Comments on "On the Street.....27th St., New York"
cool, love the lipstick
i really had to pause at this one.
I initially thought new age goth but I have a feeling that the overwhelming amount of vampire movies had some sort of influence. I love the bermuda shorts! Karl Lagerfeld needs to see this!

I like what he's wearing but the lipstick is a distraction. I'm
ok with the plum color but he applied too much!
wow, awesome

AMAZING !!! ;)

Brave man :)
I wish i could see his shoes...
Portrait of the Vampire as a Young Man?
-- Michael, NYC
I love the mix of the shorts with the blazer. Very interesting subject. The harness is a really unexpected detail!
www.thegirlinthecheckscarf.com
I'm taken by the look yet the lipstick just is too much. Love the harness incorporated into a tie.
on another level, sartorial avant-garde
Looks are cool but sometimes deceiving. It's funny how people are quick to say it's awesome, when actually, it's your shot and angle that are awesome, instead of the looks. Personal thought.
Black lipstick on such a pure face? Poor choice. The leather harness, get the concept, but then again, why not mix it up with something soft?
Vest and shirt are decent, nothing more.
Shorts are random black hipster shorts.
Not personal to the guy, but when we talk about the sartorialism here, it's not a long story.
Thoughts?
This is a really original mashup! S&M breastplate worn as tie with white shirt and suit jacket. Suit pants turned into shorts. Beautiful Monty Clift hairstyle with goth lipstick. I don't see this turning up in the chain stores soon so he should have achieved his objective.
love his jacket
and his shorts
is that velvet?
I thought his bib necklace was a tie. Its a cool interpretation.
love that leather collar/necklase!!
sharp look
successfully ghoulish.

Well............. It is a statement. I imagine he was living in some super-repressed mid-western town until recently and is really ENJOYING NYC!!!!!!!
I agree with you Emmanuel. Sometimes the art of this blog stems from the photographer and not the attention-seeking subject. However, I've got to say that the majority of the subjects have got a real sense of style and are not "making a statement".
Reminiscent of Gary Numan.
such a fierce look. fantastic though.
xx, http://wordbyjessie.com/
bondage leather accessories are something i need to delve into.

wow. hostel look
creepy.
I wish everyone who commented on this site wasn't so gushy over everything. Sure, your shots are great (truly!), but the styles ... not always quite so much.
It strikes me an an "emperor's new clothes' type of scenario-everyone seems to be worried if they don't LOVE everything you post they might be considered (gasp!) uncool... the most heinous sin of the 21st century.
--Just my take on it. I love your site, but the comments are so predictable (for the most part).
I think the lipstick is great but the whole look is a little too "Pinochio" for my taste. That being said, I appreciate his originality.
wow. what a man. love him.
http://heatherheartsfashion.blogspot.com/
Dig this look and the leather strap piece. The dark lipstick is an interesting touch, Smooches!
i don't know about the lipstick... a little over the edge for me, but the rest is thought provoking...
http://fixyourfacemakeup.blogspot.com/
Avant Garde artist, definitely.
Certainly photograph-worthy. I live near San Francisco so it wouldn't surprise me to see this "look" turn up on the street and maybe even in the stores. The S&M collar is an interesting touch. However the fashion "gender-blending" trend is not my favorite.
Too predictable. Little boy shorts and jacket, so old English school. Black lipstick, boring. Leather piece would be more interesting peeking out from underneath the shirt.
klarion the witchboy lives!
one can only the hope that the shoes do the rest of this ensemble justice.
Thom Browne in extremis.
i love the
simple effect of the lipstick.
strange but I like!

AMAZINGGGG love this beast!!! go boy!
www.shervinsworld.com
Nice photo but I'm not feeling the shorts with the jacket. Really don't know what to say about the lipstick either.
gothically chic?, daringly different?
yup, definetly different, but I dig it!
xoxo,

AMAZING is right!
wow craziness... love the s&m look mixed with goth and preppy styles... interesting indeed... i also like his matching ring- i wonder what shoes he's wearing!
I really like the clean lines on the suit: it falls very well on him (though I am not sure how good the cut really is: always hard to tell in a pic).
The SM accessory is "a" style. Probably not mine! Nice goth make up.
http://davidikus.blogspot.com/
The use of the harness might set off cool variations I look forward to seeing around. Agree about the occasional pack-mentality "gushiness" described above. It's not as though the blog owner gets too little well-deserved praise, and the photos can indeed be discussed separately from the way his subjects are dressing. And then the overlap between those two strands can get even more interesting.
Whatever look he was going for,I believe he achieved it! Great look. Free Shipping at www.copperetiquette.com
How very 80s London - Human League, etc.
I think the shorts are wrong, though
I like that he is wearing a traditional blazer jacket! It brings the rest of his otherwise eccentric outfit to life.
theBohmerian
This is so... so *_*' I guess! hehe btw honest, I don't know what to think... :)

I guess no one realized he was coming from the McQueen exhibit at the MET.
AC/DC inspiration?

awesome!
love him, love this
Some nice clean lines there...
Just a Silhouette
Eddie Munster grew up to be a cute goth!
Love this shot. I would hire this young man in an instant
Just wish I could see his shoes.
Excellent New Romantic Goth groove with a steampunky twist--the shorts have an Edwardian schoolboy feel, and in this context, the bit of visible harness looks more baroque than fetish.
I agree that the art is in the composition of the photo and not the young man's style, which just seems a little self-conscious and "artfully" put together instead of a natural look for him.
Amazing look !! He's f... cool !!!
Adjila
The bondage cage around his chest makes me nervous. His jacket is really nice. I think the lipstick lacks subtlety.
wow
really daring!!

love the neck piece!
He doesn't look particularly happy or proud to be wearing that, though perhaps that's the point.
OH MY GOD
that leather thing is so fucking fantastic
Im constantly trying to think of different ways i can integrate leather into what i wear
i am so for this.
The lips make it a little over the top for me though....
But damn, that shirt and strappy thing...
genius.
my heart just skipped a beat. love
100% not my style. 100% his style and that's what makes it interesting. He's way more intriguing to me than everyone who wears the latest fashion "uniform".
Whatever everyone thinks of the subject, we can probably all agree the photography is top-notch.
His face expression with that massive amount of lipstic made me think of a kind of Alexander McQueen's black version make-up. Just at first sight. I would have loved his style if he hadn't used it and with a different hairstyle. Maybe something a bit more natural. It seems as if it were a VERY studied look. The shot is great though.
I lvoe the shirt and the lipstick, cool!
http://facehunter.blogspot.com/
not everything original is particularly fashionable, in my opinion. while the overall product shows considerable effort (too much so?) it clashes more than complements. there are some interesting and certainly photography-worthy elements and as usual the photography is brilliant.
Great structure! The harness is so cool :)
i like the lipstick, black!! so original outfit <3
I don't like it... :(
So theatrical! Great photo! XOXO, www.NatalyasCloset.com
his mother would be so proud
great shot, it is so strange to see lipstick on a man's lips

BLACK LIPS, i likelikelike...
I think the point of taking pictures is to capture something eye catching, something that makes a statement. I don't love this look, but if I had seen him on the street I would have taken a picture too. It's art, and in order to be appreciated, it doesn't have to be "loved". I also think people are too gushy
Fierce! and different, I love it.
I agree that the lipstick detracts and distracts from an otherwise beautiful outfit.
Outfit is nice but not fan at all of the "manstick"

No looks too contrived to be considered naturally stylish
Not my style but I admire the way every element is mixed. Looks amazing.
There seems to be a strong reaction to the lipstick BUT I have to wonder if he hadn't worn it if anyone would have even taken notice. Particurlaiy of the harness which is risque but also, surprisingly converstive, due to the basic palate.
All he is missing is a leash!!! dangerous outfit!!
This makes me smile. I love him.
Cheers!
--Megan//The Martian Tide
I don't care about the lipstick colour like everyone here, but I wish the coat colour matched the shorts at least somewhat.
Anyway, my biggest issue is that this seems very contrived- I wonder what he looks like on any other day.
i have that lipstick color but didn't know how to pull it off
did a great job here :)
pinklemonincrystal.blogspot.com
interesting look. I think the black shorts, something that I cannot stand with dark blue, work because of the leather necklace/tie thing.
Reminds me of edward scissor hands!
Usually when you post something from NYC, even if it looks new and original, I can at least place the people into context of a neighborhood or some familiarity. This looks completely different from what I'm used to seeing and I've lived here over 10 years now. The elements are familiar, but the way it's put together is something else. The facial expression really makes it.

Little Richie all grown up... bring some of that style back to Boise this summer!
Cool and interesting. Creative. Interesting class of youth and classic.
The robin's egg blue wall, the dark suit and lipstick...it's almost like something from another era in a foreign country. Portugal, maybe?
www.thestyley.com
Angus Young meets David Bowie ? Anyway it is fun
sometimes it's best to just say no.
He looks like one of those politicians caught up in some S&M sex scandal. Or like Karl Lagerfields take on it rather.
Why can't my hair ever turn out like his?
It's so perfect. How do people do it? It still baffles me.
I am really interested in what YOU have to say about this? I think it is incredibly contrived.
Don't tell Ziggy Stardust's love child finally showed up?
Looks like he is a sweet and innocent guy beneath it all. Sort of looks like he is trying very hard to pull of a lot of looks at once. So in that sense it seems slightly contrived. I bet he is a big softie under that lipstick and leather! It shows! (and Scott, Great photography skills as usual.)
non.
An interesting photo, but more costume than fashion.
very cool
i do like this. v.much.especially the bracers...and ring
He's letting his Freak Flag fly. Love the color of the wall in the background and the yellow to the right of the photo.
i'm curious about what type of footwear he mixed with the above.
SO michael alig.
Sorry, don't like this at all.
This is one naughty school boy.
www.jrocomedy.blogspot.com
how brave! but stylish
so hardcore.so avant-garde,like a moving editorial.
Oh my god - this is fresh!
I really love this shirt ... this emo-goth-sado emergent style!!
www.coolneeded.com
He looks great. Love the harness instead of a tie. Love the look on his face too.
Gary Numan (80's pop/techno star currently touring again) would be pleased as punch to see this contemporary interpretation of his trail blazing look.
Bernadette
I'm a little confused. People are calling this look "contrived," yet if Anna Dello Russo stuck a coffee table on her head and draped herself in fairy lights, many commenters would swoon. (Yes, you would--how many of you called the infamous Extraordinarily Rude Stage-Blocking Look-At-Me Headpiece "fabulous"?) What, precisely, is the difference her looks and this young man's, which I find far more stylish, fresh, and interesting? That's a serious question. And no, some variant of "ADR is just a goddess" does not qualify as an answer.
Wow wow wow...

One person's "contrived" is another person's "brilliant fashion statement". Such are the inconsistencies of human nature and the susceptibility of people to be swayed by the rich and famous. I just think that this young man gets a big kick out of finding a way to express himself through his attire. Good for him.
I totally sat next to him in math in high school. This is a triumphant day for me.
There's something vaguely German about him...
oh my god!!
www.lacoquetadeolivetta.blogspot.com
I found the shorts to be more unexpected than the dark lips. Did anyone else find that as they scrolled down to see the rest of thh image?
love the mix of a suit with the leather harness. they both are a type of fetish wear.
I like your decision not to show the shoes. Keeps me guessing. Reminds me a tiny bit of a German child circa WWII.
Ludwig II rides again!
I'm awestruck! Awesome look, too much lip stuff.
do i detect a hint of dominatrix?
like a runway model shot backstage
... love the idea this guy was walking around like this - so cool looking!
style+music:
what are you wearing, who are you listening to?
This is more than amazing.
How Annie Lennox!
phab-u-lous. this is goth/dominatrix gone all too right.
FANTASTIC!
Perfectly normal, perfectly healthy.
Originality is one thing, but accompanying it with style is another.
there needs to be a sense of effortlessness, and this isn't achieved here.
I still see any semblance of the goth look is not accepted by the masses as per what i'm reading in the previous comments. No one will ever get it. I love how he pulled this off without looking like he tried too hard and especially when the neo-goth look has been getting so much hate lately.
