Comments on "Lismore Hosiery...Lower East Side, New York"
Sorry, Scott. Lismore vacated last week. My wife was walking by as they were packing up. The building has been sold for condo development.
Guess what!
I just happened to be walking by the day they were moving out!
I have another post of really great photos of the inside of the store and all the little details.
I really lucked out to walk by that day!
Earlier this week we got a house-call from the owner, making a delivery that he had promised to my wife. It is a pity that the old-line customer service oriented stores are leaving, but a place like Lismore really was a destination shop - only partly supported by locals. I think the internet and outlets have hurt that kind of business. It is a lot easier to make a living selling your real-estate to condo developers.
Are you local to that area?
I agree that the internet and outlets probably hurt the business but so did not changing the window displays for twenty years. By the same token, that is what made the place so noticeable.
I'm not local to LES but I'm in the area alot, what a great place to shoot.
