Is Robert Burke the Most influential Man in American Menswear?
As Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman Robert Burke has reestablished the Bergdorf Men's Store as the most exciting, unique and directional men's store in America.
I mean really, it takes a special store to make Hickey Freeman cool again!!
Bergdorf has also become a leading champion of young menswear designers like Thom Browne and Adam Kimmel.
Most importantly Mr. Burke has created a "Bergdorf Look". By combining by such diverse labels as Woolrich, Brunello Cucinelli, Etro, and Hickey .often in one look, Bergdorf makes a clear statement on what they believe are the most important items of the season. By reaching across such a wide product range Bergdorf heads the "wish list" of many of today's top brands and labels.
Don't even get me started on the Bergdorf Goodman Magazine. The editorialish story Free Association shot by Tim Walker is my favorite fashion story this season and it is a catalog!!

Nice to see some items on style with a twist!
very sharp, this is how you should dress when your older
Well, if we're going to give accolades to "The Most Influential Man in American Menswear" then perhaps we should also consider the source?
After all, it was Peter Rizzo, the former President of Bergdorf Goodman, who brought in Woolrich, Brunello Cucinelli, Etro, Hickey... and Robert Burke! (We know he has a keen nose for talent).
Mr. Rizzo's blend of style and business sense pulled Bergdorf Goodman --the store, men's and women's alike-- out of the dustbin to make it the crown jewel of American retail today. Perhaps not unexpected for someone who spent over 20 years under the tutelage of Fred Pressman, an American retail grand master himself.
He is dressed well, but too "safe[ly]" - no tiny risk anywhere to distinguish himself as an individual. I don't care for the glasses - I don't think they suit the shape of his head.
Nice blog and the nice post. The fashion and style cannot be copied. A design may be great for the person A but not for the person B. The intellectual persons select the design and color of the dress according to their own personality, climate and enviroment where they live.
thanks.

The tie too long.
The suit perfect
As a woman, I would like to add that I found much more inspiration in the men's section of the BG catalogue than in the women's. The textures & layers are so compelling
Don't be suprised. Catalogs can have some great stuff!
Young designers need help so it's good he's doing his bit.
It means that you can still smart when you are old :-)
