I don't know what surprised me more, seeing someone under 70 palying bocce ball or seeing someone chic playing bocce ball.

I don't doubt it.

Bar Tabac on Smith Street in Boerum Hill -- the mediocre eaterie of the Bon Vivant set in Brooklyn -- has for several years set up a petanque court (the French bocce) in the middle of Smith Street on Bastille Day.

All the hipsters love it and mimic the genuine, ancient Italian bocce-ballers of Carroll Gardens just up the road.

Mr Magoo
Thanks for the heads up on the old school Italian bocce ballers of Carroll Gardens. I'm always looking for something new to shoot.

Bocce. Boulle. Petanque. Same, same. But way hip. And way fun. And no-one over 70 in my town even knows what it is. You can come over to my place anytime for a set.

in this pic they are playing the game of Petanque, pronounced "pay-tahnk"
It is a french game.
It is not the same as Bocce Ball.
Not to sound like a snob about it ,
Just to educate.....
They use different balls and a different court. They are as close to one another as soccer and american football.
THX!

Has anyone come across makers of a really beautiful set. I'm looking for a set to give as a gift.
