post a commentHave you ever seen any of Tony Curtis's movies? I found his suits to be beautifully fitted (slim everythings, jackets with skinny arms) especially in "Goodbye Charlie."
I love "Tallented Mr. Ripley" with all my soul. Jude Law's clothes are georgeous,the way he moves pure ellegance, his way of life a dream for every "bon vivant". I almost understand the hate of Ripley when he realices... He´ll never be like him.

How about The Great Gatsby?
The Talented Mr Ripley is a superb movie as is the other 'Ripley' movie with John Malkovich which is scarier but not as stylish. On the subject of Cary Grant best dressed movie surely it has to be that grey suit in North By Northwest which also has another stylish dresser James Mason, he of the voice.

The actual movie was just okay, but I watched it a few times for the style and clothes! Jude Law and Gwyneth just captured the whole era with their wardrobe and their demeanors.
my favorite jude law outfit in that movie was when they go to this wonderous patio to hear a jazz orchestra and dickie is wearing a crisp white shirt, i think linen khaki pants, a wicker hat, and the most gorgeous deep cobalt silk jacket. the fabric made it look deliberately pilly. since this post is 3 years old and only you, scott, could be reading this, do you know what to call that type of fabric? i've been searching for it for 2 years. granted i'm 17 and have a fe wmore years of searching but i'd appreciate any help i can get from someone with your expertise on italian fashion.
Gwyneth's rich blue silk or velvet cape/opera coat with the creamy tan lining, the hood collar fastens in a heart shape with the lining showing.
I want to be her, just for that item, despite everything bad that happens to her in the film.
But instead i settle for wearing glasses just like Tom's in the picture. Only i'm a 19 year old girl.

I never thought of it that way, but I think you're on to something. Both are great movies. You have to give the edge to Grant and Hepburn though. Especially Cary Grant. No one does it like him anymore.
Passport Foodie
Wouldn't that be sad, though? I mean, I love the movie, I love the clothes, I love the actors (Cate Blanchett MUCH more than Gwyneth Paltro). But since the movie take place in the 1950's, it would mena that "our generation" has advanced in fashion by only 15 years from when the Philadelphia Story was shot... Not that our current fashion is that amazing. Trust me, as a European on the US west coast i feel like a fish out of water. But to regress into the 50's is not really a solution, nor is it really indicative of our generation.
Some great style in that movie. Really should have been talked about more for fashion.
