...hey it makes money. Sex sells guys..and they do it in a more fashionable way. The music is so0o great ...it would suck if it were like prada...Ive been in that store on 5th AVE while on a visit and some old people hated i and were furious and other older people (60 yrs old or even up) were dancing. So what makes your opinion important? Yea & ur right hot people are on the first floor and then it goes up...

Yeah, I agree with the above.
1) Why go in there if you don't like it?
2) So what if they are selective in their choice of staff - Hooters applicants have to have a special . . ahem . . endowment to be able to work there, and nobody complains about that, that's just the way it is. Get over it
I love Abercrombie, I just don't want them to open stores in England as everyone will be wearing it and it will be less unique. :( My two drawers of Abercrombie clothes will be mirrored throughout the nation.

Furthermore with respect to hiring beautiful people: they add to the aesthetic of the shop and abercrombie are well within their rights to choose staff that reflect the image they want to portray. I will say however that in my experience of A&F shops, hiring people exclusively on the basis of the looks leads to some serious inefficient and incompetent staff. They might be pretty, but most look at you vacantly if you ask something even as simple as "Where are your camis?".

Oh I agree with anonymous and the appalling shopping experience... this store is awful, the only reason I went in was because of the beautiful brown doors.. but I love the eye candy ...cute and dumb (in a good way)..I ending up yelling at the staff because they could not hear me because the music was so loud ..so I started doing sign language...it was hilarious... also when I was there three people tumbled over each other because it was so dark... but it seems to work ..gosh now this is a shopping experience ..you have to love it...did not buy anything because I hate looking like everyone else...I m no the cookie cutter boy type...

anyone no when it opens??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:12 AM) :

I'm desperately trying to get in touch with the press office of A&F that is organising the opening in London. Any help?
very many thanks

Hi,
I agree with the comment about it getting common.
I buy from Miami when I visit and love their t shirts, luckily I have some rare non obvious ones so people won't know who it is. But it's so annoying, hope it's expensive, am I a snob to not want it to become chav??
Not happy A & F gal

I agree with the comments about it getting common, I buy a lot from the US and luckily they're rare non obvious ones, but still it's so annoying. I love the brand but it'll go the same way as Von Dutch.

Am I a snob to not want it to become chav?

Lots of issues here; many not related to fashion. My first question is why would they want to be there? I am over 60 and live in Michigan so what do I know except that A&F has permeated the US fashion scene and probably single-handedly set back the way American males dress about 50 years. They are responsible for the horrible mis-match you often see on couples in their 30s and 40s. She looks great; he is dressed like a 17 year old. The problem comes with his 38 inch waist; it doesn't work with A&F. The wonderful thing about the UK is their sense of tradition; they invented it. Keep it up; remind your fellow Brits that A&F is for the under 21 set.
