Comments on "On the Street....Easter in Harlem, New York"
This looks so effortless !
http://myheadandwardrobe.blogspot.com/
Excellent. Just excellent. His disaffected manner puts this outfit over the top!!
impeccable!
unfussy and elegant. love the bowler.
No one dresses so dignified as this gentleman in these neighborhoods anymore. The style is gone and assumed to be more custom of upper classes. So not true!
Happy Easter to this gentleman, indeed!

Absolutly astonishing!! what an atittude!!
awesome.
I love outfits where there's full follow-through from head to toe, wonderful loafers too!
He's so elegant! Great shot!

This is how it should be done. The perfect gent.
Oh wow. This is a great shot. Really it is. Wonderful, ~ xoxo
So elegant!!!

so smart of you to know that Harlem would be a good spot for Easter Sunday. Spot on!
I wore a hat yesterday...but no one does hats like New York does. No one!
He looks so fabulous and chic!

Wow... was this picture taken in 2011?!
So pretty, so charming!
Have a great week!

Elegant, dignified and stoic; this gentleman has stories to tell for those fortunate enough to make his acquaintance. I'd ask him if he was at Minton's Playhouse when Thelonious Monk was at the piano.
I was just in Harlem yesterday at the Studio Museum and while I was in the neighborhood, I definitely saw street fashion happen. Great photo; very cool, very old school Harlem. ~from Soleil

He's so chic! I love his outfit

brilliant…marvelous.
sweet! i dressed my boys in black and white for easter too. it's so crisp.
he truly pulls off the white tie on white shirt... mpaybe it's the white handkerchief?
www.gingerfashionmonsters.blogspot.com
Totally "turned out." He could just as easily be in Paris or Florence. The pin stripes and wide lapels are great and the white tie is over the top.
I didnt even notice the white tie at first glance! brilliant
I bet he's never owned a pair of jeans .
love it.
He is fab and he knows it!
http://fixyourfacemakeup.blogspot.com
Love the contrast of the black suit with a white tie and shirt.
A hat just puts it all together with elegance.
I like this outfit!!!!!!
XOXO!

So much swagger. So much class.
The white tie is SO. GOOD.

Love the shot as much as the suit!
Crisp & effortless
I'd like to know if he was dressed for a specific occasion or does he just go around looking like this all the time. He looks fab! VERY SPIFFY!

Totally awesome! It makes me think of the days of Gene Kelly and all that beautiful dancing.
I love his style. So sharp!
SHARP!!!! Loving the white on white shirt/tie combo.
@Vanessa @ ProjectZen, I'm so offended by your comment.
You clearly don't spend time in "these" neighborhoods. If you did, you'd know how unusual this style of dress is.
If you do spend time in "these" neighborhoods and still make a comment like this, then you must be walking through quickly with your eyes closed.
How sharp is he? I love how unperturbed he is by having his photo taken. I think this style looks particularly age appropriate. Fabulous!
so dapper, i love the whole look attitude and all...you have a way of photographing the soul as well as the attire. Great shot!

A sharp dressed gentleman from head to toe. I like this look very much!
you need more pictures from neighborhood people in harlem, refreshing post
Do you know what makes this outfit? The sleeve length. Somehow, if they were shorter and revealed cuffs and links, it would seem contrived or too design-y. This way it seems more natural and accessible. Also, the shined shoes and pressed pant are marks of someone who takes care of what they have. Happy Easter!
Elegant and stern.
I love this suit!
http://fashiondoesntexist.blogspot.com/
What a gorgeous portrait of this man. The pose with that cigarette leaving thoughts fly in the smoke, the eyes looking to oneside -somewhere we don't see- maybe seeking for new hopes, the shoes pointing to the other side... just stunning.
I love it
Love how his look harks back to old, jazzy Harlem. Great style!
This gent is the walking (or sitting) personification of "dapper" and "elegant."
to Vanessa @ Project Zen--
You may want to rethink making sweeping assertions and generalizations about "these" neighborhoods (and in general). They make you look ill-informed and thoughtless at best...
Such a candid photo! XOXO, www.NatalyasCloset.com
Wow!!

just so keeeeeeeeewl. And the bowler rocks, wouldn't know what to do without mine :)
cool attitude!!
STYLE !!!!!!!!
He looks so classy. What an epic photo. Somehow all of your photos are. Love it.
Lots of love from Norway

There is something eternally regal about a man with a sharp hat.
OMG...this is the king of cool. Old school at it's finest! From the cigarette to the white on white. Not a detail is missed!
Scott -- don't know how you do it, but the composition of this shot is (like so many others of yours) is spot-on.
black on black on black (hat, suit, shoes, bench, fence) and white on white on white (shirt, tie, square).
you should be proud. proud like this fine gentleman.
Jg.
quelle classe!
effortless style..xx meenal
so elegant :)
I love his nonchalance about being photographed. He reminds me of my grandad; always has a sharp suit pressed and ready for whatever the occasion.
Yes! Still killin' it Uptown with immaculate Old School style.
one of my fave in a while!
this captures so much: artistically, sartorially, culturally, historically ... a truly great photo
lovely

Thanks for finally traveling uptown to my neighborhood! I hope you'll spend more time in Harlem and Morningside Heights--there are some great outfits going on here!

The second picture is... amazing! Im without words!
I love the bowler. I've contemplated buying one on multiple occasions and haven't done it. I just don't think I'll have a suitable event to wear it to.
Fabulous!
he looks content!
http://heelsandinspiration.blogspot.com
simple with class
This man and my dad would've been contemporaries. I think he looks swell. My dad would've teased him relentlessly about trying to attract the ladies, what with the hat and the white tie.
simple, effortless, and classy all at the same time
Cool look... And nice hat.
Cheers,

Class, Depth, Weight, REAL FOTO!
love this!!!

He looks great. Love the derby and the large lapels.
Everything in tis picture is black, brown or white. Notice the mobile on the bench. Nice shot.
A bit somber, but the hat just makes it! I'm loving rounded hats lately.
His ease, seasoned critical gaze, elegant style, seen-it-all supreme confidence could just as easily been a shot from front row Pitti U'omo. Joining him, of course, would be Lino, Ricci bros, Laipo and all the other usual suspect cool cat statesmen of style.
exquisite tonal and textural qualities Scott. Glorious get.
Thank you,
Annabella
sooo handsome! i love seeing the older gentlemen in this blog always looking so sharp! makes me wanna be an older lady each time so i could date em! anywho, i love this photograph, he's so sharp- i love his bowler hat, his pocket square, the way he's sitting, the cigarette, and his cell phone right next to him! stunning, i also love the setting- great contrast! beautiful picture!
Old school cool - right down to the cigarette. Love it.
Hi, love this photo, didn't understand the comments about people being offended by Vanessa @ project zen. Wasn't she saying that no one dresses like this anymore?
Ohh, he's so effortlessly man-chic.
http://izzenxoxo.blogspot.com/
What STYLE! Impeccable from the clothes to the posture. A wonderful photo.
pure elegance!
http://artlydiamond.blogspot.com/
this guy is awesome.
i love that it's an outdoor shot with no "contrasting" colors (like green grass or blue sky). black bench, black fence, black suit.
Why isn't my grandpa like this? (Except for the cigarette)
My favorite part is his tie :)
AHH! This shot is amazinggggggg! I love that his black matches throughout, so it doesn't matter that he has different texture with his suit, socks, bowler, and shoes. I also like that the lighting gives his white tie/shirt/kerchief a pinkish tint. The only thing I don't dig is the glasses/rings. I don't know why, but they seem to detract from the rest for me.
Also he looks weirdly like a thinner version of an English teacher at my school...
Love!!! Makes me miss my grandfather :)
Enjoying a great holiday with a great style
Love this picture and the other ones shot in Harlem. I enjoy your pictures most when they depart from the typical shots of the predictable, perfectly-on-trend people who work in the fashion industry.
I love it! He looks absolutely cool, although I bet he's got his eye on a lady chatting away with her girlfriends. He's probably wondering when to make his move.
Rebirth of cool...
I always wonder who can pull off a bowler hat without it looking costume-like or ironic. This guy achieves it I think.
nice :) dapper gentleman. Dressed to the nines and with a hat too!
Chic smoker. I gave up smoking 6 days ago, this is hard to see. Hahaha.
Saludos,
www.eljovendario.blogspot.com
It's simply a white and black colour combination. But he's made it look sophisticated.

Very this gentleman has such a stylish look :)
Great picture!

How utterly fabulous! So dapper and debonaire.
Oh my, impeccable and timeless elegance at its best: perfect.
PS and: nice hat!
http://www.isthisitmodelsreview.com/
such a joy to see such pride in appearance.
I loved this whole series! And this photo in particular! Thank you so much!
Excellent.
Pure brilliance!!!
Love seeing the pictures of people that may not necessarily know who you are, adds a certain authenticity. Good picture.
To Vanessa at Project Zen i say, please look at this 3-photo series of Easter in Harlem. I hope that you realize how narrow minded your comment is. "these neighborhoods", "no one", "upper class"....
Dignity, style and character are not limited to class and or neighborhoods. Maybe take a stroll in one of "these neighborhoods" and open your eyes, but more importantly your mind....
he's chillin' and he knows that his look is put together. to him, the only people surprised by this are those who don't know. he also looks to have come of age when people took better poses in photographs.
while a dress shoe vs a loafer could have been nice he looks sharp and he looks like he's having a nice day looking nice.
I love his casualness in pose and ease, mixed with his very sharp suit with white shirt, tie and handkerchief. From his expression it looks like he's seen a few things in his life. Interesting man.

Such a gentleman. So much class.
I love that photo and the series Easter in Harlem...
Love the classic black and white combo!

So elegant and cool
Magnifico!.. charm & style!
he reminds me of my soon to be 90 year old granddaddy!
and he is dressed very much as expected for sunday services
love
He makes a bowler hat look good. Great style.
This Picture should be shown to all
those young men who seem to lose
to have lost their belts. Pull it
together and they to could look
Dapper as this GENTLEMAN!
He is so smooth!! need to lose
the cigarette will add more years
to his life and he can continue
Live Longe and Look Well!
so dapper! A throw when a man dressed like a gentleman..
I would love to take an Easter stroll with this fine gentleman. Love the white tie and the hat - icing on the cake.
Cool. The epitome of cool. Generally I'm not a big fan of black suits or slip ons w/ a suit and tie combo, but this man has pulled it off perfectly. We all know smoking is unhealthy, yet the cigarette just goes well w/ his distinguished look. The whole look captures an era. Bravo!
I viewed the most recent photos, but this was the one that stopped me in my tracks. His body language and the overall composition of the photo are so evocative. The best photos often make one ask questions...and I love the subtle mystery of this very dapper man on a bench.
It doesnt get any better than this. Understated and classy, yet stylish.
Now this is the way we rock Easter Sunday in an East coast city!
iconic.

Very distinguished!
Just, wow!!
Nice. Very interesting portrait, and a very cool suit.
Dapper and at ease - that's some serious style.
It would be a rather boring outfit if it wasn't for that white tie. Such a small detail makes all the difference...
Possibly the best photo you've taken...
So good and solid! A way to rock the bowler.
Lovely, just lovely!
Fantastic. This is high art photography.
When was the last time you saw someone wear a bowler for real! Clearly a man used to dressing with style.
I love it! A real gentleman
One of my favorite photos!
Really looks like a great gentleman.

Possibly my favourite picture ever, amazing!
This is beautiful, love the frame of the glasses on his face, as a tiny detail. Overall, just looks so good!
I live in NYC and often frequent Harlem.. no one ever dressed like this over there anymore. I love this man!
Eleganterrimo!
Charme não é pra qualquer um.
I couldn't imagine seeing anyone dress like this where I come from. This is the most beautiful thing I have seen in a while. I wish more people dressed like this!
I seriously adore your work Sartorialist. Bravo.
perfection !!!!!!!
