Vintage Photos

This is my dad and his dance partner, probably in early seventies in Cracow, Poland.

He used to be the modern ballet dancer for a few years.
It was an amazing time to do the sort of things. It was the time of creative exploration.

Wow! This has to be one of my favourite of all the vintage photos - it is so full of movement & I love how neither of them are looking at the camera but are completely caught up in the dancing!

my mum was in the drama club when she was younger and I would have pictures of her in all sort of costumes and there's even one where she cross-dressed and was a sailor. It's hard to imagine our parents doing that sort of things, but then again, they were young once before, just like us!

Poland was a hotbed for all sorts of creativity in the 1970s...you have to remember that communism was still in full swing and there were restrictions on the arts, which were considered subversive..it was Poland that gave us blessed John Paul !!, now a saint for our times.

What I was meaning writing " considering political situation those days in Cracow" was communist system, which was official system in Poland up to 1989, so like MB wrote - there were many restrictions and oppressions, but young people always have power to smile and change world :)

WOW

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 PM) :

There's a photo shoot with Edie Sedgwick done for Vogue... it's probably 1966, she's wearing a very funky Betsy Johnson two-piece creation consisting of a tiny belted skirt and a tiny top, all long legs and bony hips and pixie cut, and this pic just reminds me so much of that Edie photo. Fabulous! And I love the expressiveness and freedom in the man's movement. You can just feel the energy of Krakow in the political milieu of the 70's! Great shot!

Blogger Divali said ... (3:15 PM) :

This photo has totally captivated me and has stayed in my mind ever since you put it up.Such freedom of expression and arty energy, I love it. I wonder what music they are dancing to.
